  1. I can totally understand that and don’t disagree. I have heard a lot of terrible sounds in the marsh from high dollar calls and low dollar calls. I’ve also killed birds with cheapies and very expensive calls. For those reading, remember this when hunting ducks: Location, location, location.
  2. I’ve called and killed plenty of ducks with cheap calls. I think all of mine are Buck Garner. My teal call might be a primos. Goose call is a Buck Garner too, but has been used considerably less. More about the person doing the calling than the call imo.

    What's Cooking?

Yes, mine too, that looks tasty. Yum-Yum!
  4. Pill #1 usually makes for a pretty fun hunt! Awesome!
  5. I haven’t been out. We have been out of town visiting family. I’m hoping that I can get out and find a deer before bow season ends. I’ve been so busy I haven’t been hunting all season. After that, I may spend some time trying to get after some trout. I might be able to get out on the lake sometime soon if I can convince my wife that I need to get out there some. Move heard that they’ve been eating the jerkbait. I prefer to throw the a-rig to the jerkbait though. I just don’t have the patience for the jerkbait and haven’t ever really had any success with it. Wintertime bass fishing is still a bit of a mystery to me. I haven’t done a lot of it and haven’t had a lot of success with it when I have gotten out.
  6. Here is the video of the winning fish being caught from the Fall 2018 Big Bass Bash.
  7. Sounds like a common tale from a local lemon merc that we hear about often around our parts.
  8. Uncle Josh’s definitely needs to be resurrected. They are hard to beat for effectiveness. I know they dry out and that is a drag, but dang they catch fish.
  9. Sees like there is a lot of wisdom in that statement.
  10. My dad will never live this one down. Back when I was a kid we would take a week long vacation to fish and play in the lake every year. My dad would always bass fish while my mom, brothers, and I would fish or play around in the boat. One evening my dad hooked someth8ng big and was going nuts because he was so excited. He kept yelling “get the dipnet, get the dipnet” he was sure he had a wall hanger bass. We all scrambled to get to the dipnet that was still in the storage box with the water skis. When we finally managed to get the net ready he had finally fought in the monster bass that turned out to be a large stick. Ever since then, any time we go fishing with mom in the boat she still hollers “get the dipnet” any time my dad even gets the idea that he is getting a decent bite. He’ll never live live it down. Lol
  11. And one of the best guys to help me when I need it too. 😉
  12. I love mine. A 1992 Champion 190sc. It handles the water as well as any other boat I’ve been in. My buddy’s 21’ bass cat doesn’t handle the Lake of the Ozarks waves as well as mine in my humble opinion. It fishes well and is an excellent rough water boat. I could probably fit over 100 rods in this boat if I wanted to. It has a ton of rod storage space. Not as many storage compartments as some of the other makes, but I like the extra floor space I get too. I honestly didnt know know how good of a boat I was getting when I bought it. I would 100% recommend.
  13. Definitely seems like they go off much easier than I would have expected. I’ve personally seen what I would call a proportionally more severe ticket given. Of course, it was much more minor and the penalty wasn’t as severe. However, I would argue that in proportion to the crime it was worse than what these guys are getting.
  14. No. Just the mom. I would lay lay a strong wager that I have seen the film more recently than anyone on this forum. My daughter and I watched it countless times in the past few months. Great film. Fantastic music. Cutting edge film in its day. I believe it was the sixth full length feature film made by Disney.
  15. Apparently he was sentenced to watch “Bambi” once a month. “Drip, drip, drop, little April showers.” Lol https://www.ksl.com/article/46450331/missouri-poacher-ordered-to-repeatedly-watch-bambi
  16. I have heard lots of reports that braid is great for use with spinning tackle when using a mono or flouro leader. I have considered trying it out on some of my spinning rods. the only thing I use grand for currently is A-rig fishing. I don’t really like it at all. I thought it would be really great for Carolina rig fishing and for other stuff too, but I really don’t like it at all. I like using flouro quite quite a bit. I’ve never tried any of the copoly lines. I use mono 99% of the time now. A big part of that decision for me is the use of black lights when night fishing. I use the fluorescent line that lights up under a black lite. I do feel like I get bit better with a more low-vis line though.
  17. I love fishing a lizard. I didn’t fish one much this year, but I usually do pretty stellar with one from mid-April through June.
  18. That is a darn good Pomme limit! Great day on the water for sure.
  19. Hunting sucked today. As I expected with the cold weather that rolled in over the past week, everything was froze up today. We found some ice that was breakable and broke a decent sized hole. The birds just didn’t fly today. Unless you were in one of about two or three spots, it was dead. You missed nothing but a hike, breaking some ice, sitting in the cold, and another hike. We saw quite a few bald eagles, some snow geese, a flock of swans up high and that's about it. No ducks. ☹️ Very tough hunting conditions up there right now.
  20. Awesome! Pretty neat to see an eagle do that. I’ve had them swoop on my decoys before, but never grab one. That is a pretty neat sight too. How are the ice ice conditions up there? I’m heading that way Monday. I finally got a quick draw after putting in every single day. I’ve been putting in every day and it’s been about 7 years since getting one. I’ve hated the quick draw since it’s inception. I used to have quite a bit of success in the poor line, but since quick draw takes so many spots it is no longer worth the drive to have such a high chance of being turned away. Also, all of my backup spots turned into everybody’s primary spots after quick draw began.
  21. After about 6-7 years of trying daily to get a quick draw at grand pass, I finally got one for Monday. Of course it will probably be froze over by then. Good luck to you guys at Fountain Grove this weekend.
  22. If you get livescope, we are gonna have to fish together so I can check that out. It looks awesome, but I know there is no way I’ll ever get one on my boat unless I hit the mega millions or something.
  23. Toyota makes a great vehicle. My problem with them is they are (to me) extremely uncomfortable to sit and ride in. My dad and brother have been driving them for about 15 years now and they both love them.
  24. Wow! That is incredible. Now I only want one more. Never gonna happen though.
  25. This could be a good discussion topic. I’m interested in this as well. I don't really like to throw a jerkbait a whole lot, so I prefer to start with a spinnerbait or a-rig. Then again, I’m not the guy to take winter fishing advice from. 🤔
