So...who Ordered The Curtains?
fishinwrench replied to fishinwrench's topic in General Angling Discussion
4 of them ? -
I, for one, was kinda enjoying the sunshine thank you very much Who knew a groundhog had so much pull?
-
Chris, I always "pile" my whip finish turns one atop the other (4-5 turns). Seems that if I let it walk across the head the loops slide and loosen. I do the deed directly behind the eye loop so it is locked in a trough and can't "walk loose". I only use cement on flys with big thread heads (clousers, decievers, ect) and Sally Hansen hard as nails is as good as anything else for my purposes, it's thin enough to soak in and builds up nice and clear.

New Crayfish Patterns For Carp, Bass, Bone Fish Etc Video Too
fishinwrench replied to esox niger's topic in Fly Recipes
I think you're right, and it cracked me up when you said..." and I don't care anymore"... cuz that's exactly the attitude I get, until I see someone posting successful carp reports. Gives me an inferiority complex and makes me wanna try again. If they are Buffalo, and Buffalo are typically that way then that explains it. Thank You, you just saved my ego. The location of them is in the back end flats of the bigger Lake O tributary arms, and further up the creeks in silty backwater sloughs. They are insanely thick all through the warm months rooting and tailing in textbook fashion, but absolutely will not take a fly in their mouth. I've even tried rubbing peanut butter on my fly and all sorts of "inside tricks"....NADA. So yeah, I bet that thr majority of my "carp" are buffalo.... makes sense and I guess I figured they were closely enough related that I never differentiated between the species in my mind. Excellent info and very helpful, Thanks again.- 19 replies

New Crayfish Patterns For Carp, Bass, Bone Fish Etc Video Too

Essox, I think it's about time you put on a little carp forum seminar for us here. How about a little Q & A for a guy (me) that knows where some huge carp hang out.... but can not get them to bite a fly for nuthin. I can get a cast in their face good enough to snag them in the head routinely but getting one to eat the fly on purpose has totally eluded me so far. What degree of water turbidity seems to make it happen best? Do you like a long leader (10ft. or more)? Any other rigging tips that matter? How about the 3 most important aspects that lead to getting a fly in a carps mouth? They are hands down the hardest fish to consistently catch on fly gear.....and I wanna learn it- 19 replies

Shoal Creek Tresspass Closure!
fishinwrench replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
I guess my main point, and position is; If Chief is charged with trespassing (whether the sentance is suspended with an agreement or he is fined) then LAW for that section of stream is most definately being made. From that point on anyone calling the sheriff because of someone on thier gravel bar, or wading the stream adjacant to private property in that county is going to result in a trespassing charge. And neighboring counties will most likely follow suit. So to the ones who care and enjoy spending time on Shoal cr. it is a pretty big deal, whether anyone else considers it "making law" or not. -

It'll be interesting to see the official answer to this. My guess is that it's because prosecutors can ignore the actual laws....but judges can't . -
Shoal Creek Tresspass Closure!
fishinwrench replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
Hoglaw, how much preparation would his lawyer have to do? All he should have to do is ask the prosecutor to show him the law that indicates that Chief had actually acted against it. Do you believe the prosecutor can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Chief indeed broke the law? It appears that you do....and that interests me. I'm no lawyer, don't even play one online, but I can't see this even making it to a preliminary hearing. So how can he justify a 1500.00 retainer? That's nothing more than a number to scare (lead) him in a desired direction, as I see it. And I'm willing to bet there are a good number of silent folk reading this that agree. What blows my mind about this whole "gray area" BS is that while there may not be a law that says we CAN access said stream, there is equally no law that says we CAN'T. True or False? I'm curious as to why the "gray" is always darker on the defendants side of tbe scales. -
Blue Wing Olive - Question
fishinwrench replied to mic's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
Which pattern style are you tying? For the last several years I have been using a down-wing style dry usually concidered a "caddis" for just about all mayfly matching. Just a sparse deer hair wing over a dubbed or wrapped foam body. Match the size and color of what's on the water (or in the air) and it fools them. -

Really? You don't see the leading nature in which that letter was composed? Who would describe the options in that manner? A. Someone committed to representing their clients constitutional rights . Or B. Someone looking to satisfy a prosecutor and pass on a case where he would actually have to do some work. Or C. A true saint of a lawyer who knows the probable outcome, yet chooses not to take some easy cash from a middle class individual, out of the goodness of his heart. -
It's hell to have to apologize to your dog when you loose a fish, ir are just having a slow day. Reminds me of a pointer my Dad had that if you missed a bird would look at you as if to say, "oh c'mon, seriously? ".

We could do one of those anytime, could even do one every month. I'm in. I doubt that Phil would want it happening on here though. -
Shoal Creek Tresspass Closure!
fishinwrench replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
Just to be 100% clear..... does their case revolve around where you accessed the creek, or because you got out of your canoe while floating through his property? Your lawyer is clearly trying to steer you away from trial.... and he is acting in the prosecutors behalf, not yours. I hope you haven't paid that jackass a dime yet. I'm broke as a joke right now but shouldn't be for much longer, I'm good for 100.00 sonetime before April 1st. -

If we go length you can score your best 10 fish that are 12"+ (actually your partner scores them for you) If we weigh in then its the best 5 that are 15"+, and you have to babysit them all day and include dead fish penalties into the rules. My vote would be to keep it simple and easy on the fish...and us. but I do have access to a set of digital scales. -
Shoal Creek Tresspass Closure!
fishinwrench replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
Then again.... you CAN agree to those terms and have charges dropped, then just "not go on Praters property'.... after they tell you FOR SURE what is HIS property. which means you still have the same rights on the creek as you assumed you did, unless they can prove differently. Not too sure that isn't the best move, way cheaper too. -

Obvious from his wording that he has NEVER been to trial. What you have there, Sir Chief, is a local plea bargaining douche of a lawyer that is in the habit of "working things out" with that particular prosecutor. Oh man, I have so played that game before and it makes my blood boil. He is assuming, and banking on you not having 1500.00 at your disposal. I wish I could see his face when you say...."Thanks, I'm going to trial, but you're not.....cuz you don't know your way there" -

Guess it depends on where in LO you plan to fish. Don't think I'd wanna fish Shawnee bend, but the Buffalo's, Niangua's or Cole camp wouldnt be bad. Ideally though we'd have enough guys with boats. I know of 4 so far, maybe 5. -
