  1. Never could warm up to back-reeling, I want my anti-reverse on at all times. Just don't reel against the drag and all is well. I have zero issues with spinning gear and never really understood why some folks just can't cope well with it. It is rare that line twist becomes a problem for me, but when it does I make an average cast and do the counter spin thing. It works for spinning gear and mono/flouro just as well as it does for fly line, but it usually takes about 15 turns whereas with fly line it only takes about 6-8 Most of the twist comes during the cast. Clean up your casting stroke so that your bait isn't spinning like crazy in the air and I think you'll have way fewer problems with spinning gear.
  2. Hop over on the MWBP forum, those guys will have all the info you need on that kinda stuff.
  3. I don't believe any deep fish have moved to the backends yet, but there are always resident fish in the backs that stay there all Summer. I have 4 rods on deck now. A hollow bodied frog, a lipless crankbait, a Jig or big worm for pitchin' to shady spots, and the 4th rod either has a spinnerbait, buzzbait, or a swim jig on it. I just hop from one backend to the next and can usually end up with a 14-16# limit in 3-4 hours. I haven't caught a fish much over 4 in quite a while.
  4. The population of buffalo and gar in the upper Gravois arm of LO was rediculous 4-5 years ago, but now it is more like what I think it should be. Actually I think they still need to kill off quite a few more gar. As long as they don't get bored and start shooting gamefish I'm happy about what the bowfishers have done here. The people that complain about their lights are just looking for something to whine about.
  5. Me too! I just throw a 5 spot in the box and never see anyone except those little Yorkie's, or whatever it is that they breed, down there during the Winter. I don't expect that psycho dingleberry to be around much longer. Eventually (hopefully) somebody is gonna discover where he hides his bodies and he'll get sent away for good.
  6. That's a good one! Meaning he holds onto his soul until dark? Or he comes back to life at dark ?
  7. A teenage friend got bit on the knee by a big snapper. He picked it up by the tail and didn't know they could stick their neck out that far. There was yellow goo oozing out from behind his knee cap, it was gross. I saw one shoot his head out at least a foot to grab a bullfrog, so when I pick one up I hold him as far away from my body as possible. I was always told by my grandpa that if a snapper ever got ahold of you they wouldn't let go until it thundered. Anyone else ever hear that one ?
  8. About 8-9 years ago there was a giant lurking in the pool directly below the whistle. They always look bigger in the water.... but that fish looked as long as my leg. If anyone ever caught it I never heard about it.
  9. Let's not call it a threat, because if the smallie hadn't of been hooked then he probably would not have swam past the turtle. ๐Ÿ˜‹
  10. Everyone is always launching campaigns to get certain groups of people out fishing (to preserve the sport). If you really want to preserve the sport then launch a GIANT campaign to get politicians into fishing. Buy them some good tackle, take them out on free guide trips, take their pics and show them a good time. If our "rulers" cared 1/2 as much about fishing as we do then we wouldn't have all these concerns. They'd see to it that all bodies of water were as fish friendly as possible. So in the name of preserving our sport I think it's time to leave the vets, handicapped folks, and city kids alone for a bit and get all these senator's, commissioner's, and governor's out for a pleasant day on the water. Wouldn't hurt to get the MDC and DNR staff out as well, because I don't think any of them ever do any fishing at all. And they should, shouldn't they ?
  11. Um, he would stop in mid sentence, and interrupt you in mid sentence to wave and say "Hi"...... multiple times. Then bust out laughing (in a total fake laugh) for no reason. Told us that he would let us stay as his special guests but wanted us to know that "people usually reserve these spots up to a year in advance". I told him that I was a local and had been around here probably longer than he had and I know that nobody reserves a camping spot at Ho-Humm. He breaks out into this big fake belly laugh then gets right in my face all confrontational like saying "You sure you got the right place? You sure you got the right place?" then started his crazy fake laughing again. The girls were totally freaked out by him (scared) so I went into defense mode, motioned for them to go get in the truck because he had a hogleg on his hip. I had such an adrenaline rush that I had to pull over to decompress for a minute after we finally got out of there, because if his hand had started moving towards that gun (the holster was snapped) I was gonna rip his throat out before he could get to it. I made sure that I stayed close enough to him to pull that off. Thankfully one of his helpers or something came pulling in and while his attention was diverted towards him I got us the hell out of there. I spoke to a few local folks that are connected with the law and they acknowledged that yeah he's a real freak show, and they told me that he had a confrontation with a road grader operator awhile back and he had supposedly filed for bankruptcy a few months ago. Whatever. That jackass needs to be locked up.
