  1. Are you making pies out of Hydrangeas or whatever that is?
  2. Even the BPS repair guys gave up on my old Shimano Stradic. The only time I have had binding issues other than worn plumb out was if the whole reel took a prolonged dunk in the creek. Otherwise haven't had any issues with them.
  3. I know who would say, how to tolerate those. Although a feller can tolerate a lot for good pie.
  4. It can be a very popular color. Brown and purple is a good combo.😆
  5. Now that would be a hoot for sure.
  6. I have been doing a little flower planting, since I can't do anything with my garden, it almost drues out enough to work and then another rain. Roses planted, moss roses planted, ready to re do strawberry bed once they produce and send out runners. Collapsed frame is over run with leaf lettuce and spinach, right now I am wishing for one of my dearly departed groundhogs to mow it down. Haven't seen any of them this spring, somehow last fall their holes all got a big dose of mothballs and then filled in.
  7. Becoming a Jayhawk.
  8. I have a buddy that thinks that is one of the greatest sports ever. Does love fun.
  9. That's what I do, if it works I would fish with strips of my old underwear.
  10. Trying to understand the mental workings of a critter with a brain the size of a peanut is a losing game. I doubt if they even know themselves sometimes why they eat things like bright pink floating worms, or a chartreuse spinner bait. Sometimes they just want it.
  11. Outflow has been dropped to minimum, and the lake is creeping up now. Truman lake level has triggered a regulatory requirement that Pomme cannot release into it.
  12. Wrench, on that point I mostly agree. In the old days sems like the circles always ended in a spin in place, which was usually bad for the occupants of the boat that were in the water, boat would come back around and the resulting damage from the prop strikes on the victims were ghastly to say the least. Can remember setting and watching a boat spin at full throttle on Smithville back in about 1987, Water Patrol simply kept folks back until it finally ran out of gas 3 hrs later. That one resulted in one fatality and one severe injury. Doesn't seem to happen that much anymore, I assume hydraulic steering prevents that torque from snapping the boat into a spin when control is lost?
  13. Love the colors on the goggler.
  14. If you wouldn't mind leaving the torrential rain out of your trip in July, that would be great. Glad you got some fishing done.

    What's Cooking?

I love a big bowl of plain old pasketti. Sometimes straight out of the jar, sometimes with lots of added seasoning, and always lots of garlic. Right now such a dish would n make me cry, allergies and meds have stolen my sense of taste again. But in my mind I can smell and taste it Ness. mmmmmmm
  16. Gumboot, that is how the system is designed to work. Heavy rains raise the rivers, the dam shut down outflow to prevent exacerbating the flooding below the dams. Water stacks up in the lakes and when downstream conditions allow outflow us again started. How much depends on several factors such as %of flood storage being utilized by the impounded water, river conditions all the way down stream to Missour River and sometimes beyond. The level of Truman also plays into it for Pomme, there is a balance between the two that in part determines how much outflow can be released.
  17. Oneshot, you may be the only person I have ever heard say "I like the looks of Oklahoma". Maybe I just haven't seen enough of it.
  18. I think that agents like that are more the rule than the exception. You might not wade through a buffet of ticks and poison ivy, but then again that isn't your job. Believe me the agents get a lot of pressure to be viable and out doing their job. It may take an agent an hour to walk and check 3 fishermen, however that is their job. I have fished LOZ quite a few times and have yet to see an agent there, they may be hitting places that I am not, I don't know, I also avid it on weekends. I also usually see at least one dock owner happily filling a basket with every crappie they catch regardless of size.
  19. When I go outside my little home range it's simply for a small adventure with my buddies. I have hauled my boat to Kirksville in early may to catch crappie and camp out. Pointing out every access road that ked to Pomme, Truman, and LOZ that we could stop at and catch a limit of crappie and eat supper at home. But it's the trip with buddies that make the trip, have had several that disn't pan out for crappie, mushrooms, or turkeys but still had a dang good time. We camp in a barn on this old farmers place and end up helping him do oddjobs, might be replacing a broken front spindle on his old tractor, building a trailer or whatever odd little things he might need. Often just as much fun as the hunting and fishing.
  20. Hybrids I know little about. I always key in on crappie. KK island is always a good spot for hybrids or walleye. What I know as bean cove I think k is the long skinny cove at the lower left of the yellow circle. However any of those coves can be good for crappie. We went to loz today, North wind, cold front it was tough. 3 of us had 32 and we had to earn them.
  21. Yep, have called a few down to the water while fishing.
  22. You won't need to go that far up, and it would be white knuckle run from Fairfield. Just upstream from the 82 bridge is a big cove that goes beast and south, we always called it bean cove. It is usually good.
  23. Dutch, I feel exactly the same about black and chartreuse crappie jigs, everbody uses them so i almost refuse, but sometimes when the need is great, then great sacrifices must be made.

    What's Cooking?

Somewhat bored today so am expiramenting. Went through fridge to see what was there, hmm, sliced venison loin from last night, some rice, roasted cauliflower, OK. Chopped and diced it all up and into a big bowl, hmm now what, garlic, green onions, cavenders seasoning, eggs, crushed crackers, eggs and cheese, why not. Think maybe the rice was a bad choice as it doesn't really want to hold together, but made some patties and have them sizzling in a cast iron skillet, smells good, hoping they will bind together and have a hillbilly version of has patties, if not will be a skillet of hash like stuff. Well it wasn't bad, not something I would have been happy to serve, well unless it was on a creek bank and there you just get what's served. It was a bit dry and under seasoned, definitely could have used some bolder seasoning, but it I had broke out the slap yo mama, then mom couldn't have eaten it. They did hold together and the cast iron skillet gave them a wonderful crust. Yard dog is now enjoying the extra parts.
  25. Except if you want to buy a donkey for $625 you can shoot arrows through it if you want. Heck you can eat it if you want. I have no problem with someone who wants to pay $625 or $625,000 for a particular fish to stock their Private lake with. Unlikely anyone with that kind of dough is gonna invite me to fish for free, and I aint gonna pay to do it.
