  1. The only term that fits, and serves your intended purpose is...."motorized vessels", period, and that would outlaw all methods of propulsion short of paddling/rowing. Jet skis (PWC) are soon to enter the scene if vessel length or "horsepower" is used in the regs, so... Hmmm. Allowing motorized vessels by authorities only in cases of "emergency" is bull$#!t. Busting kids for weed and jello shots is not an emergency, and LEO's in motorized vessels are no less destructive to the resource than sportsmen are. And it's rediculis to assume that LEO's are the only ones capable of helping in the event if an emergency. I'd be in favor of an All or None, with no exceptions, and if they'd think about it for awhile I think most would see it that way also.
  2. After a tornado, insurance companies pretty much bend over backwards to avoid bad press I think. My agent started off being a genuine nit-picker, but once the word started getting out that I was having to "fight with them" they suddenly became extremely lenient and helpful. I paid off my mortgage and took charge of the clean-up and reconstruction myself, and was issued checks in 30k increments until completed. Only after the first check was issued did an inspector stop by to check on the progress. After that they just took my word for it or they may have had someone just drive by to take a quick peek occasionally.
  3. Dogknotted !.....dam the luck. Whatever you do, Honey, PLEASE don't jump that fence.
  4. When did THAT rule go into effect? I didn't have to play that way. I provided a list of items that included the year that each item.was aquired...and they calculated the depreciation and sent me a check. There were alot of things I had that were insured under PP that I either decided not to replace, or replaced with something else. There were several items that I submitted receipts for in attempt to get full replacement cost on, but they always came up with reasons to depreciate it so after that I didn't bother. In the end I still collected the full amount of PP coverage. Its amazing how much "assorted useless household crap" adds up to, even when depreciated. I mean who needs 77 corkscrews? LOL
  5. You say "limit the use of jet boats". Does that mean that the "authorities" will be the only ones allowed, or that nobody will be allowed? And by using the term "jetboat" are you not including a ban on prop outboards? (ALL motorized vessels?)
  6. No need. I believe that little write-up is a regurgitation from about 9 years ago. Hopefully (for their own sake) both Harold and John have moved on to bigger/better things since then.
  7. We were listening to that the night before last. It sounded like whale calls, interspersed with what sounded like helicopters off in the distance. It IS creepy.
  8. Never ice fished. What's the protocol for testing the thickness of pond ice before you start hauling gear out on it, and/or DRIVING on it? Just curious.
  9. Well whatever it is, it sucks. And after dissassembling a jillion of them I can attest that it is NOT common on US assembled outboards. Just something to consider the next time you hear someone dogging some marina because they charged them 3-times the going rate for a water pump, or similar replacement on their jap outboard.
  10. A little of both I suspect. If you clean the threads up on a wire wheel the threads will be badly pitted, as if they we're dipped in saltwater right before installing. They are almost never reusable. Those pics are from a recent thermostat swap on a 1996 Yamaha 115 that had never seen saltwater (well, I guess at one time it was shipped across saltwater) LOL Alot of the time all the bolts will have a dry white powdery-like corrosion on them.
  11. How do you tell the difference? If your lucky and get them out they'll look like this.... When you're not so lucky, they look like this.... Please, no ads for WD-40, Break-Free, or PB..... cuz that crap won't touch it Ever.
  12. Technically Yes....sort of. But you don't see the seizing fasteners on the Merc/Yammie clones, OR the Evinrude/Tohatsu spawn. Can't really explain that phenomenon.
  13. See! This is what I mean about being afraid to skip a thread here. Pieces of Solid Gold are hidden everywhere.
  14. My only real valid complaint about Japs outboards is that there is something they use in the assembly process that causes the fasteners to react with the block material and seize. This is a huge and annoyingly common issue when working with Yamaha, Suzuki, Nissan/Tohatsu, and probably Honda as well....but I never touch Honda's so I can't confirm that. If you ever have to remove anything that is attached via threads cut into the block or cylinder head there is a 75% chance that you're gonna break a fastener (or 3) and have to do some drilling/re-tapping. Thermostat covers are the worst, and I have had a bunch of simple thermo swaps that turned into 300.00+ ordeals.
  15. If they are both wearing about the same you may have some axle flex going on. Maybe a brace fabricated to the center of the axle while the trailer is unloaded, is needed. Or you might have a set of poorly manufactured wheels.
  16. What he said ^ for sure! Going on a float/camp when all of your energy is spent on staying reasonably comfortable and alive is probably something that everyone should do at least once a year though. Some serious perspective there I'm sure, and solitude in spades!
  17. Tenkara would be a useful technique for when you start trying to fill the chub, shiner, and sunfish slots
  18. Somewhat related: What are you guys thoughts on this kinda crap? I have mixed feelings. #1) it's pretty obvious that this clown is pulling this crap to illicit a confrontation. But #2) coming from a generation that used to carry our shotguns to school in the back window of our trucks and hit the dove fields immediately after the 3:15pm bell rang, why do people totally freak out when they see a gun now? Are truck gun racks even legal anymore? And if you were to drive down a highway with a pair of shotguns/rifles visible to other vehicles nowadays would there be a roadblock up ahead soon? I almost bet there would. We've reached a point almost to where an unfamiliar non-hunting neighbor seeing you carry your shotgun from your house to your truck as you're on your way hunting just might result in you topping a hill 3 miles from your house and finding a roadblock with 6 AR's pointed at you. The media has done a grand job of freaking people out about guns, and the sound of gunfire. And that's why y'all are getting hassled during your duck hunts.
  19. I just can't help but think that the disappointment would have been turned to rave reviews of said guide.....had you gotten 2 quality bites, and fish in the net, late in the day. Your guide I'm sure was banking/hoping for it. It was a gamble either way, and he shot for the win. Should he have ignored his gut and tried to persuade you into catching a few bass instead? I've been a guide in the same situation and always condoned sticking with what I know can work. What if he talked you out of trying for a big walleye, and you got skunked at bass fishing too? You might be pissed that he didn't allow you to put in more time on the walleye bite. Tough call any direction you go. What line of work are/were you in? (IYDMMA)
  20. I assume that he was on time, you were in his boat and covered by his insurance, and he was friendly and as helpful as he could be? The guide fishing (and catching a few) had to help your confidence somewhat....at least you knew that some fish were nearby. Being disappointed that your trip fell on a tough day is justifiable. Raggin' any heavier than you already have on the guide is not. Can you be sure that you didn't have any bites at all? Consistent walleye success can never be guaranteed.
  21. I do suspect that they have gotten a bit more stingy with the river stocking but they still report stocking about the same numbers as they always do, so who knows, really. There is one thing I notice about almost all the folks that fish powerbait, and it's that they always seem to spend all their time in deeper holes with little current. That's not the kind of spots where the trout are at alot of the time. Sometimes they are in faster water no deeper than your ankles, and other times they are in the slightly deeper tailouts immediately below the riffles, or other types of places....but I never see a bait soaker fishing anything but deep slow pools where there are comfortable places on the bank to sit down. Put in a little more effort and make things a little harder on yourself and I bet it will pay off in quicker limits. Just a suggestion.
  22. .....then sell it for 4.99
  23. Dunno if there's an "app" but you can bookmark this.... http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx Or stick this number in your contacts list... 8664941993
