  3. It poured till 10:30 on the lake but when the sun came out so did the geese some of them came way to close and Heavy Shot#4's are not nice at that range.
  4. Hey Road kill pays good money if the fur isn't bad, Coon, Possum, Fox if I see it and its fresh its going to be turned in to cash.
  5. Yes it rained on Beaver and sucked, we need it but it could of held off till tonight. BTW there are a few less geese on the lake now
  6. Across this Nation tomorrow many will take to the fields as generations before have done. Some will be bringing new pups of men and dogs to the field to pass along our rich heritage, others getting together with friends as they have for years past. This is a magical time of year that to most of us meant the coming of age that time in life where we were boys no more but men even if not yet of age to be thought of as such. It is a changing of a season and unwritten season not of Summer or Winter nor Fall or Spring. Though Spring would best describe it as it is a time of renewal for many of us and a time of blossoming for many new to it. Tomorrow is Opening Day of hunting season! Millions will take to the fields for Dove and some lucky few for Geese. Tomorrow is the day that many of us will pass on the history and heritage of Hunting to a new generation and share stories of past hunts with old friends. To this I say to all, remember those who taught you and shared with you this great tradition, Honor them by telling those new to it about them. Honor the traditions, game laws and Game we pursue. God protect us all look after us all and let us get to and from the fields safe. Good luck to all and God Bless all.
  7. After watching the SEC this week here is how I see it shaping up for the west. Texas A&M is scary looking and seem to be firing on a level that if they stay out of injuries and maintain this level will be in the final 4. 11/1 Auburn looked midlevel in the first quarter but adjusted at the half and only got better possible final 4. 10/2 Ole Miss is going to give people fits and will probably get a bowl game they have a d-line and passing game the run is questionable. 9/3 maybe even 11/1 and final 4 LSU had some major issues and an SEC team will make them pay they got lucky to win that game and will not make final 4 but get a lesser bowl 8/4 Miss State last night just kept getting better and looks like the sleeper team people talked about , Probable good bowl 8/4 Arkansas they might get better as the season progress's and a team who cant pass will be eaten alive by them but the D-secondary sucked 3/9 Bret will have to wait till next year for an SEC Win. Also if he cant get a SEC win by midway through next season he will be FIRED. I really don't think his Northern style will work in the south just to many great coaches and to much power players. I am concerned about this playoff thing, I saw a lot of very promising teams this weekend and some schedules who could put many at 11-1 10-2 and doubt the 4 team playoff works it will have to end up being 8 teams. I just see no way to do it any other way. What happens is 3 SEC schools get voted in? or 2 ACC 2SEC and worse what if either of those happen and a big 10 school has a better record but weeker strength of schedule is why they got left out?
  8. Well, Hogs 0-line looked good for the first half, nothing new there! The D-line looked good in the first, nothing new there! The secondary D looked horrible, Really nothing new there!! In closing Same team Just bigger more running more dropping and same old loosing!! !! !!
  9. Yes he is. I couldn't believe he said that looking over the Aggies schedule. To say any SEC school had a light schedule is just stupid. When he said it I looked up their schedule over the last two year in 2012 they lost to LSU and Florida both recent National champs, But the Aggies Beat the Sooners in the Cotton Bowl no easy task. In 2013 they lost to Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Mizzou. But beat Duke in the Chiky bowl. I guess if your going to play Barely Div 1 Schools and loose to them it should be just Barely Div 1 schools who have all only won the National Championship or played for the SEC Title. I laughed so hard.
  10. According to Spurrier the Aggies had been playing "barely Division I schools" I guess the GC's are in that list now also.
  11. I do not buy the report one bit. PERHAPS 15 years ago this paper might have had validity but with the changes in taxidermy and IGFA record submissions I cannot put any stock in this and question the authors motives. For the most part and vast majority most anglers now are using Fiberglass mounts instead of skin mounts so more and more trophy fish are released and most guides I have spoken to on this subject lead anglers that way. the process is simple and the mount last much longer. So there is no need to keep a fish for that reason. As to the IGFA, THIS is the record submission form http://www.igfa.org/images/uploads/files/IGFA%20Record%20Application_2013.pdf you do not need to kill the fish. If you use a store bought scale you will need to send it in and pay to have them certify the scale. Most people I know who trophy hunt know all this information. Now the only downside is requirement for state records of having a Warden see the fish so there is a chance it would be certified world record but not state without a Warden. I would say the report would have been better off to focus on that issue than the IGFA. As to the species on the list many have been on it for some time and are heavily debated as to the cause, reasoning and even method.
  12. What did you ever do to her, We know women hold grudges so spill it maybe we can help you figure out if its flowers or jewelry you need to give her.
  13. Location of where you will be would help
  14. More like Nightmare, im betting at this point all their opponents are now going WTH and having to break out the book. I was thinking a SC had this and at 7 I would be watching Ole Miss.
  15. You are a good man Phil, my condolences to all involved may he rest in peace.
  16. Correct Hog, and of course different regs for different lakes
  17. Ok who are these Aggies, they have a run game and a defense? this could be a interesting, they wernt suppose to go to SC and abuse them like this. is it a fluke 1st quarter or did everyone get to focused on JF leaving and assume the aggies wouldn't be good?
