Gar that are cruising around sipping and slurping are often hard to get a serious bite from. If you can find one just sitting and run your bait parallel to him, preferably coming from behind, you'll get a solid take (deeper in his mouth) almost every time.
There is a manual release valve below the fluid reservoir (just FYI), either a large screw or a knurled knob.
Those old style Merc tilt/trim systems can really eat your lunch. So many potential causes for the problem you described that I refuse to type them all out.
Honestly once that trim system has reached the age it is now....prepare to drop some serious cash (often more than the whole motor is worth).
Sorry but that's Mercury Marine for ya.
Man that approach looks sweet in print, I'd love to see it work repeatedly in real life.
I pay zero attention to fish returns out on deep featureless flats because I assume they aren't just sitting there....they are on the move to somewhere else and will be 50' away from that spot way before I can get a bait in front of them.
The boat traffic has gotten the best of me, so I've moved my fishing to the rivers for awhile.
The bass are still biting in that 15-17' range (some days on brush and other days not) but I'm just tired of fighting the waves in order to fish.
Should be settling down in a week or two.
Oh I understand it. Do you wanna spend as much on every meal as you did to build your kitchen ?
Or buy a new lawnmower every time the grass needs cut ? No!
Guys with 40k boats whine like little girls over replacing 15.00 worth of gear lube all the time.
I'm getting real attached to walking a FROG lately. The KVD sexy frog and/or the Kopper frog will walk really well once you get the hang of it and although I haven't used them for stream smallies the LM crush them like there's no tomorrow, and you can throw them absolutely anywhere without fear of hangups.
If one doesn't get stuck just throw it back at him and 80% of the time the fish will eat it again. That almost never happens with a hard bait.
Boy that's a good point!
If I had hired you and you failed to produce accurate numbers at the end of the day because you were too busy rowing the boat..... you could just forget about getting a tip !
