  1. Gel coat is actually the first compound that goes into the mold when a hull/cap is formed. Anything sprayed on over the color on a refinish job is simply a "clear coat" which is alot softer, thinner, and less "clear".
  2. Another drawback to "blessings from the lil'woman" is that after you spend 60,000.00 (is that better, Ham?) on a bassboat...then you can't mutter so much as a heavy sigh at a new pastel colored mini-van and 197 pairs of new shoes (and I ain't talking Payless crap either) that will be sold at garage sale prices with tags still intact next year, or just given to friends and co-workers that have similar sized feet. Call it a "blessing" if ya want but......
  3. Yeah but the wifes blessing usually comes in the form of ANOTHER console that is undeniably IN THE WAY unless the boat is as big as a frikken Winnebago and requires 225-300 hp just to get it on plane.
  4. You can do it as a "get by" but I wouldn't alter the transom of the boat to accept the jet. Get a motor with a shaft length that eliminates the need to alter the transom if possible. A V of 6° or so will still handle ok but I doubt that you'll be happy with it on Missouri rivers.
  5. 3 in 1, or Gun oil basically. But it's cheaper to buy by the quart for what you wanna do. Old tractors and engines like Briggs & Stratton 8hp or less that do not have a filter use Non-Detergent oil.
  6. Not familiar with the product or the procedure, but I rub elbows with some crackshot boat refinishing guys and they agree that there is no saving gelcoat. You can rub and polish until your arms fall off but the first few days out in the weather will melt away all that effort.
  7. Yep. 30w non-detergent motor oil. It's an old boat salesmans trick. It'll make it nice and glossy just long enough to get it off the lot. No saving GC long term, trust me. It is a FISHING BOAT now.....Finally it's intended life has begun. Sucks that your loosing it now.
  8. They still haven't found the girl that jumped from the toll bridge here. What's that been, 2 months?
  9. My first impression is that it is a Kentucky catchin' sonofagun. And if there are BIG Kentucky's in the water you're fishing I bet they'll eat it as quick as a 10 inchers would. I wonder of the guys down on Lanier (Ga.) have gotten wind of it yet? That place is an ocean of Spotted bass.
  10. Ok well I finally warmed up to this thing and gave it a honest 1/2 day on LO. Couldn't make anything happen with a 1/16 head but started getting consistent pickups with the 1/8 at about 6-8 ft. Once I started getting bites I began alternating between the goose turd, a 5" hula grub on a 1/4 head (same style head), and a trick worm on a 1/4 Chomper Shakey head. The goose turd got more bites overall and from 3 different species (LM, Spots, Drum) and I think I stuck every bite I got on it. The trick worm/Shakey got bit almost as much but I missed quite a few bites (following up on a missed bite with the goose turd didn't work). The Hula grub did get bit when using it as a followup after a missed bite, and it caught the only two keepers along the bank I was testing them on. After all that monkey business I went back to targeting 12-16' brush with a 8" Texas rig worm and stuck 3 keepers and a dozen or so shorts. I threw the goose turd around some deep brush but the wind was not being my friend so I couldn't stay in contact with it. I started to try it on a 1/4 head but I was too lazy to sit down and make one up.
  11. Sounds more like Gar behavior.
  12. It's because the trailer frame serves as the common ground. If you just looped a ground wire and sealed all of your splices it would eliminate 70% of trailer light issues. Some grease on the bulb sockets and coupler plug will eliminate another 20% and unplugging before launching/loading will eliminate the remaining 10% An active electrical circuit UNDERWATER speeds up corrosion at all the splices and connections x100
  13. I love to eat, but hate to fillet BLUEGILL. No knife suits that job to my satisfaction...
  14. Yep, trailer lights and bow/stern boat running lights are both inherently dam'ned. Its in the bible. Something about a talking jumper wire.
  15. It's a killer knot. Small, quick, and stronger than you think. Does well with fluorocarbon. And Hey.....Who knows Sheep and Bull better than Davy?
  16. Yes. Usually (2) 1/4x20 studs per light box, that is what grounds the bulb sockets I'm assuming that you have a white ground wire from truck to trailer frame and that you are NOT relying on the hitch ball for a ground as Jerry said. If you are then fix it, as that's no good.
  17. Clean off the area where the lights bolt to the trailer. You've lost your ground to the bulb terminals.
  18. Same ol'-same ol' from what I gather. But I wasn't there personally. I hear that there was a few unexpected empty seats, which I choose to interpret as a "hands thrown in air" response.
  19. Yep. Double yep! You can also touch up the blades on electric knives easily with the appropriate size chainsaw file. I've had the same American Angler elec. fillet knife with the original set of blades for over 12 freakin' years !!! That's ALOT of crappie and Whites, and I even carve the Thanksgiving bird and the Christmas ham with it.
  20. Can't argue with THAT! Point well made and taken.
  21. Yeah but hey..... 4 cup holders! I guess that makes it a "Four-Stroke"????
  22. I know a couple guys that would probably buy one just because it has 4 cup holders.
  23. Did he actually claim to have developed it himself ? I thought he was being credited simply for adopting it and writing an article about it.
  24. Probably. I think he targets Beaver's also. Must be in cahoots. All I know is that the "pilot" is becoming a bit too brave and comfortable with his take-offs and landings. He's gonna bite it one of these days if he doesn't cool his jets a little.
