You retained that information from/since grade school? No wonder you turned out more successful than I did. It's that useless information that leads you to the top, boys and girls. Never forget that.

Oh I usually do, if I think I can get away with it. 😁

Cost of Outboard Winterization
fishinwrench replied to MickinMO's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Correct, that's why I added the "should you choose to". Winterization of outboards is really not needed. The only thing truly mandatory before letting one sit through freezing conditions is making sure there's no water in the gearcase or anywhere else where it could freeze and bust something. Fogging the cylinders and stabilizing the fuel is pretty much "hokey b.s." ...but if someone requests it then service establishments certainly don't mind getting paid for it. When someone requests "winterization" then they get the whole 9 yards. 😊 -
Thank you. That explains it. Who knew?

At Bennett last Sunday there was a dude upwind of me toking on a cigar the size of a gorilla penis. Smelled like a cherry cinnamon roll in a pan of green beans that somebody was holding an acetylene torch to. I wanted to walk up there and dunk him.

Does either one have a boat ?

Ahh, an alcohol related incident ! You're lucky you escaped felony prosecution.

Can someone smarter than me please explain this? I thought the bicentennial year was back in 1976 1821 was the Mexican Independence year. I don't get it 🤔 Bygod we're gonna build a wall....But hey, we're still gonna celebrate your Independence from Spain....cuz we're cool like that. WTF???? 😂😂😂😂😂 What historical (hysterical) factoid am I missing here? 😂

Slothman and I had a go at it in the shallows this evening. In general the action was very slow but we had a few quality bites on a swim jig. I think given a full 6-8 hour day we could put together a pretty solid limit. The first keeper taught us that there's no such thing as "too shallow" right now.

Yeah, Operation Game Theft is pretty much BS propaganda when it comes to our rivers. Somebody called them a few years ago because they thought someone in our neighborhood shot a deer out of their yard...and they all showed up like a SWAT team within 30 minutes. 🙄

On a float last Fall, a week or so after a stocking there were dead gigged rainbows littering the bottom for 3 miles above Barclay. I called MDC and reported it, then asked some folks that I know near there to watch for any conservation vehicles (particularly one with a jet boat in tow). Almost two weeks afterwards they saw one guy in a MDC truck go by...but he came right back out less than 10 minutes later. So in all actuality, until they decide to take the illegal gigging thing serious then it probably doesn't matter.

A little more effort than just dumping them in at a couple of accesses would do wonders for the fishery. When you dump them like that they all hang together like a school of crappie which makes loading a bucket way too easy. They could actually stock less fish while having a much better overall fishery if they'd break up the gang a little bit. Being able to stand in one spot making identical drifts and catching 15-20 fish is not what trout fishing should be like. There is a bit more to "fishery management" than just throwing fish in a river, for crying out loud.

Yessir, many years ago I delivered ice there. Had lunch and visited with the old school teacher once a week. She ranks among the most interesting people I've ever met.

Me either, nor does it appear that hardly anyone who fishes there does. Which begs the question: Where do all the better sized fish go? I didn't see any guts in the stream either.

Really? You had me pegged for a skinny young guy? 34/32 jeans and 55 y/o. Pretty much right where I deserve to be. 😊 I'll take you up on a foot race, but please can we make it one with a cheeseburger, a diet Coke and a cigarette at the finish line ?

You've never heard me say that. The trout program is the one that I support, since unlike the spoonbill, walleye, and hybrid striper programs.... actually pays for itself. Well, that is until you spend millions upgrading a hatchery and then don't bother to use it.

Well thanks. It WAS a nice brown, and would have made an epic photo montage had I not gotten overly confident in my 6x Floroflex Plus. In my defense though, there was a kid below us that I knew wasn't gonna get out of the way, so had I not exerted extra pressure I would have likely not landed it anyway.
-
It would sure be cool if they used that enormous new hatchery operation to it's fullest though. Imagine how awesome the Niangua could fish if they would just make an attempt to manage it better.
-
Yeah, I still think it's a great place to hone your skills.....as long as you do something other than stand at an outlet and drift mini-jigs under a bobber. My dry fly casting/mending/ect. was sucking bad after some years of not doing it, and after a couple days spent working on my game I think I'm back into the groove. As if those skills are even useful to have while fishing in mid-Missouri and refusing to travel elsewhere. 😅

We spent another day in the park yesterday. Strictly fished drys all day, and determined shortly after lunch (Hillbilly Burger is a chithole btw) that the pattern was irrelevant as long as it was a #16 on 6x. Zone 1 had some fairly decent sized fish, but Z2 is absolutely loaded with greedy little farts making it rather annoying. I did stick one nice brown in Z2 but he took me so by surprise that I blew it on the first run and he broke off. That was the only brown we saw all day. We walked the hatchery raceways, looks like they are operating at 1/5 of their capacity and the size of the fish in the raceways is very small. I wonder why they expanded their operation so much... but aren't utilizing it? Seems like such a waste. What's the problem? We didn't see anyone toting a stringer, and come to think of it....the weekend before when we were there I didn't see anyone keeping any either. So where are all the fish going?

I had one on my desk the other day, and when I picked him/her up to throw it outside it jerked around and made a squeaking noise. Kinda freaked me out, so the release wasn't near as gentle as I had originally intended. 😆

I keep hearing guys say that and I can't help but think that the "wind pattern" is merely in your head. I don't know Stockton Whites at all, but where I fish the wind direction has no effect whatsoever, so I actually prefer it to be calm. Shad are everywhere regardless of how the wind blows. The Whites here certianly don't need wind to help them find food. Is the shad population kinda low on Stockton ?

Idling slowly across is one thing. If your boat sits like that at a slow idle then you might wanna turn the bilge switch on.

The word "pro" is sure being used loosely these days. 🙄

The earliest I've ever seen turnover begin is Halloween. Typically it begins sometime between then and Thanksgiving.
