New age flyfishing has gone just as stupid as everything else. Short-line or tightline nymphing is now called"Euro". But if you have no flyline at all then it's called "tenkara". Swinging or dangling a fly in current is now "Scandi" or "spey". All us Americans have to call our own at this point, is bobber fishing and jerking streamers. 🙄 The only other technique left up for grabs.....and us Americans had better master it and claim it quickly....is Drifting drys.

Mercury V6's were designed with a synthetic nylon oil pump drive gear for some unknown reason. The smaller 2-3-4 cylinder Mercs have a metal or brass drive gear that never fails. The nylon gears began failing immediately, but the designers at Mercury marine refused to ever improve upon it. Johnson/Evinrude VRO pump diaphragms went through a period of failure when alcohol started to be added to fuel. They promptly redesigned the diaphragms to withstand alcohol exposure and dubbed the system "VRO2" and it remains trouble-free to this day.....BUT nobody has forgotten the short period when original VRO systems were failing right & left. VRO2 is the most reliable oil metering system ever to be used in 2-stroke outboards. If one DOES fail it fails by adding too much oil....not by starving the engine of oil. At least OMC did something positive. Mercury just let their customers deal with the pain, with no apologies or rectification whatsoever. Douchebags. -

.....and then CHARGES you for it. 😂 People say "Wrench, why do you always suspect that everyone is out to screw people over all the time?". Gee, I dunno, guess I missed the line I was supposed to stand in to get my BS blinders installed. 🤔 -
I don't buy this. I think that "what you don't like" is ME. You dislike the way I carry myself on here, you think I'm crass and a troublemaker, so you're cocked and ready to dispute anything I say whenever you think you can. And that's cool, I welcome it. If I'm wrong about the wasted money and failing outcomes of the MDC Trout program then please, by all means set me straight. All of this defensive patting on the back about how they are operating currently, that you and others do.....is just ensuring that it will only continue to get worse, and never get any better. That's how I feel about it.

How so? What you're telling me is that you're positive that the individual human effort is greater now, even though they have more hands on all kinds of digital state of the art equipment, than it was years ago when they had 6-7 guys using coffee cans, Mercury thermometers, and wheelbarrows. You didn't fish it much years ago, and you don't fish it now.....but you have a better understanding than those that did and do? Here's a little project for ya:. Consider the SOH complex and the size of Taneycomo. Now look at the Bennett Spring hatchery complex and the size of Bennett Spring & a couple miles of the Niangua......Now tell me why one is consistently so much better (more efficient) than the other. And why it wasn't ALWAYS that way.

This one has has gotten me pretty excited lately. I'm actually kinda reluctant to share it this early in the game..... but keeping secrets is no fun. Here's what the fish see... #16-14 White thread Amherst pheasant tippet for the tail. Peacock herl body, and use the white thread to make the waist in the middle. Calf tail wing. Grizzly hackle. My daughter and I took them out last week and had a blast ! Every fish that moved towards it ATE IT. Not a single last-second refusal. I gave a buddy of mine two of them and he called late last night and told me he was having the best day of dry fly fishing that he'd ever had in his entire life.....until he broke off his last one on a hookset. 🙂 So there you have it. Try it and let me know what you think. Don't forget the LOOP KNOT, it makes a difference.

Without doing a complete O/I system diagnosis it's hard to say. But it is highly likely that the motion sensor is detecting periods of NO MOVEMENT from the oil pump drive gear. Even if that is not the case it is HIGH TIME to delete that O/I system and start mixing your fuel. That O/I system is poorly designed, and if it isn't beginning to fail now then I promise you it won't be long until it does. Just get rid of it. 👍 Now that I've said that.....it could possibly be water in the fuel filter, or a bad oil level sensor causing the intermittent beep. But if it only happens during hard acceleration......Motion sensor (doing its job) is suspect. -
If so then that makes my point even stronger. 🙂

They just in the last 2 years (I think....TIME seems to go so fast these days) increased the Trout stamp cost. And immediately after the increase they appeared to do EVEN LESS. Less in the parks, and far less in the Red and White ribbon areas. I'm not so petty as to fuss over a couple dollars, so that really wasn't my point. My point, and it's undisputable, is that the quality of Trout fishing in this state was noticably better way back before they had all this money, all these employees, and all of the latest high-tech equipment that they have now. I've only raised my rate twice since I started my business, and the first raise was at the request of my friendly competitors. It was actually for THEIR benefit more than mine. Nevertheless, I definitely never became more of a slacker after doing so.

I'm pretty sure John Wilson invented the butt-hole finger hold that took the trout photo world by storm.
-
Don't y'all find it ironic that back when all they had to work with was license fee money...they did an outstanding job. But now that they are among the richest agencies in the state they still continually raise license fees, and can't seem to accomplish diddly squat?

