  1. I'm going to call it. Someone will now suit up in a big foot outfit and start throwing rocks. Then someone will shoot him out of fear. The Ozark citizens will look like crazies across the nation when both parties are probably not from the area.
  2. I went to Meramec Springs, but it was free ladies day so I turned around and went to my old favorite BSC. I'm trying to learn how to fish with a tenkara rod. A couple of weeks ago, I had my best day ever at Montauk with it. However, BSC is so small and thick, and I wasn't sure how a eleven or thirteen foot rod would work. I took it in, but had my trusty three weight in the backpack. I found the tenkara works very well mainly because the soft tip made bow and arrow casting a breeze, but you could stay back. On the way back down, I also found it was easier to swing a fly across a five foot wide creek. The long rod allowed me to stay way back, but controlling that small width was easier. Not including the a very rare day where the fish were literally jumping out of the creek and hit anything, this was my best nymph day. I fished the red gate up to the private land. I landed four or five and released a nice six incher. I lost probably an eight inch fish on my way back down swinging my first attempt at the Tenkara style fly. I had a knot gave out on me, but I knew it was weakened. However, I told myself it would be ok "for the size of fish here". Famous last words. All and all, I had a great day for that small section of the creek. I talked to a gent at the bridge, and he got skunked. LOL, was it the rod or stream section. Either way, I had not been there for many years. BCS really is not for everyone, but for me, a great creek and very pretty. Another fun item... I also started up again on tying. I made four flies to try out and caught fish on all four. #16 Prince Nymph #Harvest midge - found this fly on the Springfield club site: http://www.mtfa-springfield.org/resources/fly-tying-recipes-patterns/harvester-midge/. I didn't have the rusty color so I just used black and silver. The tier reported a hundred fish day with it. I'm curious with this on a 16 and the very small thread body, can it replace an 22 midge. My eyes are not getting younger. #Generic tenkara fly - 14 hook; grizzly hackle (oversized), red head, black dubbing body, and silver wire. It was sort of like this: https://www.fliesonline.co.uk/trout-flies/tenkara-flies/grizzly-oki-kebari/ style wise. The Mistake - LOL, I tied a harvest midge with holographic body and silver wire. However, I tried to add a touch of UV epoxy, but ended up covering the whole (small) body. However, it looked fishy so I kept it. It pulled out the first fish, but lost it to an underwater limb. I'm going to tie up some more. Sorry no pics, for me... it is still warm out. so I dehooked and released immediately. Tight lines

  4. Yes the ads suck, but the site is free. That is how they make money... besides selling your data.
  5. Is bathroom hole the "bathroom" down river from the parking lot below the last big curve?
  6. Due to multiple issues, I went trout fishing for the first time in five or six years. I decided it was time to get back on the horse and drove 3 hours to the Ozarks. I felt it was too hot for my favorite wild trout creeks so I went to Montauk. Channeling my deceased fishing partner and father, I had my best trout park day ever. I like to think he sent a fish or two my way. However it was bitter sweet using some of his gear... reminds me that he is both gone and with me. I also started Tenkara fishing this day (for trout). I ended up with a double digit day. My best three flies were a disco midge, yellow crackerback, and an parachute adams. I caught equal amounts on the crackerback on top and pulled under. I have to be honest... I wasn't expecting much from the tenkara rod, but it was deadly on this trip. I would even follow someone out of hole and catch a couple. I think it had to do with no drag and no fly line hitting the water. I ended up fishing from 10-6. It was better in the morning, but I caught fish all day. Tight lines all.
  7. I love Blue Springs Creek. It is a hard place to learn to fly fish with all the tight shots and spooky fish.
  8. Anyone fish the smaller ponds in the CA. I only really hear about the main two.
  9. Those are sick.
  10. Hey everyone... Sorry I was absent for a while. I'm a project manager, and I just had one of those years. It was so bad, I finally got a fishing kayak and never got it out. Anyway, on to a new project this year so I hope to be more active.
  11. Don't burn them. Run them through a mower and put over your garden. In the spring, pull off anything that didn't break down and put around your trees. First lots of nutrition for the soil and it will really draw in the worms. Just two cents.
  12. Awesome.
  13. HOG....
  14. Don't care who you are funny. He might have to take back the nice things he said about you.
  15. Before you get to excited, my best day is probably a normal day for most of you. I went out with one of the regulars here. We caught quite a few fish on a great Spring day. We tried a little of everything, but slow and on the bottom was what they really wanted. Here were some of my personal achievements - hey quit laughing. 1. First trip in a jet boat... I see why there is a love hate relationship. 2. Largest smallie, most smallie, largest goggle eye, most goggle eye. 3. Caught fish on my homemade lure. 4. Didn't get one on the fly. 5. I also caught the biggest limb of the day. Best part of the day was learning a ton about the differences between river and pond fish. I hope/will use this on some future trips this year.
  16. I'm going to try the a-kicker for smallmouth this weekend hopefully.
  17. On my way home today I saw a man die in front of me when he lost control of his motorcycle. He was in the expedite lanes and I was in the regular so I could not stop safely. Called it in of course, but confirmed what I thought when I got home. One moment he was probably enjoying a ride and next minute he was gone. I wish his family peace. Love hard gents. Life is precious. God speed to the unknown.
  18. All packages are in the mail.
  19. Zone 2 adds in the treble hook, which increases ones odds. I never fished a soft body for trout, just going on what I read. But I have had them swallow a worm that I was actively fishing.
  20. I disagree... 1. In general terms is provide areas for bait fisherman, lure fisherman, and fly slash spin/fly fisherman. One of the things I don't like about Meramec Springs is I'm fly fishing and someone sits down next to me and throws a worm on the bottom and tight lines. No one can drift the same hole. 2. Rubber and live bait cause the most deaths of returned fish because the fish is more likely to swallow the bait. By keeping rubber and live bait in one area, the park limits the damage to that area. I can't prove this, but I think spin/fly fisherman are also more likely to just catch and release like I do. So by zoning the areas, it actually improves my odds because there is less dead fish. 3. Trout become bait sensitive over time, just note the difference of the first hour of the day and the rest of the day. My controlling type of lures in each zone, one improves the trout's chances to avoid being caught.
  21. May I ask what fly you were using?
  22. Nick W... Is your street number 229 or 225?
  23. Flies separated. Self labeled envelopes in the mail. Buzz I didn't put yours in, not enough postage. Try to get the rest out tomorrow or Tuesday. NOTE:. If you have a small box be VERY careful when you pull out the large fly. The rest might stick to it.
  24. Hey team... Apologies, life got the best of me the last few days. I'm slightly behind, but working on it. Again apologies.