  18. Tebow as a SEC commentator is annoying just FYI but the SEC Network im liking so far. 3 good games on the tube tonight so if ATM is getting Blown out I can flip over to OLE MISS or even Vandy
  19. As a diver and spear fishermen the answer I will give is this on ethics (( we are precise and direct on targeted species we do not catch 40 or 50 fish a day injuring them we take a limit or what we can use and that is it )) Some think its unethical but I have always asked them what is more ethical me taking only what I need or people catching many fish stressing them out and then releasing them some that will die others will die that they couldn't keep because of a size limit. It is IMO no more ethical or unethical then any other type of legal fishing. Perhaps even more ethical as its a direct targeting. As to legality Season & Limits Nongame Fish (Underwater Spear) Underwater spear Area: Impounded waters and temporary overflow of a river or ditch Season Open All Year Harvest Hours: sunrise to sunset Daily Limit: 20 Possession Limit: 40 Additional Information Limit Restrictions The possession limit is twice the daily limit, except the Mississippi River which has a daily and possession limit of 100. Goldfish, bighead carp, common carp, grass carp and silver carp may be possessed in any numbers and do not count in the daily or possession limit. The daily limit is the combined total of all species, except that goldfish, bighead carp, common carp, grass carp and silver carp may be possessed in any numbers and do not count in the daily or possession limit. On the Current River from Cedar Grove downstream to Arkansas line, only 5 hogsuckers may be included in a daily limit. So Catfish and Walleye would be off limits in Mo as they are a game fish according to that. Now in Arkansas they are fair game so where was he fishing?
  20. See James your problem is you are to far from your truck today. I was at the ramp below your truck and saw probably 15 2.5 to 3lb bass just swimming between the docks and if you jumped on them more would come out
  21. Nathan they have to be offshore in that area and its the one flock that is a nightmare to hunt because of the habit of sitting on the parks or in somones yard. I have plenty of others that need to be thinned and a certain farmer who's wife makes awesome peach pie who I need to get at first. Besides taking his grandkids out and seeing the smiles is worth more than a million dollars to me.
  22. He is jealous Nathan, he doesn't get to play as much as you do...
  23. August 28th 2014 It is the last big hoorah of the summer season, but with the storm forecast the lake will either be a crowded or vacant all bets are off. Starting this report off with the Stripers as the top bite again, though im calling it the top bite they are more unpredictable than our weather this year. At least with them though, if you can find them they are biting well. The zone is large from the Dam to Coppermine and has many anglers scratching their head as to wear to go, so let me try and break it down by school size and activity. Thanks to many people reporting in this week here is how it shapes up. Coppermine; the school is biting from 5am till about 8 possibly 9am and it does have some top water action but most fish are caught on Flicker Shad or Brooder minnows. As of right now Damsite is not carrying them so your Bait will have to come from HLS in Rogers it appears for brooders ( thanks to Jim at the damsite store for that update on brooders). The size of fish in this school is smaller 6 to 10lb class with a couple of 15’s thrown in the mix. Rocky Branch to Point 4; These as well are a morning bite starting as early as 3am, I talked to a couple nice people who said they had shad swarm under the lights and then had stripers come in on them and got a couple. They also said at first light the fish were surface busting schools, they had 4 fish from 15 to 25lbs and they were nice fat bellied fish. They were using shad they caught under the light. Dam area; these fish have been unpredictable at best for many anglers but one theme is 30ft depth at or just above the thermocline, pulling Bomber Long A’s or Umbrella rigs, some using brooders or shad. Walleye; It’s a summer pattern bite 25 to 40fow near the channel and at the tips of long points. Preferred bait of choice is still crawler harness both Bead and Blade or Floating with Blade, Slow Death rigs also producing. The spoon bite just has never materialized this year. Best area to look has been from 12 bridge all the way down the old river channel to Starky, I know it’s a big area but people are getting them by putting in the miles and hours. With the rain prediction if it comes true and we have it plus generation think about looking on flats where bait will pass over and open water humps. White Bass; It sounds like a broken record but 12 bridge still! Next area is a nice school showing up at Rocky Branch area, and another near Clifty that all seem to be willing to bite at one point during the day, you just have to find them and stay on them till they decide to bite. This is the spoon bite when deep and when they come up Flicker Shad and Rattle traps seem to be working well. Don’t expect a lot of them but a few to pull your line. Catfish; Trot line, jugline and even a few pole fishermen are getting them on Liver, Goldfish and Nightcrawlers. Best areas seem to be Horseshoe bend, Prairie Creek and Rocky Brach areas. Bass; Everett Classic is coming up and no one is talking much, Now that said the Hickory creek tourney last week took almost 18lbs to win with the top 3 place all over 15lbs and that boys and girls means a river bite and some big fish. Also as we all know River fish can bite for 30 minutes a day and you can drop a grenade on them and they will just give you the fin. If you must go bass fishing My top bet would be finding open water humps and try to spoon or dropshot smallies in the clear end of the lake. Rocky Branch to the Dam. Two things to know Goose Season opens Monday and Teal opens the 13th, so if you see hunters show them respect and stay out of the decoys and area not only is it respectful it’s the LAW. And to hunters do not coral birds or run up in people yards to scare them out it is illegal as well. Also remember 150 yards from a house with a gun so be sure of where you are at. Lastly if you are purchasing minnows be ready to put them in the shade and keep them cool they will NOT live long in this heat. Also DO NOT add city water to your minnows it can kill them. Tips would be; Keep them in an aerated container of some type that is insulated Fill 16oz water/soda bottles with water the day before you get bait and add 1 bottle every 3 hours or more often if needed to keep the bait cool and lively If keeping them longer than one trip bring them in the house to help keep them cool and feed them fish food just like you would pet fish and change the water daily with lake water or you can buy stabilization additives. Good Luck everyone https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856?hc_location=timeline
  24. Florida Fish don't count they are paid by the Florida Department of Tourism to bite to hook fishermen on coming back spending more money. Quill, I throw very few of them but I like the rip pause approach twitch twitch pause Rip and repeat it seems to work.
