  1. Doubtful. It always got grim up there once it got cold. Winter Smallie fishing in rivers is an Ozarks thing. Ya gotta have fairly clear water or you're probably gonna get skunked. As long as it stays warm enough to wet wade up there you're good to go. I don't ever remember a day in waders where I did very good.
  2. My first good paying job was started in 1983 (Schatz Underground const.) Started at 8.00/hr. and by the end of my second year with them I was at 14.50 plus perdeium. They are a good company that really knows how to treat their employees that show up and care about the work they do.
  3. Not the first for me either, although that's definitely the biggest I've seen from there. My point was that your odds of having a day of good Smallmouth fishing are way WAY better above the lake.
  4. Me three. I don't think I would have known. The Little Niangua supposedly has Spot/Smallie hybrids but I've never been able to pinpoint one. Do the hybrids still have the dimples on their lower jaw like Smallies? I have caught a few "smallmouth" that lacked those little lower jaw divets.
  5. They are gonna mess around and get airguns put in the same category as firearms if they don't quit. Won't be anymore ordering them online and having them shipped to your door. I don't think that big bore airguns will ever be anything I care to own.
  6. Wouldn't ya know it.
  7. Flouroclear is a "co-polymer" line. Flourocarbon coated monofilament. I actually liked it before P-Line CX Premium came along (which is also a co-poly). All 100% florocarbon gets kinks, especially in the cold. Nature of the beast I think. I still like it better than mono because of its abrasion resistance and slightly lower stretch.
  8. I caught a big ol' Northern Pike below the re-reg once. No kidding. Estimated 12 lbs. but I probably suck at eyeballing Pike. Nevertheless it was a biggun.
  9. Exactly! Right there in the tailwater amongst the drum and the carp.
  10. Listen, I'm having a hard enough time trying to communicate with this yayhoo.... Don't do this.
  11. Are you drunk? Look at me! There are NO F#&@!#& SMALLMOUTH DOWNSTREAM OF CANNON DAM, so there's dam sure none below the re-reg. THEY ARE ALL ABOVE THE LAKE! Got it? Jesus Christ !
  12. No worthwhile populations of Smallies below Cannon dam. Not that I am aware of anyway. The tribs above MT lake do, and the beginning of the Salt River USED to before Cannon dam was built. Buzzards Roost was a really good stretch....back in the day.
  13. I grew up on the Salt and its tribs. The Elk fork in it's entirety, and the upper portion of Middle Fork (above Paris) have some excellent stretches of smallmouth water scattered along their length. They flooded the decent Smallie holding portion of the Salt River when MT was impounded and anything below the dam is unlikely to hold enough SM to make it worthwhile, but the LM fishing is good. Look for areas with rock on both sides of the river. Gravel or rock on one side and mud on the other is no good. Rock on one side and gravel or rock on the other.... you're in business
  14. I don't see any Kentucky in that toad. Looks all Smallie to me. Nice one !
  15. All those stories don't end bad. I hooked a boat up once and set my phone on the bumper of the truck. It rode 40 miles without falling off. While I was launching, it rang, I picked it up and it was my wife. "What are you doing? I called like 5 times and you didn't answer". Uh....I was driving. "Oh, well you're a good boy for not talking on your phone while driving".
  16. The ones from the custom shop are supposed to be "improved" in the power category somewhat. To take them further is probably at the cost of accuracy. Doesn't matter how powerful it is if it shoots grapefruit sized groups. I got turned off by CO2 stuff when I was younger, bought a fairly expensive Beeman and took it bullfroggin'. The first frog I shot at the pellet bounced off his head. I was pretty disgusted with it. I've been assured that the 2300KT from the custom shop will have plenty of short range punch for cottonmouths/copperheads, bullfrogs and the like.
  17. Not to mention that anything Rapala is usually too light to throw on sturdy tackle.
  18. I've been on the Crosman custom shop site for hours. Just spent 368.00 Oh well, ya only live once, right?
  19. Nobody should be paying tax on their income IMO. As a matter of fact I think It is technically unconstitutional to force it unless unless your income is derived from other countries (those who import/export). I read an article by someone credible that proved there was no law that says our income should be taxed if it comes from within the United States. Is that true, Gavin?
  20. If it will suspend horizontally, then yeah! They never let the dang thing pause even for a second through that whole video.
  21. We can take care of ourselves. The Lord needs to spend less time taking care of US and more time helping all the sick and suffering children in the world whose parents are praying their asses off. Doesn't it make it kinda hard to enjoy the blessings we have and the glory of the almighty when others around us are hurting so badly ? It sure does for me. While you are chewing on a tasty squirrel, thousands upon thousands are chewing their toenails just for a little protein, and drinking their own piss just to stay alive. You're a good fisherman and a skilled hunter.....give credit where credit is due.
  22. Hasn't been a banner one for me either. Blamed it on low water mostly.... but that's undeniably a cop out.
  23. You're bluffing. Drop some names.
  24. Oh I don't think you'd wanna enter into a river fishin competition with Al. If he knew he had to catch'em I bet he could put a hurtin' on ya. I feel like I'm pretty much a seine, but if I was fishing against ol'Al I'd be pretty nervous.
  25. I am a spot pounder. The thought that I am leaving fish behind simply because they won't bite what I have tied on at the moment haunts me. I'll give it a short rest and then make another pass doing things differently, then I might even make a 3rd pass if I still feel there's a decent chance. The thought that someone could come right behind me and immediately stick a couple is a serious threat to my ego. Obviously a carry-over from my competitive days. Once I've settled on what I feel is a good pattern, like ok all the better ones are holding in tailouts, or around wood, or on bluffy big rock areas, THEN I can cover some miles. But until I have something dialed in it might take me half a day to cover 2 miles of river.
