Yeah the MWBP groups were doing runs, I think preparing for an unsanctioned "dad2dam race" coming up fairly soon. They might cut some points pretty close when plotting their courses, and on the UNANNOUNCED days of the trials they'll be running balls to the wall and running mostly by GPS, so whatever ya do don't get in their way !

I don't have anything worthwhile to share right now, but even if I did it wouldn't be helpful for very long. Things are in a transition stage at the moment so the best thing I could tell ya to do is "stay tuned", or just go blind and see what you can make happen.

No doubt that a few can be caught, and the possibility of stumbling onto a school of decent ones always exists, BUT I doubt you'll have anything resembling a "good pattern" on 11in.+ crappie until later in the Fall, and it will likely be a "mouth of the coves Dock-Shooting pattern". Until then you're just gonna have to settle for stragglers....of which you can still come up with enough to stink up some grease if you're ambitious enough to keep hammering away for them. Myself, I'll just wait until they get into an easier to catch mood.

I agree with your son. I'm afraid you'll get that 1860 hung and won't be able to get it off by yourself. Can you get a truck & trailer turned around down at the little place below Leadmine ? I'd like to explore that stretch this Fall but was afraid if I pulled the trailer back in there I might not get turned around without tearing something up.

I have known alot of pits and ponds, and I have never seen a good crappie pond that wasn't ALSO a good channel cat hole. Crappie and cats seem to work well together. They may even compliment each other. I've noticed the same co-existance pattern with BIG bluegill and beavers. A pond/lake with a resident beaver population is almost certain to have big Honker bluegill in it.

That's how the legend goes, yeah. A fork means rain/sleet and above average temps, and a knife means "hard freeze/too cold to snow".

I'd recommend trying to find a good clean 1996-98 Yamaha 8hp at a good price. The weight/HP/reliability factors make it the closest thing to a perfect drift boat pusher I can think of.

Yeah the park police at Bennett freaked out on me once and made a huge deal out of me letting my daughter and her friend ride on the tailgate from the high bank hole to the park store. Doubt that I exceeded 10mph and its only about 50 yards. It freaked the girls out pretty bad....which pissed me off and I got real lippy about then. That didn't help matters any. I'm probably lucky they didn't charge me with EWC and take me to the Dallas co. Hotel. It cost me 450.00 to have the failure to properly restrain charges knocked down to a simple seat belt fine (10.00) Pretty freaking ridiculous! I've only been back a couple times since then, and my daughter doesn't even like to go anymore. She brings that up every time anyone mentions the place. Bad dad I guess. It was a fun trip until all the lights and sirens went off.

The future of lake Tapps fishing looks very good according to Wikipedia. If I were you I would take advantage of the low water level and build some fish holding structure (rock pile s, stake beds, ect.). And take note of any that already exist.
