Don, You using flavors on your plastics? Garlic?
-
Thanks to Bill it would be the empty pegs at BPS! LOL. Most of my buds use watermelon seed, pumpkin seed, and smoke and pepper. Brand is whatever you like. Some folks like the BPS salted, some like the Chompers, and so on. If on the bottom use the color of the thing a fish would eat on bottom. If suspended then use the color of what a fish would eat in suspended water. If I were a fish I would prefer pepperoni pizza colored.

My family and a few of our friends were down there this weekend. Last year we were unable to float the upper river because it was too dry. This year we went earlier because we wanted to float the upper, but it was too high. Bobber in the Buffalo River forum was very helpful. We decided to float the middle river because of the young age of some of the kids we took. None of us flipped or even got wet, but there were quite a few unintentional swimmers thoughout the day. One canoe was flooded, caught under water on a tree and bent in half. I have to thank Bobber and the people he recommended. They talked me out of the upper river float with the small kids. I am responsible for me, my friends and their little booger eaters. I did the research because of it. The people who rent out the canoes don't know my experience level. I am a novice, but the one feller grew up in New Guinea. He used a flat boat to go to school where he ran track barefoot. Jungle boy can go up or down river any way he wants. I am happy to stay in the canoe, looking forward and keep the wife dry. You are responsible for you and your chitlins, not the vendors. It is a sad day when a little one is lost. We will say a prayer for him and his family at our house.

My bud just called and they caught over forty fish today on a similar pattern and bait technique you mentioned. Feel free to private message me the GPS coordinates for Tuesday if you like!

I used to be a card carrying member of the Rainy Lake Sport Fishing Club in International Falls, MN. They worked hard on issues like this. I am not wise enough to make decisions like this. I do hate the knee jerk reaction of passing a law when folks can't use common sense. We have laws against telephone harassment because someone harassed over the telephone, we have a law against having intercourse with a dead body, because someone.....well never mind. Doesn't someone have to give a regada permit or something to have a tournament? Could these folks have a rule like this without passing amother law? I wonder why folks can't just go ahead and do the right thing.

Eric, I just went to te Web site and listed to you guys. Interesting stuff, but now I am fairly angry. I enjoy tournament fishing. I never seem to win or even do well. I do enjoy meeting up with a bunch of people who like what I like and chewing the fat. Now the anger issue....how on could they approve of a tournament on any lake wich does not use a catch and release boat? That is plain old wrong with a capital R!

Thanks bobber and all, I think we will play it safe with the kids, camp at Tylers Bend and just do the lower or middle river. No use having everyone on edge for the weekend. Stop by Friday or Saturday for a smore! teco

The water was over the road on the left side, and the big ramp is not useable. The right side was fine. Maybe I will see you there Saturday morning. We are still discussing where to put in! I will be the tall homely fellow in the red and white Skeeter.
-
I launched there last Saturday. There were so many tournaments going... I didn't want to mess with all of the other boats at Mill Creek and Ahoy's to launch. I paid the five bucks. I was the only boat there in the morning. I was the only fishing boat when I returned. There were quite a few HUGE boats putting in when returned at the end of the day. One parked aross the top of the ramp and blocked it wile he was purchasing snacks. His Mother didn't raise him well! I will go back to the Corp ramps when they are open. I will probably head up to Shell Knob bridge or Mill Creek this weekend. I didn't mind paying the five dollars for the quick load and unload for a day or two. I do not like that they charge five dollars to use the ramp on the Cops for Kids fundraiser tournament. They seem to be taking advantage of the fundraiser. If they are going to charge for fundraisers, then maybe they could donate half of the fee back to the charity.

Thanks for the replies! Bobber usually helps out. I will drop him a PM.

As I mentioned before....we are headed down the first weekend of May. We plan on the float day being Saturday. We are staying at Tyler (kids and wives want showers). Any idea on where to float? We had a pleasant exprience with who we rented the canoes from last time, but we were thinking of headigna bit farther up stream. Class of rapids there? Will the kids be okay up there? Thanks again for input. I doubt I will get much fishing in, based on past float experiences with kids.

Cajunangler, I went to Kimberling City 13 ramp. You have to pay $5.00 there now, but I didn't have to deal with the other three or four hundred boats trying to use a ramp. I also didn't have to burn gas driving around looking for a place to ramp or park. I am eagerly anticipating Aunt's Creek to open back up. It is my favorite place to launch.

