  1. Straw, The gas station down the road from me "closes" at 10:30pm, I can still pull in at midnight and wash my windshield or sit out a hailstorm, just can't get gas and a cold soda. Nobody minds cuz we all spend money there regularly, and it's not bothering anything.
  2. Sounds awful when that's the only part of the story that's told. For further review let's go back and see how the kid got cancer to begin with, and who (if anyone) diagnosed....then refused to treat him....and the real reason why. I doubt that it's about money.
  3. Pretty sure that specific prayer has been "up for consideration" for a Looooong Tiiiime. It must have gotten vetoed. Apparently it just doesn't fit into "the plan". Ya reckon? Or maybe our leaders ARE making the right decisions, but WE are just to ignorant to realize it.
  4. Dennis, what exacty would the ticket be "for"? Most likely they were directed to baracade the access(s), but were not specifically ordered to stand guard and ensure that nobody uses the boat ramps. This is a game (get it?). Everyone is just playing along, nobody is disrespecting anyones job. Surely you don't live in a literal world..... Yo, snap that seatbelt or run right up to the PD and turn yourself in, pronto. How dare you disrespect that officer by driving without it on.
  5. I like "Ozark craw", or "cajun craw" type jig colors around here. In the Fall I like to sneak around in fairly clear shallows, pitching to anything that could hide a fish. If I can throw a rock into 10 fow then I'm not far enough back. The "majority" of fish ARE NOT where I am, but the ones that are will be located exactly where I think they are. You just have to take your time and be sneaky (no transducers ticking, no livewell pumps running, no deploying of Power Poles, and depend more on trick casting from adrift instead of constantly adjusting boat position with the TM). If you're spooking turtles and cranes further away than you can pitch then you might as well go back out and fish the windy points and brushpiles with the rest of the "hi-techs".
  6. I'm surprised this topic isn't getting more love. After a 5+ year hiatus I'm back into it. I haven't ridden the designed trails around here since they we're first blazed, I bet they are nice NOW (the powerline paths I usually ride on are brutal). Plan on revisiting Honey run sometime this week to break in a new bike.
  7. I'll take the high road: 7.02
  8. You have it molded over a weighted jig hook, right?
  9. Yeah It'll skip. If you use the bottom edge of a dock as a line fulcrum you can skip a bowling ball.
  10. You can pluck them out, but occasionally you'll fillet one that has more grub than meat. That crap makes me loose my appetite.
  11. Total weight, or maybe even have the hook/lead (less the plastic) weighing that much. It needs to have enough weight+mass to pitch and skip on med.-hvy. gear. I can slow ddown or control the fall with line size and tension. I just know that with similar streamlined baits (tubes and such) that 5/16 is NOT enough, it needs to be about 3/8-7/16 for what I wanna do with it.
  12. Oh Dude! !!! Can you get that to weigh close to 3/8ox. ?
  13. All I know is; I wish I was pitchin' a jig today. Excellent day to compete for a big one.
  14. Not me, brother. I'm regreting not being out there. Lots of money to be won and I feel extremely Hawgy, today ! Anyway, forget THAT We need to hook up about those Whites one day kinda soon. Until then though, try keeping "some grape vines" in your right peripheral during a cool afternoon. I need to settle on a boat ramp in that vicinity, instead of Der'Vater's.
  15. Those people don't give a rats butt about lake/river accesses, and if they pretend to care they are just acting.
  16. We still have Wally up here, should be pushing between 9-11ft. by now.
  17. F&F, They can write all the tickets they want, but no signature is required unless you just WANT to mail in some money. No way they'd tow a vehicle, that would have to be authorized, and it couldn't be done before a guy out fishing would be back loading his boat. Besides, that would be intentionally stranding a guy on the water.....I dare them to!
  18. You got it! If I sign on NOW do I start racking up a retroactive paycheck for just chillin'?
  19. They can close a gate or ASK you not to use an access, and they might ASK you to leave if you're there when they arrive. But from what I can find out so far that's pretty much it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
  20. When we're done bashing government workers can we start in on insurance professionals? Or we could do marine service/ boating industry first, that's fine.
  21. Well in my defense I may not be a "paid biologist/invasive species specialist" but I do live and work on a lake that has them. I was here before they showed up, was here when hatches of them were borderline crazy in certain areas, and I'm still here .....on the lake.....every day.....and haven't seen but few THIS year. I studied up on them enough that when a "biologist" was quoted in a MDC article I read claiming that he believed that drum had a real appetite for them and could "save the lake" I laughed out loud. That dude should be furloughed just for being openly ignorant and getting paid for it. Believe what suits you, and support slinging tons of copper sulfate wherever ya want, but as I said....I DON'T THINK zebras have/or will harm our waterways if ignored, and MAY actually benefit them considering their current state of purity. Personally I'm considerably more concerned with critters that are disappearing than I am ones that are showing up. Specifically Dragon and damsel flies, and frogs.
  22. Pick a fish species and learn all you can about them. Start a fishing logbook and keep after them every chance you get on any body of water that you have access to. The shortcuts and tricks you figure out on your own are the ones that truly build your confidence and understanding. Specializing on one species at a time, and not giving up until you're confident that you can catch one regardless of the conditions or the season will better organize the learning process.
  23. Zebra mussels don't hurt a dang thing, and I think the propaganda is all done just to support funding for a bunch of phoney-baloney "jobs". Sure they'll clog up water intakes that are left submerged for a long-LONG time.....as they SHOULD, since "water intakes" are not a natural thing themselves. If a certain organism thrives to the point over over-population in a certain body of water then there is usually a good reason. Nature is gonna run its course regardless. You wanna STOP the spread of Zebra mussels? Then use the funds set aside for all the propaganda and "further study" and apply it towards cleaning up the water.
