  1. Lake with Stripers + Lake with Trout = Massive Stripers.
  2. That area is great Redfish and trout area, you may also find a stray Tarpon roaming around. For the set-up I would suggest 1 spinner spooled with 8lb test for the trout and reds. Bait caster spool it with 12 to 15lb. On the spinner I suggest hitting up the local bait shops for a popping cork and some D.O.A shrimp lures and Baitbusters ( mullet pattern) Also you will want to get 2 dozen large to jumbo shrimp. For shrimp fishing use 20lb fluorocarbon leader and pin the shrimp through the horn. On the bait caster you will want to throw GOLD casting spoons and Rapalas be sure to have some Zara Spooks with you in case of Tarpon. Those are the basics. If Jacks are around you will know what arm burn feels like. Now also Do not pass up any crabs you find, fiddlers are awesome for sheephead and other brim type fish. Start off by looking for Docks and the older the better especially ones that are rotted to the point they are not being used and also docks with BIG boats or designed for Big boats, those docks normally have deep troughs in them where big fish hang out. The older docks have old growth on them which attracts fish. Also any creek or culvert pipe is a must stop. Culverts only on outgoing tides. Don’t stress wading I have only had a couple Bull sharks remove fish from my stringer, but Nurse sharks will come as well, Nurses are much like puppies and will be nice you can offer them a meal if you want but don’t keep holding it, let it go when the nurse comes up. On the shark scene also and great fun from a yak, are spinner sharks. You can use your bait caster for them. Get some shark leaders from the bait store and a couple of frozen mullet or cut up a bait fish you catch using small pcs of shrimp. Spinners put on a great aerial fight. Have fun you will.

  4. I just left Hickory and though there was almost 0 trout left there was a couple nice smallmouth and a flathead I did find. Cheif should be on his way to catch them seeing how i told him where
  5. Works for me, You may need to install a compatible player.
  6. Wolfe is very good but LONG WAIT... I like guys who have long waits because they have them for a reason and it usually is reputation for good work and warranty.
  7. I was there yesterday for a few hours and only saw 5 trout fromt the low water bridge north. I made comment on a thread awhile back that this creek is in serious need of enforcement. Shame its a beautiful creek that could be a great trout fishery.

Ok so the record is only for the method he caught it using, as the state record is much larger. Large fish certainly, A record by state standars for the type of gear but to me I just keep asking myself should these un-attended methods be even put on the books? Not knocking this guy or his fish but to me a "angling" record should be for a person who is using a Rod- Reel and Line they are in control over. It could be with live bait to a lure but should be fore rod , reel and line imo.
  9. Branson is a Jewel with no questiosn. The shows are ok certainly not Broadway but patriotic and country which makes up for a-lot. Dinning there are so many places I couldnt even start to tell you where to go. But the shops are all great places to walk around in, The Christmas Village as my wife calls it will take you several hours at minimum and worth it. The landing is great at night, combined with Taneycomo and Tablerock lakes there is so much to do. We all know on vacations we will spend money and are suppose to be having fun. The Ozarks offer more things to do then many places. Sure go to California and see Hollywierd and the Beachs. The beach gets old quick, Hollywierd attractions are for more expensive and traffic will cut into people vacation time and add frustrations. A traffic jam in the ozarks is a cow on the road which makes you laugh. Enjoy your vacation time and have fun its a great place to visit.
  10. I like the tidemasters I have two of them and they are great casting and fighting rods. Why I choose Shimano is simple, They work and they last! I have caught numerous Bill Fish, Tarpon, Redfish, Sharks and a host of others on them. They cast super smooth and the drag system is smooth as glass. I have seen Ambassodors break down and even impload on big fish. The best reel IMO ever made is a Jigmaster 500 but that reel is overkill in freshwater and the Shimano's are its equal. My Cardif has landed Sails and lots of them it was my go-to reel for surface feeders and never let me down.
  11. I wish Quail would come back strong, But I do not see it happening. The above ground predators are a factor but now tack in the Raptors. I watched several quail taken last year on Shawnee by raptors. Then tack on the insane hunting presure they get and I highly doubt they will come back. We had perfect breeding conditions this year so I expect to see more. Unfortunately closing hunting at noon or 1pm doesnt help when I see guys running 4 pointers or even more over the same area every day. Sad to say but I do not think until MDC puts serious attention and focus to quail restoration and that probably needs to include closing conservation areas for awhile or shortening the seasons and or days they can be hunted the quail population have little to no chance.
  12. I know Academy Did but nothing about sportsmens and nothing on their site.

