  1. Anything tastes better than poop eating tilapia.
  2. Sounds like a wire leader is in order. Muskie & Pike require some caution when handling. Sharp gill plates and teeth. Jaw spreader and a big net is helpful.
  3. Good luck, they don't grow very fast and they don't get bigger than 15" very often. You would be better off finding uses for Asian & Common carp.
  4. Have a bunch in the back yard now.
  5. Have there holes marked with the DE...they die tonight!
  6. Usually use a 10' rod and switch cast big indicator rigs.

    PB!

We ate walleye, pike, and a few smallmouth for shore lunch one day up in Ontario two weeks ago. Pike was a little sweeter, but all about the same. Ontario''s limits are fairly restrictive, people usd to haul tons of fish back from Canada but that has changed for the most part and fisheries have rebounded. As good now as it ever was.
  8. Would love to burn them out...but its right by the driveway in front, plus under a 40' pine with lots of needles, and overhead lines above...Fire is not an option. They will pay with their lives! Guaranteed!
  9. Found a nest in the yard the hard way this AM...Had a steroid shot, some prednisone, and benadryl, now contemplating revenge. Nest is under a big pine that I was cleaning out with the chainsaw. Any recommendations to kill these SOB's? Have a bunch of Diamatious Earth on hand and found one entrance to the hive maybe one more....Figure I'll cover the two suspect entrances with DE tonight. Any recommendations?
  10. Lots of ways to catch fish, but chance is about 80% of the equation. Being there when they are on the feed and you will have a banner day. You can always scratch up a enough to be entertaining , but when it is on, it is on.
  11. You can do it. Its a very simple process.
  12. Have a Northfork Composites Shooter series that's 5'6" with 6" straight cork handle, for walking & jerk baits. I'll probably order another blank to wrap this winter. They are one of the few Manufacturers that offer short rod blanks.
  13. The Whopper Plopper works pretty well, and its easy to use. Some buddies did well with it on bass & pike up in Canada last week. Will be picking a few up. I like walking baits better though. I have a bunch of walking baits, most of those already mentioned but usually use a Megabass Giant Dog X, or and LC Gunfish. Buzzbaits, Poppers, and Prop baits work too, but I don't use them very often. Use what you have the most confidence in, and let the fish tell you what they want. Sometimes a different size, wider or tighter walk, or different cadence can make all the difference with a walking bait.
  14. Nice haul! Caught a few for shore lunches in Canada last week, but did not bring any back. Great eats with some fried potatoes & onions & beans. Fry the taters first, add onions when the taters are starting to brown. Remove the taters & onions and season. Add a can or two of beans with the lid cut off to the Dutch oven. Bread and fry your fish along with the beans.

    Whatchya Drinking?

Got back from Canada late last night. Enjoying a 16 oz Surly furious IPA that I picked up in the twin cities. Darn good beer! Sam Adams Ocktoberfest is on the shelves too. Will have one after the Surly.

    PB!

Both great fish! Good Walleye even by Canadian standards.
  17. First one I remember was from the Meramec. My dad owned a lot with a trailer on it in the old Bluffs CG and we visited often to fish & hunt deer and turkey on the Corps of engineers property purchased for the Meramec dam. Ralph Brown shuttled us that day. Don't remember the stretch. Dad made a nice cast to a small pocket of sparse willows with his brand new Lunker Lure buzzbait. The lure moved about a foot before the water cratered and the biggest bass I'd ever seen to date was on the end of his line. Bass measured at 19" and the smile on his face was priceless. He only had one Lunker Lure Buzzbait so we shared it for the rest of the float and had a wonderful time. Dad got me my first decent spinning setup, new tackle box, and a couple good lures for my birthday couple weeks later. Included was my own Lunker Lure Buzzbait. We wouldn't have to share anymore.
  18. There is a little bit of cutthroat, some steelhead, and lord knows what else in the Missouri hatchery rainbow trout. They are a man made fish designed to facilitate hatchery production.
  19. Can't stand floaters with boom boxes and the jet boat joy ride crowd. Nothing wrong with jet boat fisherer folk. Rarely see the same fishing jet boat more than once, sometimes twice.
  20. I've always preferred to catch wild trout in their native range. I'm fine with the status quo in Missouri. We have some wild fish, stockers for the masses, and some big feral trout. Our stream trout fishing is top notch when compared to most in the lower 48. Could not care less about tailwater trout fishing. Did plenty of it years ago, just not my thing anymore.
  21. Enrollment is down and it is already having an impact. Real Estate & Job Market sucks in Columbia.

    What's Cooking?

Gonna dry age that rib eye or cold smoke it?

    What's Cooking?

Nope, this brisket had a huge point on it, cut in half. Will have tons of burnt ends.
  24. Rear pectoral fin? Biologists will clip the adipose, & left or right rear pectoral and tail fin to ID fish. Don't think they clip the front pectorals. They will grow back if not clipped too close.
  25. Madame X usually a 6 or 8. Tied on a TMC 200R or the Dai-Riki same same. Beetles are standard dry fly hooks 10-14. Go with a straight eye hook for the little nonsense. You rarely need that little stuff, unless you want to catch lots of small fish.
