  1. Wow! That is kind of bad news. I was just approved to have Thursday and Friday off. Thought I would fish. How far to Pomme then?
  2. Yepper. Her name is Nikki. The smartest person errr dog I have ever met. She loves to fish, hike camp or do anything her family is doing. She is hard to photograph though as she is seems to be camera shy. A bit of a bed hog though.
  3. Woohoo! Get to share some dog pics!
  4. I have been trying to stay out of this one, but it cracks me up. I am a dog lover and have two of them. I am sorry a beagle was shot. It is seldom I agree with jdmidwest, BUT mark this one on the calendar. The news story is from the dog owner's point of view and you don't have both sides. I have actually written articles on cases we handled for the paper, read it the next day and the paper had names. amounts, cash seized and locations wrong. Some of the solutions are hilarious....shoot a warning shot? Are you serious? I am still laughing. Throw a hot dog? I can see the ranger pulling a fresh weenie from his weenie holster and throwing it in such a way as to divert the beagle (stubborn hunting dog) from the prey. LOL That is hilarious too. What caliber weenie was it? You guys are funny tonight. When I lived in International Falls, Minnesota....they had trouble with the wolves killing sheep. They weren't eating the. just killing the sheep. A huge meeting was held because the farmers were getting ready to take the matter into their own hands. These particular wolves were protected at the time. A nice old lady recommended they catch the wolves and neuter them. The farmer stood up and said, Lady they are killing my sheep not (expletive) breeding them! No offense to anyone. We (at work) have had a good chuckle here, and really sorry it was at the expense of a dog that was killed probably due to the owner not being responsible. Headed up to LOZ at the end of March fishinwrench. Love to buy you a cup of coffee and put a face to a name. You have been a big help to quite a few folk on here with your knowledge.
  5. I think it is another personal preference thing. Still fun to talk about. I have a few different brands, but trying to stay with Falcon now. The reason I like one brand is, I know what I am getting. I almost picked up a St. Croix (can't remember which one now), but opted to go with the known on another Falcon lowrider. It is sometimes easier to have different rods so you know which line is on which reel with a glance. Still leaning toward one company and have been happy with the durability. lightness and sensitivity of the Falcons at their price point.
  6. I want to fish Friday, but I am guessing it will be full of FLW and followers.
  7. Can't seem to get the link thing to work on this new forum....one more time? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_102800_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1
  8. Volabass, A reel is a personal preference thing. The ones you found might be fine. I agree with stlfisher and think a Shimano Citica would be better. It is here..My link
  9. But you went......trade you my day of work for your day of fishing! Hope it goes better next time!
  10. We fish a few every year. The Cops for Kids is te first Tuesday in May, there is a Fish for Sight April 24th on Truman, and a bunch on LOZ. I am not sure where they are all listed. I usually get fliers in the mail.
  11. Gosh hate to argue with Terry as he is a well respected contributor to the forum, but I would never consider Bass Pro a "Big Box Store." I read a few definitions to see if I had the wrong idea of a box store. I think I understand the definition okay. They are not near as knowledgeable as Fin and Feather, but the guys at Bass Pro helped teach me how to tie on a tippet or whatever you call it. The guys in the gun shop actually know what they are talking about, the guys in the knife shop have some knowledge of knives, the reel guys know a bit about reels and so on....The stores are well decorated and have themes. They do not have flat roofs and plain concrete floors. They have actual pedestrian flow arranged to work people through the store (no matter how slowly) that lead people to different parts of the store. I agree with big and maybe a bit of a tourist trap....I also agree that you get better assistance from Terry at his shop and the guys at Fin and Feather. As far as a reel.....it is still personal preference and hard to recommend a reel for someone else. As far as what real fishing is.....nice McCord trout....would rather have a pic of me holding Jessary's 7 pounder! HAha!

    Heads Up

Sam, Four years or so ago they sold that combo for $99.00. I purchased two of them and put 12 pound Maxima on them. They are still on my boat deck everytime I go out. They are a bit heavier than my other set ups, but great for me. I also fish left handed. I might go fight the crowds tomorrow evening too.
  13. Gary Lange talked me into flouro. So far I like the Seaguar InvisX. I have some Bass Pro and it has great reviews, but it didn't seem to hold up as long for me. It seemed like the sun broke it down faster. Just a feeling though, no hard data.
  14. I actually thought the gator was fake the first few times i was in there. Then I saw it move!
  15. Wow! Some nice fish.
  16. I am probably going to get beat down for this opinion but here it goes. I have some BPS ones, some Pflueger Presidents (my favorite) and a few others. Last year I bought a Shimano spinning reel for $11.99. I think it was an IX something. We were taking a young kid fishing and I figured if he lost it overboard with a rod that had the tip fixed, it would be no big loss. The funny thing was the reel was smooth. We ended up replacing some other reels with the little cheap reel. I have cheap Shimano spinning reels that are fifteen years old and still on rods we use on the pond by our house for bluegill. It seems to me that a really good sensitive rod is important for spinning reels, but you can get by with a cheaper reel. Baitcasters are a different deal and it seems a good quality reel there is more important. For what its worth....that's my 2 cents worth.
  17. Fantastic question with awesome answers. On the foul hooked fish issue....I thought you weren't supposed to keep them. Might be a misunderstanding from my Alaska days as you can't keep foul hooked fish there.
  18. Wearing my Skeeter cap. Actually the wife thinks it is funny how I can get my shirt off and on without taking off my cap!
  19. Now that was funny! That is either a very young looking man or a baby with a deep voice.
  20. Whew! Wifey went last year. Good thing she didn't this year or we would be sleeping in your boat!
  21. I keep meaning to try to get into senkos more and even had read about fishing that way a few times. I have to vow to try it this year. I guess everyone has figured out my favorite fishing area? I like Aunt's Creek, because you can almost do any type of fishing nearby. Jackson Hollow isn't far, great main lake points close by, deep structure, docks, big rocks, little rocks, shale. pea gravel, clay, standing timber and cedars all almost within sight of one spot I like. I guess there are a lot of areas like that though. Even with all of that it is still a challenge for me to figure out where they are, how deep, what they are eating, how fast they want their food moving and so on. If I think I have it figured out then the wind dies, the sun rises or some other natural condition to change it all again. I love the challenge of fishing. It still seems hard to consistently get the big ones or a heavy bag on tourney day. I could read these posts everyday. I often go back to last year and see what people were doing this week last year and try to learn for this year. I guess that is a long version of saying thanks for all of the lessons! Still very hungry for more.
  22. I just now arrived home from work and the first thing I did was check to see how great it was. I really enjoyed last year and am totally bummed I missed this year! Glad you guys had a great time though.
