  1. All that up and down just ain't worth it from my perspective. Poor ol' Mike's knees are gonna be shot in a couple years. Crappie just aren't worth all that IMO. I load the freezer when they are along the bank and easier to get to in the Spring, then I leave them be. They don't fight hard, don't jump....I just don't get the fascination so many have for Crappie that they'll chase them all year long. I guess they just get addicted to the "tick". How many can you possibly eat? Have at 'em. I ain't doing 400 squat-thrusts for a dozen crappie.
  2. 7 grandkids! Holy smokes. I don't envy your Christmas shopping outlay. Congratulations!
  3. Brent is a really good guy, I played guide for him and my old buddy Jim Karr many years ago. I still recall all the old "Hammer and Sickle" jokes that we're flying around that weekend between them. Those two were some heavy debaters but it always remained classy and good natured.
  4. The pin is splined on one side, so beat it out with a drift punch from the opposite side. When reinstalling... beat it in the other way so that it cuts new splines on the smooth side. Otherwise it can vibrate out. If you're unsure which is the splined side...it will be the side that has no taper at all (sometimes it is hard to tell and you might have to beat it a little one way or the other just to be sure). Whatever you do, DO NOT try to beat the splines all the way through or you'll jack up the mount beyond repair.
  5. Hell to the yes !
  6. Yeah, please post 'em up. Thanks.
  7. The fish that move into the spring branch are not from way up, or way down river. They are the resident group (30-40 Smallies + a couple buckets full of goggleye) that lives within a stones throw of the confluence, and they've seen plenty of pressure all year long for their entire lives. It's truly no different than any other wintering hole. Most of the Smallies are 10-14" but of course there is a small handful of better ones. Keep in mind that you are restricted to "flys" only. Now, if you could go in there with a HD craw, slider worm, or a Senko then you might be able to actually do some significant damage.
  8. It was dead calm this evening, so here's what my ballistics look like At 50 yards these 14.3gr. pellets failed to fully penetrate fresh 1/2" plywood so I didn't bother taking a 60 yard shot. From 20-45 yards I'm dead on within a dime, but at 50 my best groups are a little over 3". It's amazing what a difference 5 yards can make. As the pellets lose velocity they start to wander quite a bit. Or so it seems. Do you think a heavier pellet will tighten up my 50 ? I'd really like to be able to shoot a good 50 yard group.
  9. According to all the videos and forums a spring piston gun is hold sensitive and shouldn't be left cocked for long periods. I have no patience for crap like that. My Gamo gas piston gun doesn't care how it's held, you can slap the trigger if you want or have the barrel pinched against a tree trunk, it doesn't care. POI is wherever the crosshairs are at when the pellet leaves the muzzle. Either those guys are high on crack or I don't want anything to do with true "springer's". I really don't want a gun that has to be gently massaged into a G-spot orgasm before it will hit where I'm aiming. Screw that!
  10. Oh Sweet ! Yep, you're ate up with it. I'm going to attempt to control myself, we'll see how that works out. I doubt that I'll ever get caught up in the PCP thing. No interest in big bore stuff at the present.
  11. River "X" must be a real delicate one. The fear that I just might visit it for an afternoon of C&R has one very well respected person, a guy very much in tune with this states leading fisheries biologists, scared shitless to even drop a hint to me of the watershed it is in. No really! The mere mention of it, even in a soft whisper far from any type of potentially surveiled device, is not even considered. When pressed, he only blushes. I take it as a compliment. He apparently believes that flys from my vise have a mojo unequaled, and that my fishing ability is utterly magical. If I were to know the location of this stretch of water..... it would never be the same again. I am one baaad mofo!
  12. If you spent 10 minutes playing with one you'd be hooked. I'm having way more fun with this thing than I ever did with my big boy guns.
  13. What kinda pressure are we talking with the PCP's ? I assume that my shop compressor (170psi) isn't enough ?
  14. Let's see 'em! I'll be getting at least 2 more I think. One for the kid and another one for me that has a sweet set of irons.
  15. Scored big today. Thanks, Phil. Truly appreciate it. I'll represent proper.
  16. Yeah nobody's boat got finished today, sorry about that. Got her zeroed in tight, and got the trigger set where I like it. Killed a bunch of cans and did some impact testing (that sucker packs a serious punch). Found a muscle in my arm pit that I apparently don't use often enough, feels like it is connected to my balls
  17. First 50 rounds at 25 yards after the scope mounting and sighting-in Shinanigan's. I really REALLY like this gun. Can't wait to play with different pellets. Using Crosman Premier 14.3gr. HP's right now....and they ain't bad by any means.
  18. As long as the fish aren't out suspended I feel like I can keep catching them on it. I'm afraid that once the bass pull off the flat sides of the lake I won't be able to keep the lipless cranks close enough to them. We'll see. I'd sure like to see this Winter stay rather mild.
  19. I kinda expect Gamo and others to offer the 10x system into more models. A repeating break barrel with a fine set of irons would be kinda sweet. No irons at all on the Swarm. Not sure how long the stock scope is gonna last, since the guys that are hip to all of this stuff claim that the stock Gamo scopes are not likely to last very long. I have a few other good scopes laying around but on the Swarm I'm limited in scope length. So I might be scope shopping soon. I have a mediocre Simmons laying around that might work, but the others that I already have are too big I think. There's an old abandoned road where I ride my mountain bike that has some old road signs along it. How much trouble could I get in for swiping those? They'd be perfect material for making some sillouette targets.
  20. Oh don't YOU even start. You're a bigger snob than I am by far. Mr. "Oh you're gear fishing? I believe I'll pass but thanks for the invite".
  21. I've already become a snob about a few things. I can't stand the looks of thumb hole stocks, for one. Or anything "tactical" looking. Also don't care for the scopes with giant oversized turrets, or other frills. If I had that RWS like Oldplugs I would take the scope off and use the irons. It has a really fine set of iron sights on it. I might get one and do just that
  22. When you have a good length of line out (more than 10-15 ft.) a swievel, regardless of how expensive it is, really doesn't help that much. The twist spreads up the line and simply doesn't have enough torque to spin a swievel. By the time it has twisted enough to spin a swievel you're already screwed. The only time I've ever seen a swievel do it's job is on limb lines and trot lines, or maybe when trolling. And of course....on a Spinnerbait.
  23. If you are getting too much twist on your spinning rigs it is likely your casting. You are snapping it too hard and causing your bait to spin too much in the air. Step down one line size and/or have someone punch you in the arm so you can't cast so hard. All that extra casting effort is doing more harm than good.
  24. No we just shot OP's RWS. Nice gun with a sweet trigger pull. The Swarm is supposed to be here Monday. I went to order some pellets through Gamo's site and they tried to rape me on shipping so I backed out. Went to Pyramid Air and they were a LOT more reasonable.
  25. Yep she's all fired up about it now. I think I'll get her one for Christmas.
