  1. I have went twice, trying to remember the name of the outfit we used. It went all of the way up to the continental divide. It was really neat. They offered snomobile, dogleds, and other snow type excursions. I will try to remeber the name of the outfitters, but I do recomend trying it. The 'sleds' had heaters on the handles to keep your hands warm along with the leg area.
  2. I live about 30 miles south of St Louis, last nigt around 10:00, I looked at the moon. There was a very large halo around it. The moon was perfectly centered, there were no clouds blocking the sight, just a really neat looking halo. It is very hard to judge how large it was, but it was not just a few inches in perspective, it was a few feet. Armed with my cell phone, I took a picture. Although I know enogh that the moon is not easily photographed without the proper equipment, I still tried. (did't work well) Neat photos of the planes' chem trails, or what ever you may call them. I would imagine the noise was offsetting also.
  3. What is wrong with the law that states you can kill any animal if it is a direct threat (paraphrasing)? That is all that we need. There is really no reason I can see to kill an animal that has no nutritional value, nor usefull value by being dead. (pardon the wording, I am trying to say I understand pelt trapping, the pelts are able to be used for more than bragging rights.) I really don't believe we need new laws, lets try enforcing the ones we currently have. I really don't see where political party has much to do with this. ( I don't claim any party myself )
  4. That is AMAZING! Very nice work. You have a gift and are using it for the right cause. Keep it up and you will continue to be rewarded.
  5. Do you mind disclosing your source for the "reasonable" okoume? I have been trying to debate making a quick and dirty canoe just to play on the creeks in my area, I am still leaning on using 1/4 ply and a ton of water seal. (along with plenty of foam)
  6. Quite a few years ago you could not convince me that I did not see a Mountain Lion/Cougar/Puma in St Francois State Park. It was in the late morning/early afternoon. I was hiking a trail not too awfully far from the camp sites. I had my son, nephew and neice all under 10. We were making lots of noise and on a very well travelled trail. I was looking for anything I could point out to the kids and as I glanced here and there, I seen a large cat. No spots just a beautiful tan coat and perked ears. Now, first thing that flashed in my mind was fear/defense. I quickly looked for an out, and a large solid stick. Surveyed where the kids were, and were camp was as I estimated where we could go. Just as I seen what I thought would be the planed retreat, I looked back toward the cat, and it was not there. No noise, no obviously disturbed area where it was standing, just gone. The trees were small but tall, and I am not sure that they would have held the large cat. I don't know where it went, or how quickly it could have left. I never reported it formally, and now wonder if it was a mirage, a bobcat, or what. Just my own account of an experience I have had. P.S. We did not see anymore wildlife on that hike. We did continue and ending up off of the trail we started on and on a larger loop. But the kids still enjoy hiking.
  7. WOW!! Thanks for the topic request. I will have to favorite/follow this one for future reference. I am always willing to learn the basics, over and over again. Seems that that is always what works. Keep up the good info guys. The weather's gettin warmer, wont be long, 'till summer comes back again....
  8. I think you may be on to something. I fully agree with the thoughts you have presented. I don't get to fish much right now, but I will definitely talk around to others and see if anyone else has experienced these types of thoughts.
  9. You got to stand for something or youll fall for anything. If you have a problem with it, don't support it or those who use it. I have not heard about this until these forums. I am not sure that I would use it. I have been known to use multiple hooks at different levels while catfishing. ( I know the origin of this post is due to competition for bass) I fish mostly for fun. There have been times when I have caught alot of fish in one day, and while I remember those days, I enjoy the days when I catch just a few hit and miss. I have enjoyed seeing the thoughts posted on this topic. Please obey the laws in your state. The conservation departments do alot to make sure that we will have these opportunities for a long time. When we do not obey the laws, bad things happen, even if we don't get caught.
  10. I am interested in watching this thread. I have no experience myself, but recently aquired a jonboat and some thigh high waders. I am looking to expand my catch also.
  11. My TRUE home water was Boathouse, and Horshoe Lakes in Carondalet Park in St Louis City. Homes of the yellow belly cat, and carp. Now they are Joachim Creek and Al Brown Lake in Festus, MO. Looking to expand my horizons again this year. Have a couple spots on the Big River, and Meramec that I am planning on visiting. Have been to Roaring River, did the trout fishing, have caught good size pond bass, but still have the deepest respect for 'ole Gran-daddy catfish.
  12. I really appreciate the site. I am to new to really remember what the original layout was like to be able to compare. Thank you for making this for all to use. I don't use it enough to give any real tips, but that being said I have always liked to be able to select how many replies per page/topic. If it is an option, that would be a request from me. Thank you again for such a quality site.
  13. Here is a link on youtube that shows how they built a flat bottom. It is quite lenghthy, and detailed. I plan on using this idea to make a boat out of some scrap plywood that I have aquired. I will be using some fiberglass resin on the outside, I would like to paint it also. My question is can I put paint on top of the resin? Does anyone have experience? I guess I could as you paint a car after glassing it..... I plan on using some oops paint from the local box hardware. I know that using marine grade plywood will be better quality and last longer, but this is more of a "see if I can do it" project. , here is another cool idea I have found on youtube, The videdo really starts about 2:30. Read the description. Kinda neat to find this showing some local folks on the tube.
  14. Thought this would be a good place to put my first post. I am a fisherman on a budget, (time and money). I grew up fishing local ponds in St Louis, and Mississippi River downtown. I enjoy Missouri State parks and the waterways in the St Louis/Jefferson County vicinity. I truly appreciate any tips that can be given.
