  1. I just goes to show that it is nearly impossible to make broad generalizations about this river. I have waded the white at over 10,000 cfs and seen plenty of guide boats grind props through dead, dead low water. The trick it to paint a realistic, safe picture for those who don't visit often. For us who know the way around the white better than we know the way around our own house anything is possible.
  2. "Structural Engineering is the Art of molding materials we do not wholly understand into shapes we cannot precisely analyze, so as to withstand forces we cannot really assess, in such a way that the community at large has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance." James E. Amrhein, former executive director of the Masonry Institute of America.
  3. They look 19 ish, nice fish.
  4. If I didn't live 300 miles away.........
  5. I can't add anything to the wisdom above. What I can say is: go, don't let less than ideal conditions dampen your enthusiasm. With some effort and versatility the White is fishable in all but the worst conditions.
  6. Good for you, good browns are few and far between.
  7. I’ve seen the ruins many times, thanks for showing what was missing.

    Red Sox Win!

The ending was sad but overall it was a great season, We had team that was fun to watch and only two towns had an extra three weeks of baseball.
  9. The dude's lucky he didn't get his hand bit off.
  10. Sweet. Not the easiest time of the year to catch stream smallies but prime time for float trip.
  11. Yeah, I love to see the old pictures too. When I'm on the tail waters I often daydream and try to imagine what the river was like before.
  12. I switched to braid on my top water rod last summer for that very reason. First couple times I had a Sammy flying back at my face it scared the crap out of me. Back to mono, I'd just as soon loose one than piss away an hour performing surgery on myself.
  13. That looks like fun. Have you taken that boat out west? Looks perfect for Green River below Flaming Gorge.
  14. 1, Oregon cheese. 2, Oregon cheese with a pink eye.
  15. Great boat, good luck.
  16. Hahaha, we call that affliction boat azz.
  17. Yeah, that boat will be noisy, will grip rocks and the keel will make it hard to turn when on a river. It would be a good pond boat, a bargain too.
  18. Mark, While I don’t know enough to offer any advice I can tell you what we found about a week ago fishing a few miles below where your floating: Low clear water, it took long cast to keep from spooking them, most of the fish had moved out of the faster water, heads and tails of pools were better than the middle, the fish were all over soft plastics but they were just grabbing the tails, stick baits had a better hookup rate, mid day was better than early or late. The river was empty and the experience was first class. Mike,
  19. I like that version.
  20. I guess I missed that part about AFF being out of business. Or maybe wishful thinking. My boat has 14 years of hard use and plenty of battle scars. I'm caught between an upgrade to a new tricked out river boat and just patching and painting the Shawnee.
  21. I have been looking for their web site, no luck.
  22. Rumor is that the murky water has made fishing better.