Naw there's nothing "wrong". In 1947 the song "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas" was released because the 4-6 winters prior had been warmer than average. Old Bing crooned because he missed the days of his childhood when blankets of snow and ice covered the landscape before Christmas day. Weather trends come and go. 1930 - 1936 were the dust bowl years of severe widespread drought. Even if you insist on believing the 1920 Crane creek/McCloud trout fable....you can't ignore the fact that that tributary and the river it is connected to was drier than a popcorn fart for 5 consecutive years during that time, and has been almost that dry again, at least twice since then. You think it's warmer than ever NOW? Talk to your great grampa about it. 🤔 1968 - 1972. Totally opposite situation. Terrible flooding and record snowfalls pretty much nationwide. I can even remember that ! Farmers had it rough. If you were a farmer during that period you were as poor as a church mouse.....and there were ZERO government handouts to carry you through. I ain't chewing and swallowing the climate science that is being fed to us now, and I refuse to listen to the ones that swallowed it and then started puking it back up. 🙂
-
There ya go ! Now that's a holdover. 👍 Not bad at all. That appears to be upstream of NRO too....but downstream of Riverwood. Yeah, I know the river THAT well. 😉
-
They went nuts up here. You could stand on the bank just about anywhere and fill a bucket in no time. Damnedest thing I've ever seen.
-
Yeah, she got a little rowdy there for a bit. The white bass sure went on an epic frenzy right before it started moving into the area. 🙂
-
Get that precious thing off that bump board STAT ! Don't you know what it costs to manufacture those? A wet wool glove is the only way to safely handle them. 🙂
-
Well Poo, sorry you had a slow day. The fact that you actually saw a brown is somewhat inspiring though.
-
More often than not, it makes him a single dad paying 1200.00/mo. child support......and a hero on Facebook. More commonly known as "a Hammer".

Listen, the only way to get MDC interested in doing THEIR JOB at a certain location, is to glorify the place and make a spectacle out of it. I remember when Crane cr. didn't have anything but crawdads and chubs in it......Then miraculously (almost overnight) there were numerous little spotted "wild McCloud" trout, and even a fair number of 15-18 inchers. It was as if they suddenly levitated from the hills of southern Cali and fell out of the sky.

The fisheries dept. at Lincoln U. has been working to make an ultra-fast growing strain of bluegill for fish farming. They have hermaphrodite bluegill that can reproduce all on their own (no male/female pairing required). For some reason though they are having trouble marketing them. How much do you wanna bet that eventually hermaphrodite Bluegill will be in all of our lakes and streams ? Along with the many other weirdo species that nobody wants to accept the blame for. Biologist's 🙄 They just can't keep from piddling around with the genes of living organisms. Just try to remember, here in 5-9 years when you begin hearing about Hermaphrodite bluegill and the problems they are creating.....I told you where they originated from. Anyway, enough of that 😣 Is our boy back from his Niangua trip yet? Anxious to hear his report. 👍
-
Had they been bluegill, bass, or bullheads I bet the excitement would have been equally as spiritual and orgasmic. The point I was trying to make was that TROUT aren't really special UNLESS they are in the beautiful places where trout can live......and even then, it isn't necessarily the TROUT that make the experience what it is. Matter of fact, bluegill are even more colorful and cute than trout are.
-
Any style, any time, and any place.....But it has to be a Trout, hu? 🤔
-
Well then pump up some groundwater and make them some freakin' trout streams then. How hard could it be? You ever been to Big Surf water park? There ya go! If you truly value their dollars then give them something more "Theodore Gordon" than a truckload of hatchery trout thrown into a bullhead pond.

Yep I remember when you first got it diagnosed. You were scared shitless, and I was scared shitless for you. Can't express to you how happy I am that you got it patched up sufficiently. Inside the mouth would be a problematic zone I'm sure. Didn't it start from a raw spot rubbed from a chipped tooth? I can't help but think a problem with the healing of my lip might be a degree of poisoning from the galvanized metal that ripped my lip open. I don't think it is cancer (not typical basil or melanoma anyway) because it does try to heal..... but then I forget about it and continue going about my day to day BS and I smack it, nick it shaving, or bust a gut laughing about something and crack it open again. Plus I go through spells where I can't keep from picking at it. I'll be sitting there minding my own business and my wife or daughter will yell at me "Quit picking your lip!" 😂 Oh! Yeah Sorry. 😉 It's become a subconscious "tick" with me. Honestly, I'd go to a doctor and have it checked out....but when I think about how much they are likely to milk me over it, that will make my blood pressure skyrocket. So it's a tradeoff.....you wanna die of a heart attack..... or live with an ugly lip that doesn't even hurt? Piss on it. Ive never been known for my striking good looks anyway.....so WTH? I refuse to give up everything I've worked all my life for just because a stupid bungee cord slipped out of my hands. That belongs to my wife & kids.....not some GD greedy hospital and their staff of peons.
