Generally dams are designed to withstand a pretty substantial earthquake. And they get checked regularly for changes in alignment etc. Some have automated devices that use laser measurements etc. I know very little to nothing about Bagnell however.

Mojorig, I have always heard about lake spawns and river spawners, any idea how successful lake spawners are?

You made me curious as I sit here awaiting the well repair guy to show up so I released my Google foo. Wind turbines appear to very tough where high wind is involved, they have a sensor that will cut out the generator when wind speed hits whatever the level is set at, say 55mph. It will then begin to feather the blade angle so they don't spin. Several have even gone through hurricanes and gone back on line as soon as wind speeds dropped back within limits. Some didn't survive, seems the Chinese made ones in particular. A direct hit from a EF5 tornado has higher wind speeds, but a much smaller footprint, so a big tornado could carve a path through a big wind farm might take out some of them but not all. Pretry cool to me, had never really thought about it before.

I am so confused now. Somehow the windmills cause white bass to cross with hybrids and make hybrid hybrids, solar panels are causing the floods, and as a reward some has to eat white castle food that Fishing Wrench is carrying in his man purse?? I am gonna strive to be more like Dutch.

Well the good news is one of my big chest freezers has been defrosted. The bad news is that it was not intentional. Went over to get something out for supper tomorrow night and hmmmm, this stuff is partly thawed, well CRAP. this is why I have 2 big chest freezers, one is now very full if it quits well I am gonna be reduced to eating hay. The one that quit had a fair amount of the recent half a hog and all of my wife's dead deers, plus the hamburger from the half beef, all my summer sausage, and my supply of fish fillets. Now the older.freezer is VERY full, even threw out a few things. I think something electrical happened to one leg of my service yesterday. Well was fine in morning, and the low pressure cutoff tripped before noon, requiring a trip home to reset it. The newer freezer must not have liked it, the slightly older one didn't seem to mind and they are both plugged into the same outlet. So looks like I have saved everything but there are no baskets left in them, I needed every bit of space, and it is very randomly scattered wherever I could find space for it. Now to see if I can find a repair guy or if being unplugged and rattled around a bit will bring it back to life. I am not optimistic on that.

I wish I had a truck load of the BS that has been shoveled around by all sides, I wouldn't be out buying compost.

When it comes to pollution there is no question that humans in general are the worst offender. Yes I know that volcanos can and do put out huge volumes of ash etc, however I don't believe the put out large volumes of TCE's or dioxin etc. However as humans we are unique in that we can recognize what is happening and take steps to reduce it or even reverse it in some places. It is our responsibility as a species and good stewards of our environment and planet to do what we can to take care of it and correct "sins of the past" as it were. Not all of which are equal, would I love to see a safe, reliable, and sufficient power source that produces zero pollution, and harms nary a single critter and it be affordable? Sure I would, who wouldnt, but until that comes about it is all going to be about what is feasible, economically, environmentally, politically and socially.

Recorded this morning, lake near he dam, 40 degrees, lots of stained water, releasing 3000 cfs, so lake is falling. Am ready to see it normal level or close and 55 degrees.

Between you guys and Tandem Fly posts I am gonna go nuts. STOP IT! This year doesnt bode well for having a lot of time to do much fishing, and I am having withdrawals already. Usually by now I am knee deep just before dark getting my casts in. Seriously keep posting pics, my phone is pretty resistant to my tears.

Poor Dutch is still thinking, geez fellers I just made a wee little joke. Hopefully he is thinking that while fishing, and I bet he is. Well except for the thinking about this thread part.

