I am planning a fishing trip in late September. Seems that I heard one dock has a floating bunk house. Is that right? I primarily bass fish. The description says there is a lot of timber. Would the big water of the main lake be safer but still productive for bass?
Thanks for your input. When I get on Ozark Anglers forums I see that some lakes have just a few posts over the years. I had never thought about the infertility of this lake and the efforts being made to help it.
I haven't been to Greers Ferry in years. I have never fished it, but I have read many years ago about the monster walleye that were caught. I believe it also touted a variety of fish that other lakes didn't have. Is the lake still productive or in such decline no one has interest enough to make a report
I follow this forum, but have rarely posted. I didn't know Bo. He must have been friend and mentor to a lot of people for a long time. Your idea of a get together sounds great. If you can take a picture and maybe identify faces with forum name.
Many years ago when I was in the Southwest Missouri bass club we had Charlie Campbell as a guest speaker. He was asked by one of the members what the qualifications were to become a professional bass fisherman. His reply. " Have enough money to pay the entry fee"
Same here at Stockton lake. I live here. Of course last years wave of people was pandemic driven. This year is not quite as bad, but still way above normal.
Got out late yesterday afternoon. Put in at Mutton north. Decided to let the bass tournament guys conclude. Seven bass tournaments yesterday and five more today. That seems a bit much. I targeted crappie and wasn't disappointed other than most were small. I caught most on a roadrunner with a faster than normal retrieve in 5-8' of water halfway back in coves. The banks with good size chunk rocks seemed best. Water temp was 58° halfway between Mutton and CC. I kept five to eat. Threw back several large white bass and largemouth.
I went bye CC yesterday afternoon. The mud line had just passed the ramp and there was a strong current. The same can be said when I went bye the 39 bridge. Today the current had subsided substantially. It should have little effect on main lake fishing from a clarity standpoint.
On a complete different note, when I stepped out of my cabin up here this morning I was greeted by a huge otter trancing through the woods. I am about 1500" from waters edge.
I watched two different boats using them about a week ago at Stockton and they were watching the screen and catching crappie. The fish were over deep water. the person I talked to at the ramp after my day of futility said they were 40" deep over 60' foot of water. I understand they are a great tool, but have reservations where this will lead to fish population wise over the next few years.
There were some big whites on the flats on the upriver side of CC bridge Thursday. I was crappie fishing with Bobby Garland baits among the huge schools of shad. in 9-12' of water
There has been a 180 acre farm for sale on 1774 over looking Price Branch. I wonder if this is the landowner we are discussing. Years ago I was able to drive into the back of Googer off of Y highway ( county rd 131) but the last time I tried that road was blocked (I believe the corp quit maintaining that road)
Nicely done. Did you fish towards Turkey Creek? I was wondering if some of the timber out in the middle of the lake in that area had started showing. I know the timber around the island is visible, but there's some pretty good sized trees that are scattered in the main lake and four or five that sit smack dab in the middle of Turkey Creek.
I was surprised last week. it's a pretty good launch. Saturday the lot was full. Fishing has been poor for me. I know what you mean about the height on some courtesy docks. The one at the town of Stockton was really high the last time I was there about a week ago.
I like ken's in Arcola, especially the catfish. I have heard that Grandmas place north of Jerrico Springs is a real good place, but they are only open on Friday nights and maybe a couple more evenings during the week. I plan to try and find it next time at the lake.
