  1. I appreciate that offer Smallie. I'll keep it in mind.
  2. I'm currently using Cortland 444 on my TFO Pro 8' 4wt. I'm not getting the performance I want. I'm just not feeling it load and the action seems a bit fast. Can anyone suggest a line that I can replace that with this year that would suit this rod better? I was looking at the S.A. Mastery Headstart. Anyone have any opinions on that? I posted this on another forum, but got no responses yet.
  3. Wow...lots of divergence there. One of the reasons for considering it distance and being able to cast farther from shore. That's not so much an issue when floating/fishing. That said, my spinning combo certainly isn't high end and the line is just some Stren line. Do certain spinning reels give baitcasters a run for the money in terms of distance? I mean, would I be better off just upgrading the spinning reel and/or line?
  4. Beyond my fly fishing, I own two spinning combos. These are what I usually use for bass. My primary fishing is either bank fishing or from a canoe on Lake Springfield or local rivers. I don't have a real boat to go onto the big lakes with. What's everyone's opinion on whether or not I would benefit from purchasing a baitcasting combo, and if I did, what would be a good introductory, reasonably priced setup?
  5. Great job!!. Keep it up and in a few years you'll look back and wonder why you ever would do it in the first place. As time goes by it just becomes so foreign. And you feel much better.
  6. I sure do miss paper bags. I could pack a lot of groceries into one double paper bag. I hate the plastic ones. In giving up soda and most bottled drinks, I found I like my tap water (filtered) in a glass that I can re-use and it's healthier And a few years ago I switched to a safety razor. I get more mileage out of a 10-pack of double edged blades and they're cheaper. Closer shave too. I think things have changed some for the better, but some for the worse. It's called progress right, LOL??? There's something to be said about simplification in some areas. There's certainly things I wish we could go back to.
  7. Thank you Justin. That's a very nice way of stating the obvious.....I'm a cheap bastard!
  8. Man, I sold and delivered 100 boxes of those things for my kiddo this year. Wife's a leader so the living room gets filled with cases once a year. Sales were down a bit this year though. Their booths happened to fall on cold, crappy days, and it definitely affected it. I'm glad they do it. I'm glad they enjoy it. But I admit I won't miss it when it's over. And for what it's worth, Walmart brand fudge mint (thin mint knock offs) are a steal at $1.28 a bag. I've stocked up each grocery trip much to the family GS's chagrin.
  9. I've calendered it. I'll try to get there if nothing comes up. Wife might have to work that second shift, but I won't know for a week or so. I'd love to meet folks, pick their brains. Might even make a friend or two that I can con into fishing with me and teaching me more than my limited scope right now.
  10. Reading up on history it's pretty amazing how much of the "American Revolution" was actually something we would consider a terrorist insurrection by a small group of monied property owners if it happened today. It's true that a good portion of the colonists were apathetic and criitical of the patriots for ruining and disrupting their lives. I'm not sure I wouldn't have been. Especially having a wife and kids. I'd probably look at them as troublemakers myself. When you read some of the atrocities committed by both the British and the patriots, it's amazing we still celebrate it. Of course, it did bring about this great and wonderful country. So I believe it is something to celebrate. And I believe that this country will endure our current struggles. When I read up on history of other countries and other time periods, they are truly scary in terms of daily living and those folks survived. I suppose even at a lower income and struggling, we're all pretty lucky to be here in America. Generally, the water I drink is clean. I have enough food daily. Actually, more than enough. I am sheltered. I have clothing. I am cooled in summer and warm in winter. When I hurt, I'm usually able to obtain medicine that will cure it or at least relieve the pain. That makes me pretty blessed, I'd say. I've tried to use this Lenten season to re-order some priorities, pray more, and be more thankful in my prayers for the blessings I do have. It's easy to get into the doom and gloom when you look around. Our leaders sure don't help that. However, if we can hold it together, I think in the end we'll be okay. We have the means and the technology, and many have the will. That's a good start.
  11. Seriously....the article that is linked above was a paranoid, quasi-literate rant. It's not exactly what I'd call journalism. People with your type of rhetoric truly scare me. Like a late folk singer once said......... They said if you don't like to live this way Get outta here, go back to the U.S.A. He was talking about the South.....
