  1. It’s about 2-2.25 hrs from St Louis one way.
  2. Bats swoop my pool constantly when I leave the light on. I like those critters. Never find one in the skimmer basket.
  3. I could not care less about what Wal-mart does. Have 2 hand guns that sit and collect rust 364/24/7. Might not shoot it, but inspect/clean all at least once a year. Have ammo on hand but don’t store a bunch. I date the boxes and get rid of it if over 5 yrs old. Will usually go bang as well as new but buddies who shoot allot are glad to have it.
  4. Nope, but I've floated that area...You probably don't want to take a jet boat downstream from Ruby's at the Narrows.. You will encounter a 100 yard long shoal with fast water and lots huge rock's about two miles below there. I usually end up walking at least part of it if I have a loaded canoe or my jon. Kayak s//b OK.
  5. Glad you had a great trip! Thanks for the pics.
  6. Had opportunity at our friends farm near Topeka. Farm borders a 300 acre lake. Some teal, mallard, and geese on the lake, but no doves working their corn & bean fields. Bass fishing was good and a case of clay birds died so might do OK with birds to shoot. Kids had fun swimming & kayaking. Good time but poor hunting.
  7. Nice!
  8. Might get shot is a huge overstatement. Some drunk rental boater got shot by a drunk landowner on the Meramec a couple years ago. Haven’t heard of anyone else getting shot for trespass and I’ve only been run off politely a couple times.
  9. I don’t see any that look like chanterelles. Hen of the Woods, Chicken of the Woods, Chanterelles, and Oysters are fairly easy to find & ID in the fall. Chants & Chickens are some of the easiest to find. Morels & black trumpets are hard to spot.
  10. You can scope it out via net, but scout new stretches on the way from known water someplace else first. Used to check 4-5 on way to or out. Don’t check much anymore.
  11. Gateway TU was talking about that a couple years ago...Guess they got it done..
  12. Sweet! Good for you....Caught a few on top this summer, but never really nailed it.
  13. I agree 100% Scott. To hell with them. Not worth the bother.
  14. Once you start the ball rolling and fire up the fryer...Something is going to get gigged and fried.
  15. The duck zones do not make sense because they ignore geography.
  16. I don't think that MDC's objectives are motivated by money..They are guaranteed to get more every year thanks to the 1/8 cent sales tax they receive. Under table money, and side perks might be a part of it...The Conservation Commissioners are usually high rollers and appointed by the GOV....They have a big PR problem with avid outdoors people....and there needs to be some public oversight at a high level, because the agency is currently unaccountable.
  17. Think that most big White/Taney/Norfork tailwater fish prefer to eat fish guts almost exclusively. Plenty of rainbow guts available for no effort.
  18. Some of my favorite skits. Argument v Abuse. "I came here for an argument...Sorry, this is abuse." "NOBODY, expects the Spanish Inquisition!" The Cheese Shop.
  19. Sweet! Fish do bite when a front moves in.
  20. Welcome. There is a lifetime's worth of river fishing in this state. Some lake fishing too.
  21. Their "Public Feedback" is a joke...They do what they want. Not really the fault of the rank and file, the leadership must suck.
  22. 14 misses and a limit....is pretty good for most. Less than 2 boxes of shells. Have been spotting more doves in town. No teal, just local bread eating ducks...Bunch of juvie ducks and geese this year. The geese hatched a bunch, they are fledged and gone. Mallards did two broods mostly....
  23. Headed to a friends farm in KS next weekend. Plan to do some shooting. If no birds in the area will have to fish the the lake on the property border (300 acres). Has some hybrid striped bass and walleye in it, but usually just catch largemouth.

    What's Cooking?

Carnitas tonight. Homemade guacamole, lime pickled red onion, charred pineapple. Was good! Did the meat in the instapot then tossed under the broiler.
  25. Very nice! One of the few places on earth were you can do that. THAT, plus a walleye and a smallmouth is your next challenge.😉
