  1. A tale of two days. Thursday, fished 9 hours, from Old Hwy 86 to almost point 5. Weather was cloudy AM, cleared around noon, little to no wind. Caught 2 keepers and 2 shorts in 9 hours. Best keeper was a 19" smallie that just lunched on a crankbait. Why it was the only one willing I don't think I'll ever understand. I fished mainly main-lake stuff that day covering many locations that were very good to me last year at this time. Friday, fished from KC to Cow area with new-found friend, Dave, from SD. We were pre-fishing for the BBC midwest rally on Sat. Weather was cold, heavy overcast with occasional rain, and a strong norfer front that blew through mid-afternoon. The fish were on fire. The difference in their attitude from Thursday was simply amazing. Dave and I said the heck with the tournament and just pounded as many as we could. It was easy fishing, the kind of day that mid-winter dreams are made of. The majority came on cranks including the gal shown below. She went 23" and 6.56 lbs. Caught her almost at the back of a pocket with water temp showing 52. I'm very happy that we caught 'em on Friday as we struggled hard yesterday with the post-front conditions. We weighed 4 for 13.9 lbs, winning sack was 17.7. Thanks Dave for a couple of very enjoyable fishing days. Good luck returning to snow country.
  2. Heckuva day. Congrats!
  3. Lol Dave!

    OOPS!

I just learned how to delete an entire thread (my Cow Creek Area 3/14 report) and that was not my intent! I was trying to quote someone after backing out of a previous quote attempt and kept getting prompted with the previous quote (that may or may not be intelligible). Sorry. Can it be restored or is it gone to the bit bucket forever?
  5. Holy smokes. That is a beast of a spot!
  6. Sounds good! Had a great day today. Spent an enjoyable day on the water with Daryk and he caught twice the fish he did last year. Thanks to Jeff and all those that made this fun event possible!
  7. Thanks to Quill for the heads-up and a big thanks to Dave for the gift certificates!
  8. http://www.bassfan.com/docktalk_article/15357/chalk-talk:-ike-discusses-tough-times#.VuK3g_krLIU ... the “Ned Rig,” which he jokingly suggested should be renamed the “Ike Rig.” The gall of some people.
  9. Andy's Custom Bass Lures finesse jig.
  10. AMEN!
  11. Ditto, James.
  12. We'll be in Blue Eye on the 1st. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.
  13. As someone that is addicted to learning anything I can about the beloved finned critters and their habits, I am astounded with the info in this thread and the willingness of those that have shared it. I am a complete neophyte when it comes to fishing highland reservoirs, but, I think I have arrived at that early point on the learning curve where I can at least recognize quality information. Over a vast, dreary wasteland of interweb "info", this stuff stands out like a blinking red stop light at night in a one intersection town. FWIW, my thanks to Bill, Champ, and others that have so freely contributed.
  14. Great report Champ. Struggling with immense jealousy at the moment. I guess I need to stop reading these...
  15. I'm working on it. I'm expecting my Rosetta Stone Missourah to show up any day now.
  16. Lol. No problem Dave. We're a hardy breed. We'll be down for March and April. Counting the days... How 'bout you?
  17. Finesse probably means different things in different parts of the country. Deep weedline fishing is a major summertime locational pattern in our northern tier natural lakes. 8# test is as low as I can go with any confidence that I'll have a chance of getting a good fish out of the deep veggies especially cabbage and coontail. Doubly so if the lake unfortunately has zebes.
  18. Yeah, you're probably right. But, there isn't a fishing show on TV that isn't pushing something. And, there is a wide spectrum of how far they'll go to shove it in your face. I guess I find the product camera shots slightly easier to take than John Gillespie screaming "get the Frabill"!
  19. Count me in the Zona fan club. I admire his genuine gusto for catching fish and seeing others catch them, two things I am just as passionate about (well, close anyway). Plus, he has not yet turned the show into a fishing infomercial which I greatly appreciate. And, who can deny his almost single-handed advancement of the fishing lexicon? Come on now. How many caught a slaunch before Zona appeared on the scene and how many have caught one since?? I know I've caught several... I have to agree that the Table Rock show was a little light on the fishing info but I have to admit I was curious to see if either of his Italian Leprechauns were an apple from the same tree. It was a little hard to tell as both seemed a little camera-shy if not downright terrified to be on a fishing show with the Z Train. Feel free to take all this as worth a grain of salt as I am just another jacked, amphetamine-laced norfer. (thanks for the hearty laugh, Dave).
  20. Oh, right-o. Sorry.
  21. Hmm...possible OAF tournament grand prize?