My friend and I drove the Skeeter around most of the day. We put in at Kimberling 13 Ramp. No one else was there. We ended up on the other side of Cape Fair, and back. Caught two shorts. It was a fun and slow day for us. It was a bit windy by this afternoon. We did bump into a fellow who offered his fishing spot to us. He asked us if we were fishing a tournament, and if so then we could have the point. We were not fishing the tournament, and thanked him anyway. He said he was having a challenging time today. Makes the day even more enjoyable to bump into folks like him. I would highly recommend not to go where I did and throw what I threw if you want to catch fish!
-
I think I am going to pay the five bucks and put in at the Highway 13 ramp tomorrow. There will be less tourney traffic. I hope the guys do well though. I will give the report of where not to go and what not to throw at the wrong depth when I get back tomorrow! CourseI have all spinner baits, crank baits and grubs tied on.

It is sort of creative! LOL

I love Bass Pro. Wished they carried groceries too. -
Oh gosh! I stole a quote for earlier. "Cricket Creek off the hwy. Lots of space for rigs and people are lanching there. State Park, No problem 39 Bridge at Shell Knob Ok, but may find some debris Big Bay Ramp at Shell Knob Very Good limited parking Campbell Pt at Shell Knob Ok but shallow, no problem with shorts or a companion H Hwy at Shell Knob Good parking and lots of space Eagle Rock Good parking and lots of space Baxter 2 roads shallow easy with shorts or a companion Kimberling Inn Good limited parking These are the ramps and roads I have been launching on with no problem the other guys will give you their spots. That is 9 ramps from Long Creek to Eagle Rock, and I am sure the boys will have more. "

Just filled up for tomorrow. $3.25 a gallon and first born child. Never ever could get that kid to mow the lawn anyway.

Wow this is an interesting topic. I am not sure I would send in money if you posted an address. I appreciate the information, and if I ever get any I try to share it back. Last year I was able to scrape enough together to get a couple of guides to train me in the skill of fishing a bit. One guide was Babbler. I had an awesome time with him. Even better is that he trained me like I requested. He didn't take me out and throw a live minnow on my hook. He showed me a little bit about what to look for on the banks and some other valuable tips. My fishing improved 1000%. The second guide did not listen as well to my request, but he doesn't post on here anyway. If I win the powerball I would send Babbler some money for info. As I have said many times on this forum...a guide even for a half day is well worth the money. If you are coming to Table Rock for a week of vacation, then you might as well spend a bit more for a half day guide and make the trip a bit more successful. I am one of the folks who called Babbler. I had his number from last year though. I asked him if he would speak to a Dare Officer about setting up a fishing event for challenged kids next year. Babbler spent well over twenty minutes speaking with Officer Forgey about some ideas and gave him some other resources (such as Phil). I apologize for using your number, Bill. I guess I should have dropped you an email first and seen when would be a good time. I know that time is money. I know because you told me when we were fishing. Thanks for all of the information everyone shares. It is a huge help for me to know there is no reason to go to Aunt's Creek to launch my boat. It saves me valuable fishing time looking for a ramp. There are times I don't fish, because I need to wait for a pay check to fill up the truck and boat. I get to fish a smidge more often because folks are willing to share information. I guess what I am saying is that the only way I can repay the guides on here is by booking trip or two a year, and recommending them to everyone I know. The only way I can repay the other folks is by sharing information back And many thanks to all.

Unless Aunt's Creek has changed a bunch since Sunday.....I would go somewhere else. Even on the far end is icky pooh.
-
Bill, Thanks for the info. We might head up to Shell knob and play around. I think there will be less boats there this weekend. Gosh I love this stuff.
-
Thanks. I appreciate it. This is a family camping and floating time. so showers are essential to my ability to live. I like the secluded stuff better myself. I think you helped me out with informaton with last years trip. If you ever come through Nixa, ,let me know and we can share a cup of coffee. My treat.

Where is everyone putting in at? The Anglers in Action guys wll have Mill Creek pretty well crowded on Saturday. That is the next day I can go.

How is Erbie? Are there showers? We are headed down again the first weekend in May. A good time to float? Any suggestions on a day float at that time of the year. Last year we stayed at Tyler Bend. It was fun. The kids love the Buffalo River float! Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions.
