  1. Nice...headed out for a bit of trout fishing tomorrow...might have to figure this winter smallie gig out one of these days.
  2. Its probably tresspassing....but who's gonna know?
  3. Hard to find colors and good quality is always in demand but Taney doesnt have much dry fishing. I'd stick with stuff suitable for buggers and cracklebacks and let the other guy stare at his inventory. Cheers.
  4. 4wt...no drag needed IMO.....Get a Hardy or a Peerless....if its in the budget...If not...get the Konic...Same drag as the LS, but a really nice price. Cheers.
  5. http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/the-platform/files/2008/08/nursing_home1_opt.jpg Here you go!
  6. Price is relative......A $20 hard jerk bait usually lasts alot longer than 4-5 bags of Flukes. Cheers.
  7. Looks like a great place to spend your summer...Stayed at a lodge not far from there many years ago and it was fantastic.
  8. Got mine today...nice bunch of flies...FS thanks for organizing this, and the rest of you for tying.
  9. Depends on the fly...If its something I have a bunch of and its easy to tie. I'll break em off. If not and its hot...I'm gonna get my fly back.
  10. Folks were using an assortment of heavy objects on ropes and long handled nets to fish out the ice. Even saw a few fish caught. I counted 19 people fishing this AM...and several were leaving with their limits when pulled into the parking lot. Probably wont be many trout left after today.
  11. The silly things people do to catch some trout...what a hoot!
  12. I've never met Chief..but I know Matt & Brian. I watched Matt tie his first fly many years ago...a wooly bugger pushing maximum denisity...kinda like Matt these days;>). Dude, drop some weight or you will be dead by 50! If they dont like Hickory...Thats fine with me...Never high on my list, and I really doubt that I'll ever visit. Matt & Brian are young bucks...trying to get it quick and say they did it....Think they would have had more fun if they werent in such a gosh darn hurry! Cheers.

    Knots

I use the palomor, improved clinch, clinch, non-slip loop, and Davy knot to tie line to lures and flies. Mono to mono...blood or a triple surgeons knot. Braid to mono or flouro...triple surgeons knot, because uni to uni is a PIA. It really doesnt have to be the strongest knot on the planet in my book...its just got to be easy to tie and hold well.
  15. No unfortunately....but we'll be down again soon enough.
  16. From my in box... This retirement stuffs great, I hope you guys live this long. Lets leave for a float asap. I have a tent that can shed this ice,and a heater for refuge "if we need it".I think it's been 20 yrs since the last time there was a 4" ice storm down there. Heck, lets all do something out of the norm and go,call your fams and bosses and live a little. You will never forget it. You won't remember that day at work, and it may not happen again for the rest of your life.I know it's easy for me to say ,retired and all but this is a chance of a life time.
  17. Capt Mel's site may have some info for you as well http://capmel.com/
  18. Scott Darrow published a recipe for the "Russell Fly" in an OFF Newsletter awhile ago. He also describes how to fish it. I'm sure it will work if you fish it agressivelly and vary it up.....Fish with your brain. Not working?...Change...you will do well. http://ozarkflyfishers.org/fly/russell.html
  19. Welcome aboard Juan. Sorry for the rip off comment. Both flies are in the style of the Madame X (bar none...One of my favorite flies) and I'm sure that many folks have developed there own secret recipes. I tie alot of X type flies and I'll give yours a go. Yours Looks alot like the Woodland Crickets that I see in the Fall..I find tons of them in my pool skimmer basket August-September.
  20. Hopper Juan...looks good..Kind of a rip off of the Pink Pookie from Hatchfinder's in Livingston, but a good design.
  21. No rush...just giving you a poke.
  22. In the mail?
  23. Hoppers, Crickets, Beetles, and Ants work....and I usually fish them in that order...Many patterns work, but I always have some Madame X's, Stimi's, & Rainey's in the box...Sometimes a low floater works a heck of alot better than a high riding foam pattern. Hit the shade lines, bounce em off the bluffs, sneak em under overhanging vegetation. Cheers.
  24. Dunno...Not sure who can help you out in that area...I used to fish Tampa Bay quite a bit...Caught a lot of sea trout and ladyfish in the fall & winter. I know a guy in Naples..Capt. Tom Shadley...He's a good guy...He lived in St. Louis before he moved to Florida & opened his fly shop and Hargrove goes down to chase tarpon with him every year. Give him a call and see what/whom he recommends in that area. Cheers. http://www.mangroveoutfitters.com/index.html