  14. Bentonville is one place I target carp on the fly,,, It has a few bass but not many... Crystal has some very nice bass in it but they are hard to catch but when you hit one its normally a nice one. Beware the snakes that place is loaded.
  15. You do know your maters and my walleye fillets would look so good togeather.
  16. Good Points River: I had not even thought about gear fr this topic... For me its St Croix rods, They are very sensitive and without doubt help me detect things better, Line Flourocarbon is my go to over anything else and for reels Shimano is hard to beat ( except the line counters then its Daiwa ) and never skimp on the glasses, the cheap Walley World types do not compare to the higher end glasses for seeing in the water. Also A First Aid Kit is a must always and should be well stocked.
  17. Prairie Creek, Monte Ne, Beaver Shores, Lake Atlanta, Lake bentonville, Crystal Lake. Little pond next to I40 behind Buffalo wild wings( beware momma goose here she is a pistol). And last but certainly not least Little Sugar creek.
  18. You may want to rent a boat at a marina to start getting to know the lake so when you get a boat you know where to go. I know the striper guides who read but dont post here will hate this but ( when you find them and they are easy to spot fish around that area as that is where the stripers are ) Show respect and stay a respectable distance so you do not bother them as they do have clients and have to make a living, but it should give a shot at stripers.
  19. Joined it years back and quickly found out its a joke like Stone said.. Spend your money on SOMETHING ELSE! You want to really spend money on something good and of Michael Folkes <sp> Videos are good, Tribute to Tuna is good Tribute to Wahoo was way cool seeing a wahoo come 30ft out of water.
  20. Nice fish, But is it a State record for trot or for fish? Im a little confused as to where it falls for records Trot, Fishing, size etc.
  21. When I started it was much like Bill, not a whole lot of information in print and certainly no internet. My teachers were family and friends. As I grew older I had the honor and privilege of meeting and fishing with many sport fishing captains and guides. The simplest baits on the planet were and still are live baits. Catching your own bait or buying it was part of fishing. I learned how to use them, there is so much more to it than just pinning them on a hook and tossing them out but in its simplest form it’s the simplest bait! Lures were simple crank baits and black plastic worms. I still fall back on those when all else fails. I guess the simplest way to catch fish is Live bait, toss it out behind the boat and drop it in the rod holder it will sooner or later catch you a fish. While it is there find a lure you want to learn how to fish and start practicing with it. But the best advice I can give you is never fall into a set mold of ( this is how you have to or should fish this bait ) Experiment play around and have fun! Make the lure and technique your own and be confident in it. Confidence in and of itself will catch you fish. Good Luck.

  23. I have been thinking about this today and here is my opinion, If you are moving the lure with an artificial power then it is trolling. There are many types of trolling and controlled drifting. But for the limited discussion of this specific topic (tournaments) then it is my opinion that for tournaments any type of mechanical aid in moving lures along is trolling.
  24. Last I heard it was trolling and wasnt legal for tourneys, I have seen it myself in several of the last ones on Beaver. I just dont care about tourneys enough to say anything plus you have to prove they were doing it and were in the tourney.
  25. I just saw this post sorry I missed it. Im working on a couple articles that will give much more information on trolling vs drifting. Not sure when I will have them posted. But the short answer is unless you are in water over 50ft drifting will beat trolling all day long. And even at that trolling the big motor you need to set your baits back much further then most people think. Minimum 100 ft.
