  1. Some good looking fish, looks like you guys had a blast, thanks for the report.
  2. White is a beautiful river. Even when the fish aren't up to my expectations there are few things I enjoy more than swinging soft hackles to midging trout in a quiet back channel or working my way up a shoal that others consider find too difficult to navigate and having a mile of water to myself.
  3. Thanks for the pictures, those fish do have some fine color. On our 3 day trip to White River last month we found very few rainbows with color and even fewer fish of any size. I chalked it up as another put and take disappointment. Maybe later this winter we'll find some fish that have been in the river longer than two weeks.
  4. When I was young we caught a lot of Hellbenders in Maline creek where it flows through Ferguson.
  5. I hope so, thanks for the report.
  6. I spent last night hauling gear into the garage, sorting through tackle and getting my cold weather cloths organized. I get to eat two great meals with two great families tomorrow then three days on the river. I'm thankful, life is good.
  7. Please accept my condolences. I have often wondered how the end would come. Thank you for sharing your story.
  8. Nice deer. Opening morning I heard two types of reports coming from neighboring properties, single shots and rapid multiple shots. I assume the single reports were from responsable hunters taking a measured shot. What to you think the folks taking the multiple shots were Doing? Sunday about noon I took a long walk down a hollow that is seldom hunted. I found a blood trail that started and stopped without a trace beyond, related?
  9. This sums it up. In my experience whether I'm going to pull out the heavy rods has more to do with how hard the wind is blowing than anything. If I can't position the boat to fish big streamers effectively I would just as soon drift or wade fish. The other ingredients for success are water levels and sun light, or rather the lack of sun light. I have had several experiences fishing under a heavy overcast when the Browns seemed to be everywhere. As soon as the clouds broke they disappeared and we went back to catching stubby finned Bows.
  10. Fescue of the future.
  11. Interesting minnow. Is Needle Nose a local or common name? Does anyone have a positive ID?
  12. They only came up a couple of inches. It's gettng close to my Thanksgiving weekend trip I appreciate any and all reports. Good luck.
  13. Good questions. I might add, what is its life expectancy?
  14. Dam removal is a fascinating subject; Im looking forward to watching the film. A passionate argument could be made for the restoration of any river lost to reservoir construction. The decisions to remove some dams are easy. O'Shaughnessy, Glen Canyon and the four dams on the lower Snake River resulted in tragic loses and should have never been built; our nations wealth will increase when these are removed. All reservoirs have a limited life span; siltation, economic and environmental considerations should spell the end of some long before the structures are obsolete. With the exception of Powersite the fate and problem of what to do with our local dams will be the decision of our childrens, childrens.... As Powersite nears the end of its life span I suspect it will be replaced with another structure just to preserve the status quo.
  15. Fishing for stubby finned bows is pretty lame without shoals to navigate, branches to duck and a current that can knock you off your feet. I guess I'll do it once or twice a year but I would rather get skunked in a beautiful place than bag a limit standing on a sidewalk.
  16. When I was a kid folks would spend their Sundays in the back yard barbequing pork steaks, drinking beer and listening to Jack Buck. You could walk down the street and listen to the game as you passed from one house to the other.
  17. Baumgartner, the snot rocket, wins. It was a good game
  18. At our house we mute or pause through the commercials. J B is so irritating we often mute through the game. Silent baseball.
  19. I grew up fishing January Walbash Lake, I work about 15 minutes away. Think I'll stop by in a couple of weeks visit the home waters of my youth. Don't be fooled my media hype north county isn't so bad.
  20. Your so short you need to look up to see down.
  21. Awesome fish, great pictures and report.
  22. Ha ha, only thing I got off of plentyoffish was plentyoftrouble.
  23. Well it's offical now. Red fish are getting bumped from my long list of things I must do to the short list. Good report, thanks.
  24. I've seen a few feeding frenzies in October but no doubt mid summer is prime time. There are still some great reasons to fish and float in the fall. For me the biggest attraction is the lack of other boaters. My last two trips to jet boat central on the Meramec were great. 8-10 miles of river, no jet boats, no partiers, nobody. On the most recent trip the bass had moved out of much of the faster areas but the water was warm enough we had some great top water action. Yes we had to stop several times on the way back up to the ramp to clean leave from the intake but this was a small price to pay. This is turning into a month busy with non fishing obligations, if I had my way I would do an overnighter each weekend covering all the sections of the rivers that I'm forced to avoid all summer
  25. Action will be little less predictable and low clear water might make the fish a bit tougher than earlier in the season but I've had some great days floating the creek in October.
