  1. Arrested for what? Maybe CDP I guess? Would have been really hard to prove that it was anything more than an accident and most likely the boater would have to take you to civil court if he wanted to recover any losses and even then it would be hard to prove anything. Not condoning doing anything like that, but sometimes jerks get what's coming to them. I've had the same problem even now in my little aluminum bass boat. Just a couple weeks ago I got cut off 3 times by tournament guys in the same day. I really make a point to fish hard behind those guys and make sure they know when I catch a fish. We had 3 boats do better than anyone in their club, including my wife and I It sucks that he was being a jerk like that, but he's not breaking any laws so there isn't much you can do like it I'm afraid.
  2. First tournament I ever won was on a green pumpkin trick worm on a shakyhead, still one of my favorite shakyhead worms.
  3. I use Locktite gel as well and put them together on the lake for the exact reason reason mentioned above. That Locktite dries good enough to fish with in about a minute anyways.
  4. I use the same basic rod as you do Champ, 6' 10" ML/XF spinning rod with 10lb Nanofil and a couple feet of 8lb fluoro leader. Never had a problem with it but if I was going to fish a little bigger hollow belly or a heavier head I could see the need for a casting rod.
  5. Ha! I know that's right. I fished a tournament at a local lake today and when my partner told someone I sold them for $1 apiece I got swarmed and sold every one I had in my tackle box in a couple minutes. Thought a couple guys were going to fight over the few 9/16oz ones I had with 7/0 mag worm hooks that I poured for dragging big worms in deep water. They're an awesome way to present a soft plastic and being able to customize the hook and head weight to the specific piece of plastic I want to put on them is a huge plus. I gave my partner a 1/4oz head with a 3/0 EWG Trokar and he was killing them dragging a 6" lizard on it. He was in love with it by the time we were done for the day and wanted to buy some. Had to explain to him that Trokars are just a touch more expensive than the Gamakatsu and VMC hooks I normally use on them.
  6. As long as you didn't set the hooks hard into wood or get it wedged real bad, I've been able to get them unsnagged 100% of the time by just either going past them like champ said, or getting straight over top of them and gently lifting and dropping like getting a jigging spoon unsnagged.
  7. Pretty spotted bass. There was a loon hanging around the ramp at Baxter last Friday. Didn't notice it until he chased my Keitech to the boat
  8. And here my buddies are giving me a hard time for charging them $1 a head for them!
  9. I was down there on Thursday and Friday and we caught a ton of short fish to 17 inchers on jerks and warts. Points and smaller pockets with about a 45* angle bank were best, even better if there was some timber. We fished around Shell Knob the first day, Baxter the next.
  10. Since I picked this mold up last fall it's become one of my favorite rigs to fish. I love being able to customize the head and hook to the bait/situation I'm fishing. The 3/8oz with a 4/0 VMC HD EWG hook is my favorite for a majority of stuff. I made some of the little 1/8 and 3/16 ounce sizes with 2/0 EWG Gammy's. Let me tell you, those little heads with a small beaver bait (I was using a pit boss jr) is one of the best looking craw imitations I've ever seen. The hinged action when you hop it off the bottom really looks like a craw trying to flip away from the fish. I caught several with that rig last Friday around Baxter but they were hitting a jerkbait way too good for me to fish it very long
  11. You can get much more expensive rat baits, like a Nezumma XL. Those will set you back at least $200 unless you find a good price on a used one. That bait would catch fish on Table Rock no doubt, and probably a lot more than most would think. I've never invested in a rat bait because I feel like I get pretty much the same thing with the MS Slammers, and I can say for sure that they catch fish on Table Rock Fishing those big baits isn't for everyone for sure, but anyone that's interested that hasn't tried it yet should check out the Southern Trout Eaters DVD. They fished the 12" Slammer and had no problems getting fish to come off bluff walls and slam the things.
  12. I bet guys complaining about price don't think twice about buying bags of GY senkos, grubs, or hula grubs that only last a fish or two and are 6-8 bucks a bag now. Pretty easy to spend that just on soft baits in a couple season whereas that rat could last the rest of your fishing lifetime and catch countless numbers of fish. At least that's how I justify myself spending that kind of money on 1 bait
  13. BPS cranking rod, either the 6' 6" M or MH with a BPS Pro Qualifier reel in the 5.2:1 ratio. Right now they're both on sale online, the rod for $60, the reel for $70.
