  1. While we're on the topic of keeping dry flys up where they are supposed to be......that Frogs Fanny dust is the best stuff I've ever used. You can float a weighted nymph with that stuff. Pretty cool πŸ‘
  2. Nice work, Man ! πŸ‘ I'm almost ashamed to say it, because I've been doing it so long, but I still haven't caught a bass much over 4# on the fly. I am going to try real hard to get a 5-6 this spring.
  3. Easterly breeze today. Randy might as well conserve the hours on his motor. That run to HHT was a rookie mistake, I was floored when I heard he did that. πŸ™„
  4. I went Gamechanger crazy for awhile. They sure look cool, but I still get better (more frequent) bites on Bulkhead style streamers.
  5. I'm not categorically hostile to science. Good science is the greatest thing ever. Poor, or inaccurate science does more harm than good, it slows the learning curve because the longer it goes unchecked/undebunked the harder it is to undo. Bits of it become similar to weird religious beliefs that lead people down the wrong path.
  6. Just think of all the pheromone NOISE going on down there ! Fish#1 is transmitting that he just experienced an angler encounter. Fish#2 is bragging about finding a 7" crawdad. Fish#3 just had amazing sex with a soft-shelled turtle, and can't shut-up about it. Fish#4 just swam through a spoonbill fart. Fish#5 got a bluegill stuck in his face and is embarrassed beyond comprehension. Fish#6 wants everyone to know that he FINALLY managed to poop out a Senko. Fish#7 wants everyone to know that he heard a suspicious intermittent Whirring noise out over the MAINLAKE POINT. So DON'T GO THERE! Dang, there's just TMI floating around down there. It's mind boggling! Seriously though, has it ever occured to you that biologists sometimes have those weird dreams where they wake up thinking it was real. So they decide to write an article about it ?
  7. Conspecifics???? Woah! Now there's a 6 dollar word for ya. πŸ˜…
  8. Quit dressing so fancy, driving such outlandishly sweet vehicles, and hob-knobbing with politicians.....and you won't need to defend yourself against anybody. Do you really think there is a sizable population of evil-doers out there looking to assault poor old broken down hillbillies in faded bib overalls? If you get jumped....just start shitting and pissing all over yourself, and they'll go away right quick. πŸ˜‚
  9. That's what I'm talking about ! Real Men Of Genius A Golf tee and a tie-strap oughta work too. πŸ‘
  10. Whoops 😬, back up there a bit. I know where that "theory" came from, because I've heard & read it too. But this is where you can get all sideways in your understanding of fish behavior. That little tidbit is a perfect example of Fisheries Biologist bullschit. There is no foundation for that assumption whatsoever. Fish notice excitement in other fish via their nervous or spastic actions, and that's a fact. A fish just tossed back into the water acts crazed, but a fish gently eased back into the water and released gently will casually swim back into a school of other fish.....and none of the other fish notices anything, and that again is another fact. Before the release....feel free to flick him in the eye, call him a MF and a CS and a Sonuvabitch, and show him a video of another fish being brutally assaulted, and whatever other evil treatment you can think of.....but release him SLOWLY & GENTLY and he will casually swim back to the other fish without ANY horrible tales to convey. There are no "pheromone transmissions" going on.
  11. It surely can't hurt anything. πŸ‘ I like the slime off the flanks though. 😊
  12. I came to the conclusion, long ago, that there is nothing "bouyant" about CDC feathers. They are fluffy, and have lots of little barbules, so they tend to resist breaking through the surface film. But once they've been pulled under they are worthless, regardless of how much time you spend mashing them between 2 mushrooms. Therefore.....I have a bunch of bags of CDC puffs and feathers that I've bought, and we can put up for auction, or trade for decent hackle, right here and now. If anyone is interested I will dig them out and post a pic.
  13. Do you ever "rub-a-chub"? I always rub my fly on a chubs side when I catch one. A little chub slime on your fly.....is MONEY, Baby !
  14. That's cool, as long as you don't forget to love a nice short kill switch lanyard too. 😐 If there was ever a good reason to have a Hotfoot throttle, it would be on a stick steer rig.
  15. I have no idea. Squeeze around the turbine housing, or through a crack in the foundation maybe. That's the only reasonable explanation I can think of. Back in my home town they always reported mice in the water tower. Nobody ever figured out how the hell they managed to get up and inside there. But they did, all the time.
  16. They had a trac-hoe over there yesterday dredging it. Should be fine now. Ease her in slowly at first though. πŸ‘
  17. I've so been there. It's the survival test of all time. I routinely party with a group of Marines Desert Storm vets, and they'll get to telling stories sometimes. When they are all done I just stand up and say, "Alright you bunch of crybaby pussies, now it's my turn to tell you chapter 3 of my divorce story".
  18. Because some MDC biologists said so. πŸ™„ LOZ has everything. Here's a few others that might surprise you.... Northern Pike, Musky, Brook trout, Alligator gar, Pacu, Snakeheads, and even gets visited by (the most mind-blowing of all) free-range spawning American Eel 😳
  19. I've known a few that I felt needed it, but luckily they weren't mine, so I was able to get away from them. πŸ˜… Judging from the FB comments of numerous aquaintences, I think that dude was keeping the kids away from a psycho momma for a good reason, but then once the "law" got involved he knew he was gonna get long-armed. Pretty sure we can chalk this one up to a failure of the Amber Alert system. Had they not blindly taken the words of psycho-Cinderella and gone full SWAT team on the dude......He AND THE KIDS would still be here. Knowing that he was going to get imprisoned, taken to the cleaners by lawyers, and would likely never see his kids again..... was just more than he could bare. The law should have stayed out of the family unit this time.
  20. Not always. They change colors depending on water color, just like other fish often do. Sometimes they are just dull silvery white, and other times they'll have a blue hue with a yellowish streak that runs into the tail. If you ever notice a second shad spawn (like in July-August) those are threadfins. I'm not real sure but I've heard that threadfins reach spawning age when only 3 months old. So you'll have a regular spring spawn once water warms up enough.....and then the ones that hatched from that spawn will spawn themselves in a few months. So on lakes like Lake O that have both TF's and Giz's you'll likely notice 3 different sizes of shad in surface schools during September-October. Tiny dime sized shad.....Shad the size of your index finger.....And then hand sized 4-5" ones . Once the gizzards get BIG-big then they feed along the shoreline and along the bottoms like carp. So you won't ever see big honker 1#+ gizzards in surface schools out in the middle of the lake. Now (here we goπŸ˜…).....Our brilliant biologists will tell you that hybrid stripers were "invented" in order to control shad populations as the shad got bigger, but you don't have to be very smart to figure out that a 13" LM or Spotted bass can eat a bigger shad than a 15+lb. Hybrid striper can. And when it comes to actual Stripers......they aren't where the big gizzards are, so they're no help either. Flatheads, Blues and Largemouth bass over 6# are the only thing eating full grown gizzards. Hybrids can't get them in their mouth....and Stripers never see them.
  21. In other news.....A dude in Benton county, with a conceal & carry permit, shot his 2 small children and then shot himself, 3 days after getting a Covid vaccine. I guess alot can happen to change your outlook on life.....in 48 hours or less.. hu? πŸ€”
  22. Oh😳 Well thank Dog, they finally found something else besides cigarettes to blame for everybody's cancer now. πŸ™„ Covid certainly made it worse. Now let's get rolling on that class-action suit against China πŸ‘ I mean, as soon as we don't have a chinese president, that is.
  23. Yeah I only had about 64 guys ask me if it was for sale while it was sitting here. πŸ˜…
