  1. I believe it is the whole trip wrapped up that counts. Quality and quantity are the bonus. Your mention of the eagle is what I mean. If you didn't catch any, you still got to see something that tickles. Did you get to learn something that made you wonder if you have been "doing it all wrong before"? I usually do. They say it's the journey and not the destination. I agree with them. DC
  2. So, here is my report. I was not fully aware that I would not be able to fish. You see, we were renting rafts. The bus pulled up and was ready to pick us up from oursite. I turned around to get my rod and tackle and was asked by the driver of the bus/shuttle if I I was using one of the rafts. I answered yes, and he said no go. The rafts don't do well with hooks and other pointy things. Hit me like a brick wall. I knew that..... so, short story long, I didn't wet a line. There were not many floaters besides our group. Many jet boats, and the majority of them were very courteous, and friendly. The water was very cold. Seen alot of minnows, and tadpoles. Not many fish. Next float, I will be in a canoe. DC.
  3. Chief, that made me smile. Glad to hear that you guys are able to be civil, after all of the things you went through. Now about the "old heads" comment.....
  4. I plan on being with the crowd everyone complains about while floating. I will be partaking in the party atmosphere. No kids, so we can let our guard down. I will be trying to catch a fish, while hollering for another beer. Lol. No, I will be responsible, and kind as I always am. I will enjoy a few cold ones, and hopefully I will have a few pictures to share.
  5. Snagged, what is a plastic stick bait?
  6. Going to go on a float trip this weekend with a whole lot of drinkers. I plan on wetting a line, but don't really expect to catch much as it will be near 100 degrees. Planning on using a spinning outfit. What would you use? Never been on the current, and will not be keeping anything. I am as happy to catch rough fish as I am a 7 lb bass. Using Eminence Canoes and Cabins for the float. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
  7. Wow, that was very interesting. I have always believed the meaning of life is to be happy. That's it.
  8. We just called it primitive camping. Usually with tents. Can be fun, and miserable at the same time. I am not a luxury camper, but I do appreciate running water nearby.
  9. Went fishing this evening. The first cast was about 7:30 pm. Plenty of light. The sun was still bright. I was fishing a small creek, shall not be named. (If you must know, pm me. ) I was able to catch a small spotted bass on a Rick Clunns diver. Slowly dragging the bottom. Had a couple more strikes, but they were small fish. Seen a gar swimming right by me, didn't seem to be bothered by me. Later I started throwing a Zarra Spook Jr. Been reading alot about top water and walk the dog lures. I had alot of small fish tapping at it, but nothing much bigger than the lure itself. Then I seen a couple blows on it (nothing large by any means). I had a large rock 20 feet before a riffle and kept working around it. Patience paid off, a large grab, not a blow up. Took it down , set the hook and had some slack in the line. Was bringing the fish in, seen it, not large but very dark. Then it spit the hook and showed me it's tail. Nothing the rest of the night. Learned a few things tonight. I need to fish more often. You see, the fish I caught this evening was on the same lure I caught a crappie on year ago on father's day. Still tied on with the same knot. Also, I used it at the OAF Tournament. I learned by watching Macsimus a better way to cast. He was nice enough to let me on his boat the last two years at the tournament. I only fish a few times per year and I am usually with kids. I got myself into a rut and didn't know any better. Now I feel like I can cast a country mile. Tight lines.
  10. Seeing is believing. Thanks,all.
  11. Thanks for sharing your trips.
  12. I've seen a couple of them on trailers. Never seen one on the water.
  13. Me too brother, that's what keeps me going. Lol, maybe I'm just crazy.
  14. A couple years ago, someone took a troop out on a similar float. Check the boards, search boy scouts. Sounds like a great time.
  15. Great product, excellent service.
  16. I am entertained by the way people flop on both sides of the topic. Not any person, just the whole forum. One day, it is said that we need to share as much as possible, because the fish won't be there tomorrow. Then we say, no, loose lips sink ships. I get out about 4 times a year. I really enjoy reading every thing people offer. I understand the possible impact, but also when you consider the larger reservoirs, it is really minimal. How many fish get taken by the pros? They "know best" . They can't catch fish alot of the time, how would some weekend warriors clean out the lake? All of the electronics give way more info than these reports. Ducky Doty did an expirament a few years ago, and it turned out opposite of what most would expect. He was looked down on, but I thought it was a great try. The smaller creeks, and rivers, I totally understand need to be protected. But the larger lakes, I really don't believe are under that great of pressure. Most of the posts are talking about pleasure boaters and not fishermen as far as the influx of boats. Thanks to all who have posted information to assist others. Hey, the basics are all that are asked for. That and respect.
  17. Wonder if the rocks are used to break up the food similar to how birds do. Not sure why just green sunfish would need the assistance of the rocks.
  18. Awesome catching there Cal. Looks like fun. Thanks for sharing them with us down here.
  19. Have fun, be safe and report back. Keep a nightly journal.
  20. Congrats, my youngest is six. I should be able to get back out on the water soon. Lol
  21. Still available?
  22. Turns out that I no longer have a place to store it. Sorry, I took a while to reply. Wanted to line things up before possible purchase . Sounds like a great deal, maybe someone else will be able to benefit.