  12. Well, some children can't be reasoned with very easily, and most folks don't have the time or spare change available to quit working and play 24/7 psychiatric head games with a child for 3-6 months in order to get them straightened out. It may seem barbaric and unworthy of respect to some, but if there's one thing that a "free spirited" kid understands....it is pain. It gets the job done and as far as I know it hasn't ruined anyone yet. Kids that are pleasant to be around aren't the ones getting popped upside the head. If your dad/mom has a short fuse then learning to respect that and tow the line is a good life lesson. The word "abuse" needs to be redefined.
  13. Orion had the best time of any of us this trip. He must have swam 20 miles above water, and at least 2 miles under water. His new obsession is diving for mussel shells or any bright white slick rock he can see or feel. Even after sleeping all night he was completely exhausted this morning and was actually eager to come home. I have some video clips of his diving antics, I'll upload to YT later. Crazy dog! The fishing was just So-So. We originally set out to camp at Ho-Humm and fish that stretch but I didn't know that the new guy running that place was a genuine 100% psychopathic weirdo (You are hearby warned ! Stay away from that place until that basturd is locked up, as he is without a doubt unstable as hell). Ended up camped at Riverfront and fishing the extremely low upper end and only had one "good fish" and not all that many short ones over the 3 days. A good time nonetheless, ate like Kings, collected river critters with my youngest kid, and definitely over excersized my velvet-eared best friend.
  14. To test the ignition system you'll need a digital voltmeter with a peak reading adapter (DVA), and some good instructions specific to the system (which I can provide if you get your hands on the voltmeter and adapter). The charging system (stator and voltage rectifier/regulator) can cause the symptoms you describe and it can be tested with any old voltmeter (digital or analog). The cooling system can cause a loss of RPM even if sufficient water pressure appears to be coming from the pee hole or is indicated on a water pressure guage. But first things first....Check compression, because nothing else matters until you verify that.
  15. Yes. It's about 1/2 mile or so above swinging bridge before you start getting into decent smallie water. There is a bridge on C that crosses Deanne cr. and it's a bit of a hike/drag down to where it meets the 'glaize. I did that once and had a blast.
  16. Pretty skinny, but there are some real nice pools. I've actually never floated down it. On small creeks I prefer to work my way upstream, then float back down when I'm done. I just always catch more fish that way (sneaking up from behind). You can Google Earth the bigger pools and plan your float/hike accordingly but there are a bunch of dandy little holding areas smaller than your kitchen in between the obvious pools and honestly they hold better fish than the bigger pools. If you float through them first you pretty much kill your chances of catching the fish that are in them.
  17. By all means never forget THIS one.... Happy wife/happy life, and all that. "James 3:5- โ€œthe tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things."
  18. Boy that was a low budget flick if that's the best rig they could put him in.
  19. More of a wading stream but a yak or solo canoe wouldn't be bad to drag along for crossing the deeper spots.
  20. Need to have a compression test, then an ignition output test. If both of those elements check fine then it is a fuel system or cooling system problem. What size outboard is it ? (2 cyl., 3cyl., 4 cyl., or 5 cyl.?)
  21. He'd appreciate it ๐Ÿ˜Š. He's a good boy.
  22. From my experience MinnKota motors, switches, and circuitry are better, but Motorguide has far better mounts. So if mount issues are what plague you then Motorguide may be your best choice.
  23. I actually wish I had some fuzzy slippers, I ignored a pebble in my shoe for too long yesterday and now have a dime sized blister on my heel. Best fish so far is a 16 incher, but I haven't hit any good stretches yet, just the stuff within walking distance of the campground. Lots of scrappy 10-12 inchers though.
  24. Yeah TM issues are often a hard decision. Once you tear into them you're stuck. A switch replacement or something is one thing, but anything internal (unless you can do it yourself) is often close to 1/2 of the cost of a new one.
  25. You have to have a little drama in your life. Without it all you have is this..... Look how bored they are when they have nothing to complain about.
