Informative To Anyone Who Wants To Get Into Catfishing
ciRe replied to Smalliebigs's topic in Cats and Dogs
I use these two but don't use a 3 way swivel. I use 2 two ways (2 different sizes) and overlap each other because it's cheaper and holds up just as much. I think next weekend we are doing a Rod N Reel Flathead get together if you are interested Smalliebigs. Basically you will get Fri evening - Sunday morning to catch the biggest winner will take all the $$$. Usually we get around 20+ people at $20 a person (Not a boat) most of us will camp on an island or go back home if you wish. Anywhere between Clarksville to Alton dams. -
With the flooding down south we went back out to the river. Ended up mainly on the Mississippi again and it was absolutely horrible. We only rod n reel fished this weekend (besides a hour of jug lines) and the biggest cat was a 5lb channel on a shad. We went up to cuivre to catch some shad with the throw net and where our honey hole was covered in gar. One throw we had over 30 gar that tangled us up pretty good but was a good laugh. One of the guys that has been going with us for a while wanted his brother to come so he went out with me. Around 1145pm on Saturday night we decided to go to a new spot and I told him to toss the anchor and when he did he went in the water with it. We were right next to a log jam but we were setting up on the cuivre where there wasn't any current thank God. After that we were done for the weekend because it just wasn't worth it. Only good pic if the weekend was of all the gar.

What kills me is that I will take one of my buddy's fishing and if I start catching way more than him he is in my spot or less than a foot from me. I've had him follow me up and down the stream this way. When we are in the boat he will cast over me all the time saying "oh I didn't know you were there" it gets old but he's an old friend so I know he doesn't have to much to do.

Skipjack is by far the best blue bait I have ever used. I wish I knew where I could go catch some. It's just hard spending around $10 for 2 frozen pieces of bait. The big guy was cut bait from a big head that was cut 6"x4". If you get into the skipjack I'll trade you some buffalo considering the ditch we catch em is only 10 miles from my work. They are trying to get me to go camp on turkey island this weekend but I think the ol lady and I are going to Montauk. I've never been to Bryan island but sounds like a good place to fish.

So my buddies and I have been rod n' reel and setting lines for our deer seasons. We've actually done pretty good even with the flats. First weekend we went up to Louisiana, mo to fish above the Clarksville dam with some buddies that live up there and Saturdays haul was a better day than Sunday even though we caught a bigger one on Sunday. We were using all sunfish 2"-4" most made it alive but a lot did die. I think this weekend we had around 120 hooks out. Sunday we had 1 blue go 30lbs. Second weekend I decided to go out with the ol' lady and my buddy went out with a few other people and sadly they killed a monster. It went 80lbs and of course it was a blue. They were just south of the golden eagle ferry. After seeing what they caught before they made it back home I was disappointed because if I went with them I would have tossed it back in the water so someone could catch it rod n reeling. This past weekend we were up by the Winfield dam and we probably shouldn't have set Friday night but our egos were bigger than our brains with the rain. The rain was suppose to clear up around 6 but didn't stop till 8 making it hard to set lines and before we even knew it it was pitch black. This was only my second time up there and I ended up hitting a dyke (the motor jumped a little) but not hard at all but was still a reality check that the river will be able to eat up in the dark and may never be found. We had 1000s of mayflies around the lights and the boat but none on Saturday evening. We were using gold fish Friday night and only ended up with 5 channels. Saturday we threw nets in ditches at a duck club and caught buffalos galore to use for bait because we didn't want to spend $40 on 5 channels again but we were wrong on that night. We got out nice and early and split off to set lines. Usually during this time of the year we only set on the main channel but we decided to be different an set a few on all Missouri islands. And those were our best lines of the weekend. Caught one nice flat that went around 15 and 1 blue that went 23. So far between us our biggest flat was 42lbs and the blue was 80lbs. We are taking a break for a few weeks but will probably do another weekend before bow season starts for us.

For sure grass carp. Fun catch for sure.

Nice looking brown. I need to head down there soon its been too long.

Spoons and crankbaits (That aren't huge) do pretty good also sometimes. When I was younger (I was probably 17 so 8 years ago) there was a guy throwing a jerkbait by the spillway and caught a 5 1/2 lb brown. Sadly he kept it but it just shows ya that there can be fish to catch on anything there really.

I put more miles on my bike on the track a year than what this bike has. Good luck with sale.

Welcome. I'm also from the STL area also. Where at in STL?
-
I was hoping that this rain wouldn't affect the Meramec like the Mississippi. Well I was wrong. All we can hope is that it goes down faster than the Mississippi again. BTW this is the first year I have my own boat and it's just sitting there still...

New Ledge At Chute 2 And Bridge Work At Chute 3 - Pics
ciRe replied to Brian K. Shaffer's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Where's Darren gonna sit now? I sometimes sit right there also when the water is running and there is too many people. -
I heard the ramp closed down during the flood. Wasn't sure if it's back open? I am gonna head down there tomorrow morning unless someone tells me for sure that it is closed.
-
Do you live around there Hog? I put a small jet in there all the time during the summer. I have some property down the road from there right next to Little Indian.

Well I guess some of my friends and I are "Stupid" Granted we were all on kayaks with jackets on and we all have over 1,000 miles on our kayaks. When the river is up like that I would not recommend to go out but it's so much fun.
-
If you have a truck or suv I would recommend River Front if you get there on a weekday. There is a few back camp sites by the river that are really nice and seclusive. But if you have a car the road is a little rough.

I like the last picture a lot. But maybe because my camera can't go underwater.
-
Pretty interesting. I love it when you shoot them with a bow (Happened to me twice now) when they jump up on their legs. Just neat.
-
My buddy and I both shot jakes when 3 of them came running up to us on the 2nd day of the season. That Saturday I called one in for my neighbor and that summed up my turkey season. I have a picture of the jakes on my FB but don't have them on this computer.

That's crazy. Sorry for your loss. Just makes you think how fast do you want to go. I'll be out there early next month for a tournament.
-
Sounds like a fun day. Wish I could have enjoyed a day like that instead of work.

I wish I could play the fiddle. If there were steady jobs in Branson that would let me pay my bills and still play that's all I am asking for. Not there to make a killing. I take a test in stl tomorrow to see what I would start down there.
