  1. Pop guns & pellets arrived today. Gonna be torture to let them sit until Christmas.
  2. You bring up a good point Trout Addict. Populations in towns like St. Clair, Washington, & Union have have probably doubled doubled in my lifetime. All that runoff ends up in the river eventually. .
  3. Narrow Band=Cold & Icy Wide Band=Mild Have not checked the persimmon tree yet.

    What's Cooking?

Yes very precise. I've checked mine with 3 different thermometers. What you dial in on the display is what you get. Plus you can bolt it to the side of any small container. My wife used in a small cooler the other day.. Anova Precision Cooker

    What's Cooking?

That should work BH...I went with 150 degrees because bacteria die of at 140 degrees. Its really a low maintenance way to cook. You could vac ahead and freeze, then toss in the pot for a couple hours to thaw and cook. You cant overcook anything.
  6. Settle and it's all you get. Take the pig with lipstick home, or keep looking? Ancient question.
  7. Would pay your 4th quarter state estimate plus your expected state & local liabilities in by 12/31 this year. Can deduct this year, probably not in 2018.
  8. Found another little barb in the tax bill today. No deduction for interest on home equity loans. This bill is sausage, tons of nickel & diming on the individual side.

    What's Cooking?

Did some sous vide chicken thighs last night. 150 all day then finished under the broiler. Turned out well. The duck looks better.
  10. TJM, we are talking river bass not ditch fish.
  11. I can't verify the validity of the data, Jim provided, just popped it into excel and ran a few metrics. Fish sampled per hour was really low on the 2015 Survey v the two older surveys. Lousy net man, boat driver, & location can really affect that. The samples are what they are. Samples say more numbers around 19. Probably true if you want to catch a fish. Lots of dinks up there. They manage for 12" mostly. Meramec SMBSMA is way too high up, thinking Campbell to the confluence with the Mississippi would be better. No limit on spots or hybrids.
  12. Post up some pics and a story, sure, we love that stuff, but don't name the location if river basing. Some will know where, some won't.
  13. Deduct what you think is ethical. It does not need to be perfect but you need records. Home to first stop is commuting. No deduction. Home to office is commuting. personal errands not usually but if on the way, yes. Will post up a link to some guidance when not typing with my thumb.
  14. Looks like your in Billings, so no🔒. Hired 3 last month, 1 is a rehire and definite keeper who found the grass was not greener. 1 appears to be a keeper. Other one needs some help but OK with simple stuff, training but will see. Full staff at the moment, will re-evaluate in May.
  15. Don't tell where you find them. They get poached for the pet trade.
  16. They have a bunch of them at the St. Louis Zoo. Know a lady who works on the program. She says they have some kind of fungus, and they get poached allot for the asian pet trade. More info here. https://www.stlzoo.org/about/contact/pressroom/presskit/world-s-first-captive-hellbender-breeding/ http://news.stlpublicradio.org/post/saint-louis-zoo-shares-secrets-salamander-love-hellbender-symposium#stream/0
  17. Had a couple of great days, but it was a weird year. Was fun figuring old spots again but sad to see all the flood damage..
  18. That's pretty cool...Did you know that your address is showing?
  19. Daryk I think you are making a big mistake by not taking mileage. That's a big deduction, and they make apps to track that that.
  20. Thanks for the numbers Jim. A little bored (sitting through a webinar today) so I ran their numbers. Their sample rate per hour drops from 45-50 an hour to 25 and hour at the Huzzah data point, then its about 17-18 an hour from Sappington on down to River Round where it drops to 10 an hour.. I'm not sure what causes that. The river is significantly bigger below the Huzzah, so maybe their shock boat isn't as effective,. The habitat does seem to change there, bigger wider, big huge gravel bars. Maybe its pressure because it is all jet boatable. Big fish (RSD18) do seem to turn up more frequently as a percentage of fish sampled below the Huzzah. Maybe the bigger ones move downsteam in search of bigger forage (shad). It would be interesting to see some data from samples taken below the Bourbeuse.
  21. After you see a couple hundred of them it is obvious. Wish I saw less of them, river bass of the future most likely.
  22. Not exactly. Would not deprive you of some great days of floating on the Gasconade, Big Piney, James, or Meramec. Lots of water.... Can't cover it all once in a lifetime. You can catch a good smallie in lots of spots if you can read the water and know where a good fish should be hanging out.
  23. There are some smallies between the last dam an the Mississippi not many but they are there.
  24. Yep it's a hybrid. Barring below the lateral line. Biggest one Iv'e ever seen. Nice catch Scott.
  25. Buddy left his wallet on top in STL on a driving trip to Montana. Was still there when he went to gas up in KS. Lucky Guy!
