If you go by the law of gravity and erosion then the further down a river you go from the headwaters the smaller the stones should be. This would undoubtedly be true and obvious in a canyon river with no other sizable tributaries. No doubt in my mind at all that clear-cutting the hillsides caused an enormous amount of dirt and gravel to fill in the rivers. You'd think though with new growth on the hillsides now that enough floods had happened since the logging days to clear them back out. Eventually I guess it will....or should. I don't think the rivers were ever down to solid bedrock though. Hillsides erode to a degree whether they are covered in growth or not.

Yeah it would be interesting to know, for conversation sake, but seriously....What could you do about it ? There is undeniably a larger amount of Earth that never gets wet because it's covered in concrete and asphalt, but nobody is going to start jackhammering up roads/sidewalks/parking lots and plant grass there anytime soon. ?

? I'm truly not joking. I was moving an engine hoist around awhile back and knocked a big bin of nuts/bolts/washers over on the floor. I totally lost my cool. My wife heard all the crashing, banging, and cussing, and came running out to see who had got killed. I'm standing there on the verge of a meltdown, and she says "CALM DOWN CALM DOWN, I got this, go take a shower". She plopped down on the floor of the shop and calmly sorted that entire mess out.....Took her all evening, and I'm convinced that she enjoyed every minute of it. Maybe for Mother's day I should have my daughter take her enormous necklace/bracelet making bead collection and throw it down the stairs. ??

Any time that rain comes down heavily vs. over a period of time (3 inches in 2-3 days is way different than 3" in 10 hours) there is going to be more runoff. So saying that "on such and such day back in 1945 we got 5 inches of rain" doesn't mean much, and can't be compared to a day where 3" fell in 5 hours and then a few hours later 2" fell in a hour and a half. That's easy to illustrate using a glass of water and a sponge on a tilted cookie sheet. Rainfall is usually recorded over a 24 hour period instead of hourly.

As the current begins to subside after a flood the smaller particles are the last to settle, so it's typical to have sand on top of gravel, and gravel on top of larger rocks. Less dramatic rain events afterwards will wash the sand downhill, leaving gravel and larger stones behind. Billions upon trillions of tons of sand in the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, and it all comes from the smaller tribs.

Yearly Fishing trip - Camdenton area

I've only been chasing Whites lately but I'm hearing about a pretty good topwater bite. It will be another week or more before I get back to messing with the green bass. -
It would probably make her day. ?

Well of course it is. ?

Mideast Part of the State Flooding Too.

My favorite thing to do is wait until a couple of guys hit the like button, and then add in something that would piss them off. ? -
You need my wife there to straighten that out, she loves projects like that. I dumped a big box of hooks from size 22 to size 6, hundreds of each. She sat there and calmly sorted them back out. I would have rather swept them up, thrown them away and bought all new ones. She enthusiastically tackles jobs like that as if they were a giant jigsaw puzzle.

The prisons and county jails are full of guys that could be helping. I'm not sure how it is there, but around here if you just randomly start going up to people offering to help them, you'll get a visit from a deputy questioning your motive. People are scared of strangers these days, in case you haven't noticed. -

Will you quit throwing those down! I've come behind you and tripped over the guilt twice now. I fished today ? (after work) and you're gonna cause me to break a leg. ? -
Nope. Northeast of there.

Ahh, ok. Good! Cuz it doesn't take much pant leg to keep a Ned rig hidden.

Looks really good. ? I'm not a fan of the hidden weight design because it limits your choices of trailers. Do you have. 1/2oz. model that is otherwise? Thx. -
That is some good work, and I'm sure it took some time to compile all that. Thanks Al. I have a hard time assuming the accuracy of the earlier records, especially when you start talking about the late 1800's and early 1900's. Things were pretty "guesstimatory" back then. The only thing they did better back then was make shoes. When was the last time a pair of shoes lasted long enough to be RE-SOLED ? They made some darn good shoes back then, but they were pretty ignorant about everything else.

Calculous! I ain't going there !

I'm afraid so. More than their fair share for sure. ?

The whole "gonna get cancer if I walk out of the house" Shiek look is kinda rediculous to me too. Dude pulls in and hops out of his truck the other day, nothing but his eyes are uncovered, and he says "Hey Glen, the motor is running great now but I think one of my livewell pumps is bad and my onboard charger is being weird....If I bring it up can you check it out today?" I said, Maybe.....Who the hell are you?!! Am I really supposed to recognize people when they are dressed up like Casper the friendly Arabic ghost ? Walk into a bank like that and you'll get shot !

I like short shorts, and I'd still wear them if my wife and daughter wouldn't freak out so bad when I do. Shorts that go down to your knees are stupid. What's the point of just keeping your calves cool? Now you've got dudes wearing long shorts pulled down so their asscrack is showing and the legs of their "Capri's" are down to mid-calf. And this is a better look? WTFever! The no-butt/ extra long torso look with a dozen tats on your neck/back/chest/forearms, and a flat bill is ignorant as all get out. I even catch flack for tucking my shirt in. When I was a young man I'd get slapped for running around with my shirt pulled out. Had a teacher that would stand in the halls and knock you upside the head with a clipboard if you walked past her with your shirt tails out.
