  1. Think he got bored and shot the cat before the deer ran by.
  2. I understand the time value of money, and MDC permit costs are cheap.Likely to remain cheap due to the 1/8 cent sales tax. No break even for a 25-30 year old ,IMO. They should send a donor letter if you buy a lifetime permit.Take it off your taxes if you can still itemize. The Insurance folks could calculate that so it is a win win for most but it is not.
  3. That idiot needs a walk of shame, wade out & walk home. Call me to help you tow that out. No thanks. Looks like it would have driven out if idiot kept it running. Water in the intake or to much back pressure in the exhaust will stall you.
  4. The UV stuff is pretty neat. You need to see how it looks under UV light...A $10 UV flashlight will do the trick. I hardly tie anymore...but the really ate up retired engineer type guys love that stuff. They take fine sharpies and write down the dubbing colors, z midge embroidery yarn colors in their fly boxes. When they get back they will replace anything they lost. Most of mine, live assorted in little clear chewing tobacco style boxes...Grab one, or two that look different and fish them. Usually works.
  5. Good for you! It’s been a couple years, but I’ve always enjoyed uncrowded fishing during deer season.
  6. We go camping on Thanksgiving weekend.
  7. I don’t tie flies much anymore but think about it some. Kapok would not mix well with tonight’s rib roast.
  8. Buddies used to fish with Gary years ago. Can probably get their bags of tri lobal Antron carpet fiber. Might have to buy them a meal and a drink or several. They like single malt whiskey.
  9. Not sure if my guides are still guiding. Yankee Jim, and Bear Trap Canyon are on my list. Usually booked out of Rivers Edge in Bozeman. Didn’t like them much, always over charged 20-50 bucks, for monkey dodo you never thought you bought. Liked the guides(Brian & Jen Grossenbacher), not that shop.
  10. Laker sent some special rare yarn years ago. I don’t think it works any better, but it is still special. Anybody have any kapok? Looks like I’m out.
  11. I rarely tie anymore. Might do 3-5 dozen a year. I only use a couple flies that I cant buy a mile away at Hargrove’s. Used to tie 100+ dozen a year. Still have big Plano boxes full of em.
  12. Rosevelt lodge in the NW Corner is a favorite spot. Cabin with a wood stove, no water in cabin. They have a restaurant & bar, but better to bring your own. Xanterra ran the park concessions and their food service sucks.
  13. Call me. Been many times.

Good smoke ring. Usually separate the point & flat but that looks like a brisket should. Great job!
  15. It would look a heck of allot better if it was a Tarpon. t
  16. Rented a pontoon boat and took the kids tubing on 20’+ high Bull Shoals this year. Figure what we have it is the new normal.
  17. Good deal for a kid IF they intend to stay here. No break even really. They should send you a charity letter because you definitely overpaid.
  18. MDC Lifetime permits are a bad value. You do not know what life will toss at you.

You better get cracking on that brisket. That's an overnight rub, and 10 hrs in the smoker, minimum. Costco Prime Brisket you chose well!

No Seth, I have not. Will pick some up and give it a shot.
  21. 1.5” ice, nothing flew. Busted a big hole through the ice for the next bunch. Still fun. Sportsman’s bar in Sumner is worth a revisit.

Did you sous vide and pan sear that? Looks perfectly rare.
  23. Depends on what you do...but if you work as well as you fish you will find something quick. It is hard to hire good candidates in STL...We take our chances and train mostly, or spend for an experienced hire. Not to happy with most of our trainees. The Universities rip most of them off IMO. They should have a clue about accounting if they are an accounting major before they start....Most do not, fail the CPA exam many times and move on. Shoot me a PM with your CV, Resume, and can make a suggestion. I work with hundreds of businesses.
  24. When did they start opening C&R trout fishing before the deer opener? It used to be the Friday before the Rifle Deer opener...Not that I care one way or the other.