  12. Checked it tonight. I was not able to edit colors, size, font, etc....Still able to do it in postings, but not on profile. Any ideas? Am I the only one having this issue?
  13. When I went to edit my signature today, the menu on top that allow you to edit color, font, etc... was not available to me and my signature was shown as coded. I ended up having to delete the whole thing because my edits came out jacked up. Any suggestions on this issue? The menu is available on postings.
  14. I suspect nothing will change until the corporate masters start to badger Congress to put more money into the hands of those who spend it at their businesses. After all, the wealthy aren't the ones who are shopping at Walmart, eating at Olive Garden, or shopping at lower end department stores. Nor do they usually stop at the Mom/Pop bars and convenience stores. These are the businesses that take the hit when the middle and lower class lose 2-3% or more of their income. That's their discretionary spending which will no longer be spent. These idiots are gonna end up destroying themselves from the insides because they truly can't see the problem. If they haven't learned anything from what's happened in Spain, Ireland, and Britain in the last several years when they experimented with austerity, then they never will. It's the same old "I've got mine, so the hell with you" attitude. Disgusting.
  15. Mine are usually for tying Tenkara flies DVD. But I like the chick in the ad. Kinda cute.
  16. Thank you for a well thought out reaction Feathers. To me it's not about whose side I'm on. I am on the side of law and due process. We saw none of that. Feather mentioned his experience in SoCal. Similarly, my experience living up near New York makes me wary of 'official reports' by cops. I've seen too much of what they can and will do. Often with impunity, as will likely be the case here.
  17. I have to say that after listening to the audio, this was the most disgusting display of police sanctioned murder since Waco. To intentionally set a fire with anyone in the building is tantamount to attempted murder in my book. Of course, they never intended to take him alive anyway. Just another day for the street gang in blue from LA.
  18. JW I suspect you're right but not a theorist. You can't introduce one element into an ecosystem without affecting all of it. Who knows where it will all lead, but if you're theory is correct, camping may beome a little more wild, LOL.
  19. My favorite rod is my Cortland Fairplay 5/6wt. Does that count? It's big enough to fling stuff a ways and slower than my TFO 4wt.
  20. Well... I agree with the need for different types of music. Especially some rap. Nothing would improve these fishing vids more than some bikini clad women popping their booties next to someone fly fishing. And....maybe switch it up to some heavy metal for when there's been a strike and the fight is on. I'd leave the driving in, but maybe feature cars that bounce like in the old rap videos. So much that can be done......LOL. Or.......we could just let those who enjoy them watch them, and if you dont, just avoid them. Kinda like the way I avoid many of the Table Rock posts because (A) I don't fish there and ( I don't have a boat to fish there. Of course, I guess I could just start complaining that there's so darn many of them and it's discourteous to the people who can't be there. That's about the same mentality..
  21. I wish I could RC. I'd love to meet some folks from the forum. Unfortunately, I have to work. Catch a few for me while you're there!
  22. Agree that zebra midges tend to be best. No larger than size 18. Size 20 and 22 are preferable. I usually fish a 2 fly rig with the midges about 18 inches apart to cover more of the water column. I'm all in on thingamabobbers, small. No palsas here because they don't adjust and quite frankly I sometimes lose sight of them. I've also done well at Bennett on cracklebacks (size 16 or 18) and buggers (black or olive, size 12 or 14). The most frustrating part of fishing is watching those next to you pull in fish after fish. Keep working at it. Some days you too get to be THAT GUY!
  23. Because it's their dadgum 2nd amendment right to own one and those darn liberals ain't gonna take it away!
  24. I wouldn't be opposed to any town that wants to make that part of their curriculum if it just to teach children to stay away and what to do, etc.. I'd be likely to scrutinize the NRA's curriculum or any other group's curriculum first. Not sure I would want to mandate it as a matter of law if it means the adoption of a particular group's program. Schools should be free to choose from other programs, or design their own.
  25. Here we go with the "media agenda" conspiracy again.......
