Big River has been blown up every time I've been looking to float. Same with the Meramec, BB, and several others....Think a lot of folks are creaking till the rain stops.

Personal Property Taxes are assessed by County that you live in, not the State. The funds usually go into the "General Fund" which means that they can spend it however they want to.

Increased pressure will increase the tag return rate but I dont think that matters much. The main focus is on what anglers do with those tagged fish after they catch them, not how many people are fishing for them.

You cant stop it now. I'm sure that the tag survey is having a short term effect...but they are doing it to assess harvest rates. If harvest rates are high it will increase the possibility of future regulation changes.

I agree...Fishing solo in any watercraft would not be fun at that level. Figure we were lucky to catch anything at all. I tossed a suspending jerkbait off and on but nada, probably not deep enough. In hind sight, I probably shoulda tried a swimming a hair jig. Fun rollercoaster ride though. We spent the rest of the weekend kid fishing over on Dry Run and they cant wait to go back.

That was us...I was in the red solo canoe my buddy Chris was in the orange tarpon 120. Thanks for the tip, it payed off. Didnt catch many...but every one of them hit a #6 Pat's Rubberlegs. No love on typical tailwater flies.

I think that MDC needs to adjust its violation system to discourage illegal gigging. Gig a gamefish..no fishing or hunting of any kind for a year, no deer permits for two!

My buddy Chris and me floated the Norfork with two running on Friday. Put in at Quarry and took out at the confluence 3 hours later. We caught some fish but its not a stunt that either of us want to repeat in a solo canoe or SOT kayak again. Nothing to hit.....but just a ton of fast, high consequence water. Drifter, Jon, or Jet next time. The faucet was going on at 10am and running till 7-8pm Thursday-Sunday.

That doesnt look like a gig wound....Maybe that bass spent some time spinning around on an limb or trot line....Unattended lines are a problem too.

Think you have a great selection for smallies...I would definetly try some top water...Small walkers and poppers like the Spook Jr., Cultiva Zip n Ziggy, Zell Pop R, LC G Splash work well on spin tackle. But use a mono leader instead of flouro. I usually toss flies in the trout water but you could try some jigs, cranks, floating & suspending jerkbaits that mimic the forage in the river. Black & Brown stoneflies in the 3/4"-1.25" range, Tan Crawfish in the 1.5-2" range...Olive Craws in the 2-4" range...Dusky Stripe Shiners and Central Rollers in the 3-5" range. If you hear a jet coming...get the heck out of the channel..You can hear them coming well in advance.

You will need a set of round bend pliers for the bends...Most hobby stores sell them...look in the jewelry making section..A good set of linesmans pliers and some split ring pliers is a plus too. A dial caliper or a good ruler helps too. Pretty simple really.