  14. Is it possible you're looking for it by the wrong name? If it's the color in the picture you posted, that's green tomato. I don't know why it's called green tomato, but that's what it's listed as everywhere I found it. The series 5 is hard to find in that color for some reason, http://mondotackle.com/item/P007000180000230.html http://www.landbigfish.com/StrikeKing/Strike-King-Pro-Model-Crankbait.cfm In my search I found another, similar color, along with several other interesting color schemes in a version of the Series 5 aimed at walleye anglers. http://www.basspro.com/Strike-King-ProModel-Walleye-Crankbaits-Series-5/product/1310190651301/
  15. I'll be down there for it with my wife, son, sister in law, her husband/my good fishing buddy, and their daughter. Really looking forward to it. I know it won't be as blown up as the Classic was at Grand but I think it should be a good time.
  16. You use the same colors as with spinnerbaits? I'm headed down in a couple weeks, might have to tie a couple of my favorite Table Rock colors on some of my bladed jigs.
  17. I can unashamedly say that I have sight fished many a drum with the Ned when the opportunity presents itself. Nothing like a little Kansas redfish action on light tackle The bad ones are the ones that you don't get to see before they strike. A drum can fight a lot like a big smallie for the first few seconds of the fight sometimes.
  18. I'm always surprised that more 'eyes don't fall for the Ned. Until last year I'd never caught a single one on it, then I caught a 21" and 24" walleye a couple weeks apart on one. I hear you on not wanting to clean fish. I don't care much for eating fish and kind of get a kick out of the look of horror in other fishermen's eyes as I drop a keeper walleye or crappie back in the lake
  19. Almost all our lakes are pretty stained (<5' visibility), and plenty of fish fall for the Ned in those stained water lakes.
  20. Beautiful fish! That whites as tall as it is long! And that tail looks like it belongs on a fish 3 times it's size
  21. A good portion of them are some days, some days well over 50% of them are in excess of 15". I've caught dozens of smallies over 3 on them in KS, which is a solid fish around here. I've caught some really nice largemouth on them also. Yeah, I thought it was a typo when he sent that to me but he said it wasn't. They use a fish clicker to keep track, same way I did the year I decided to keep track. I can't remember the size breakdown he gave me but a lot of them were 8-13 inch spots and largemouth. I've never fished the lake they were on but I've heard plenty of reports of 100+ fish days with normal size gear so I'm sure it's possible. They were on Wilson State Lake near Buffalo, KS. I've never fished it but I've heard it's packed full of fish. After seeing that KDWPT sampled a nearly 4 pound spot out of there I will be making the drive at least once this year to check it out though.
  22. A couple years ago I decided to keep count of every bass I caught throughout the year. I had one day fishing for smallmouth during the summer that I boated north of 150 fish by myself. When I'd cross paths with other boats and they'd ask how I was doing, I didn't have to see their eyes rolling to know it was happening. The guy that taught me how to fish the Ned fishes with his wife a majority of the time and they had a day over 300 fish in just over 4 hours, more than 1.25 fish per minute. I know there's plenty of non-believers and skeptics out there still, but I'm fine with that. They can struggle through the post frontal, flat calm days while I'm hauling them in one after the other
  23. The Finesse ShadZ is a really good bait on a scrounger head also. That thin little tail just snakes all over the place during the retrieve. I've had good success with the back half of a FattyZ also. I think the faster tapering end makes them fall a little faster and spiral a little more on the fall. Stinks you can really only use one half of them that is like that but they still last forever like the ZinkerZ.
  24. I fish the Ned on Nanofil with about a 2 or 3 foot fluoro leader. The casting distance is amazing, hooksets and sensitivity are better, and I can see that bright white line very easily. I've fished it on 6lb fluoro and just couldn't get the same results out of it, but I know a lot of guys that use straight fluoro that do very well and some guys that use braid and a leader. Drop shot rod is certainly the way to go. I pour my own heads and use a 3/32 ounce 95% of the time even in water to about 25' when the wind allows it. Yes it takes half the day for it to hit the bottom (when the fish will let it) but IMO, that light head is what gives it the slow fall and hapless look that makes it almost impossible for the fish to resist at times.
  25. Another vote for the Ol' Monster. I like Watermelon candy and Plum apple.