Toward the end if th spawn and from about mid crappie spawn for a month or so, don't be afraid to throw crankbaits like shad raps or flicker shad up shallow and around windy points. At times they will absolutely kill them, and you will be amazed how shallow they can be. If water up in the bushes a bit, those gaps in the bushes are killer when crank just clears the bushes on the way out. Also keep a rod handy rigged with a swim bait, if you smiss a strike fire the swim bait right back in there. And you get bonus bass, catfish, drum etc.
-
LOL, I have a buddy like that, could take him to a place that if you fell in the crappie would eat you alive. We will catch maybe 7 or 8 and he thinks it's been a good trip. However he can occasionally catch a white bass, so I guess he is one up on Snagged from what I hear. 😅

A menagerie of circumstances prevented me from having my favorite corned beef, cabbage, taters, carrots and onions at home. Instead mom, grandson and I had some at a friend's house. That leaves me with a corned beef brisket in th fridge to do something with. I am contemplating putting it in the smoker for a couple hours of have hickory smoke before pitting it in the pot to finish cooking or maybe I want to.let it get up to temp in the smoker, don't know, would it need to get up to that magical 200 degrees inside lie a regular brisket?? I LOVE corned beef but have never smoked one before. And the cabbage etc. just keeps me from eating all the meat, keeping some for the rest of the family. Heck if left to my own devices I would put the veggies on a tray as smoke them a while too.

That may be true right now, but the price of electricity is not getting cheaper nor is the demand going down worldwide. When the cost of electricity and the cost to produce "greener" power meet, assuming it ever does the calculations will change. Reservoirs that provide drinking water are becoming more important as the cost of proving water rises as well. The price of a high worldwide population isn't cheap.

As the old saying goes, ain't no free lunches. Every upgrade in technology comes with some cost. Much of what is happening now is the early stages of a major technology shift, electrical power generation, storage and usage, solar, wind, tidal, hydro electric etc. No one thinks that internal combustion engine are going away in the next 10 years, that just isn't gonna happen. But if nobody ever embraced new technology and changes, we would still be rowing boats and using horses for everything. Here is a question for the smarter than me folks, if Dyson can make a fan without blades, why can't a wind generator b designed with out blades, understand it wouldn't be as efficient but would certain calm down the groups that say wind farms are killing all the wildlife.

Just curious, where is your dock at, almost certainly I have been on it at some point.

Ameren wishes they could do that and at times request additional water in drought times. They have actually asked that one I believe and been told NO. The lakes are balanced in level by what they are able to hold and how much they are currently holding. There are also regulation points on the Missouri and Mississippi that restrict how much water can be passed. Years with a heavy snow pack which creates heavy releases from places like Gavin Point, or floods which dump a lot of water into the MO or MS river can create a restriction and we in this part of the state wouldn't even know it was happening.

Who are "they". Dams are removed when needed or when there is a reason such as it is graveled full, if you are waiting to see a hydropower dam removed or a large Midwest reservoir dam removed I suspect you will be waiting a long time. What happens to relatively small dams, especially in the Northwest is a whole different kettle of fish, so to speak.
-
The big question is how/when it will be enforced. I don't envy the job of the agents having to tell umpteen folks that "nope" that is a largemouth". I certainly don't fish for bass, but should a spot of appropriate size bite I wouldn't have a problem eating it. I seriously doubt that it will have any effect on the population dynamics in the lake.
-
Sadly I can tell you that seldom are the inspections done at "normal". Would be nice but just doesn't happen often. Do try to avoid extremely high levels though. Realistically lake level and normal levels seldom have anything to do with each other come dock inspection time.

Like I said I know nothing of electric vehicles, and don't plan to own one for a while. Honestly if the prices weren't so high the vast majority of what I do could be covered by a electric pickup. Heck if it had a solar panel on it, it could charge up while I fish.
-
Barring a flood if you can't find some turkeys, crappie, morels and or white bass at the end of April you aren't trying very hard. Seems to me that the river is best in the fall, it can be just silly good at times like this past fall was. Spring can be good but always fighting a cold front, ra in and muddy water or something in spring.
-
I know less than nothing about electric cars, but always wondered why you couldn't have what I would call gas over electric, basically a hybrid. If charge drops too low either have it start automatically or get out and pull start a small Honda type generator, and charge it up. Maybe I have just described 15 models already in production, I simply don't know.
-
Those 12 inchers aren't bad eating, but we would play with them for a while, then go catch a limit of crappie.
-
FYI they are coming back pretty good now. Not as think as they once we're but much better than the "bad years".
