  1. I try to stay out of these conversations. That being said, the question that follows is not a stab at anyone, anything, or to be taken personally or politically. We are constantly updating our technology and admitting that yesterday's technology is not accurate. How can we really trust the information that has been recorded 100 years ago, and compare it to the information we collect now? When doing science experiments you need to keep all items consistent, except for controls. I am not sure we are comparing apples to apples.
  2. Best of luck. Sorry to hear about your dad, glad to hear he got to pass at home. I believe as you, he will be with you. I have not shot anything with a bow besides targets and backstops, can't be of any help in that area. Practice before you go out, you lose a lot just in one year, not to mmention 20.
  3. A little far for me, I really am glad that you are posting this. I am very active in scouting with my two boys. Any of you all that are close to the area, you cannot get a better feeling than helping these kids. Get out and help.
  4. My visit to Montauk last year turned out the same as your Bennett Springs trip. I feel your pain, seems to me fishing stories are similar to gambling stories, you only hear about the positive trips. Keep your head up, keep your line wet, have fun doing it. Don't take these negative posts to heart, I have to admit, I wondered in the beginning, but your adventures are interesting.
  5. There are a ton of them in the public pond in Festus. They come up at dusk, too many to count. Carondelet park in south St Louis used to have quite a few. One of the best baits we used was whole kernel corn, we dipped it in imitation vanilla. They give one heck of a hit, so don't lay your rod down, pole holders and drag are your friends. Don't yank them to hard to set the hook, you will rip it out of their mouths.
  6. I went fishing this evening, had a few hours after work while the wife and kids were out at her friends house. I have a park with 3 small ponds. I know that one is stocked, it is connected to another via a overflow with a driveway going in between. I started fishing in the "stocked" pond, using my nearly new Pflueger reel, and 10 pound test P-line CXX. ( 8 was the advice given on the forum, but 10 was all I could find local, they were out of 8 and I was ansy. Not a fan of X-marts). I have not bought a decent rod, but had one that would work for the time being. I have used this setup probably a total of 4 times at 1 hour per time, and 10-20 minutes of actual fishing. I have 3 kids (4, 7, and 14), and they get lots of snags. Back to the fishing, I had one on, a small bass right about 10 feet from me. I go to set the hook, and it gets off. I am using Chompers Green pumpkin Ultra Tube Garlic and Salty. This was the only action from this pond, along the rock bank. I went to a less fished pond, it is used as a runoff pond and full of Carp. I got down to the pond around 6:15 and the carp were feeding on the top, they were not even spooked by me. I casted for about 15-20 minutes along the banks, across the pond, around some trees, nothing. My wife calls, we're talking about what went on throughout the day, then wham!, I caught one, a nice one. Been a long time since I had this kind of pull on the line. I was very happy, told the wife I had to call her back. Took a few pics and his is swimming as I type. .....tried multiple times, but apparently my pics are too large. It was right at 16 1/4" , nice fish and I hope to catch more.
  7. cool, thanks for letting me know.
  8. Where would you get a 30 amp breaker for a trolling motor? I am guessing it's a specialized part. I am asking because I only use a trolling motor on my 10 foot Lowe flat bottom and have read about the need before.
  9. Beautiful area, lots of people, but you can find somewhere to get away from the crowd. Check out elephant rocks park also.
  10. Good for you, Clay. That little girl looks so much at peace. Now, hopefully for you she grows up and helps with maintaining her new best friend.
  11. x2 well said, keep us posted with all activity.
  12. I have never been pinched by a crawfish/crawdad but that one would worry me. Do they not pinch as hard as I'm thinking they would?
  13. Thank you for the waders and boots, great price and shipped fast, packed well. Daryk.
  14. -2 you have been zeroed out.... Love that one. Good job Ness.
  15. Until you know how well it runs, and you are comfortable with it, go up river, not down. This way if something goes wrong the current will bring you back. Some of the best advice I was ever given.
  16. You will have great karma, maybe the agent will call you and remove the citation. My friend and I were fishing as teens, got checked, his license was expired, he didn't realize it, and was ticketed. The following day the agent called my buddy ad told him not to worry, the ticket was being dismissed.
  17. Just remember this, there are many more good people than bad. We just have a hard time spreading the good stories. Sucks for this to happen, but think of how many people passed your boat with no intent on removing anything. The odds are still in your favor. Hopefully those who are involved get caught.
  18. I have done business with Joe, got quality stuff for a more than fair price. Hope all's well with you Joe.
  19. NICE!! That is cool. I really hope my kids think of me that way when I am older. What am I saying, they already do. I get to fish 2 times a year with the kids for sure, Fathers day, and my birthday. Good on you, Glory Daze.
  20. Luckily for me, your not near me. I would have some explaining to do. .. hope you sell it soon.
  21. Sawyer mini is a great water purifier. It works similar to the lifestraw, but with less limitations. About $20.00 depending on where you go. I got a 4 pack on ebay for $17.00 each after shipping.
  22. That is a nice buffalo.
  23. Can anyone direct me to an outfit that would rent a boat/trailer combo in the St Louis Area, or just a boat on a lake? I rented a pontoon at Lilley's and the family had a blast. Wanted to know if there was anyone in this area that rented. Thanks for any input. I am aware of the canoe/raft rentals, but I want a boat. A couple hours away is not a problem, just do not have the time to go to The Rock/ Lake O, etc.
  24. About the WD40, a guy on YouTube actually contacted the manufacturer, and asked them if it contains fish oil, if they recommend it, so on. According to him ( muddy river catfishing) it is legend, WD40 is not really making any difference. I haven't tried it, and I cannot be sure one way or another, but I do not want to pollute any waters with any additional toxins. Check out his video, he is a down to earth guy, he gives a lot of tips for catching catfish, and other species. He also sponsored a kid's fishing day in his area for kids that have not fished before, supplied rods, reels, tackle, bait etc. Hijack over. Daryk
