  1. My experience has been that good pocket knives never stay in my possession very long, and the cheap ones stick around forever. So I carry a $5 Ozark Trail. Few swipes on some rough concrete and it's ready to go. My hunting knife is a CRKT. Their stuff used to be pretty good but I don't know if that's still the case. I was given a ceramic kitchen knife for Christmas last year, it's sharp, that's for sure. Not sure if I can resharpen when it gets dull though.
  2. Mini split? Those things are pretty slick.
  3. Amazon is notorious for fakes and counterfeit. Not sure if it's a thing in the fishing world but it definitely is everywhere else. Their inventory system is terrible, they will use many different sources for a given product and have no real control over whether they're legit or not. I got burned on a set of Denso iridium spark plugs once. Started misfiring within a month.
  4. I'm of the opinion that all mono/flouro has a shelf life, even if it's covered. I always strip quite a bit off of my older rolls and toss it before spooling up. If it isn't glossy and new looking, I don't want it on my reels. I'm guessing that isn't your issue though since you probably have had the issues since it was new, unless the roll you bought had been sitting on the shelf for years. It's why I pretty much only use braid and switch between whatever leader suits the style of fishing I'm doing. Braid is a pain to tie and is pretty wimpy as far as abrasion resistance goes, a leader solves those problems, and it'll last forever. At most you will have to replace the ~100 feet of braid you actually fish with as it fatigues from running through the guides, but it takes a really long time. I think I've only ever used P-line once, and not for very long. If I remember right it twisted terribly and I got tired of messing with it.
  5. You can just call the office in Stockton and have them mail it to you. Can also get them at the COE campgrounds around the lake. Crabtree does for sure, Cedar Ridge, Mutton, and Hawker likely do too. I usually renew mine every year at Crabtree or Wheatland on Pomme. The Park's service pass is likely a decal or or hang tag just like the one from COE.
  6. Pretty much. Would only take a few dozen looters to empty the average Walmart of non-perishables. That is if some guys with firepower haven't banded together and claimed it as their own before anyone else can get to it.
  7. Hit the lake solo for a couple hours this afternoon and put 10 shorts in the boat, no keepers. Jigging raps 15-22ft. Crappy pic, there wasn't too much worth taking pictures of, but still a very fun time.

    EV ?

There sure isn't. Hydro or nuclear is the only feasible answer with current tech. Wind requires flat land and lots of real estate, plus nobody wants to leave near them. Solar is getting close to paying for itself, but I still don't think it's there yet in many areas without subsidies. If you're handy, you can source used panels, install them yourself, and the payoff will come a lot sooner. But not many are willing to do that.
  9. I'll add the ones from our trip. We put a hurting on them. If anyone is on the fence about booking a trip I highly recommend it. A good teacher makes all the difference. Thanks again Ed, it was a pleasure.

    EV ?

I see Teslas on highway 13 somewhat frequently. Saw a Model X towing a sizable Tracker Deep-V in Springfield once. I read that they tested the new electric F150's range while towing, and it was dismal. Like <100 miles.

    EV ?

EV's have cooling systems that aren't unlike what a normal car has, with a radiator, water pump, coolant, etc. So they will not overheat but there will be a decrease in range with adverse weather, especially in cold conditions.
  12. Would be good to know what size the little motor is. I can't imagine a small (up to 25hp) outboard needing more than 100 amps. The little AGM is not a bad choice either, you're not looking at a large weight consequence.
  13. I have a big time baby face. Could probably pass for a 16 year old if I shaved.
  14. I went last Saturday during the cold front. Water was flat out rough from the north wind and all of the wake boats running around. All I managed was a couple decent channel cats. While riding by the dam I saw a big catfish floating dead. Definitely not a flathead. Seems to be a pretty heated debate whether or not there are blues in Stockton so I'd say it was a big channel. Probably 15-20lbs. I was tempted to roll it around and get a couple pics but it was pretty ripe.
  15. I'm not even 30 and still get the occasional letter or phone call about some Medicare BS. Evidently there must be some senior citizen out there that I share names with. And don't ever put your phone number in any kind of insurance quote unless you want to get harassed daily. It's downright predatory.
  16. I see giving states free reign as only further dividing the country even more with how the current voting system is setup. I'm no history buff but I see some parallels between the situation now and the civil war. Replace slavery with women's rights and the second amendment. It has to come to a head at some point. Although it's likely out of the scope of your comment.
  17. View any lake in the country. https://webapp.navionics.com/#boating@6&key=o~q~Fb~vuO I'm just 10 minutes south of you. I haven't fished the rivers much so I'm not a huge help there. I do know the Sac is great for crappie, put in at 82 just west of Osceola and you can either run upstream or downstream, where it runs into the Osage. I spend most of my time at Stockton, usually put in at Crabtree, but fish from Master's quite a bit too. Occasionally I will run over to Pomme (put in at Wheatland). The crappie fishing at both has been great this year. Once in a great while I'll run up to Truman and put in at Fairfield, but it's a rarity and I don't know the lake that well.
  18. Decided to try the Louisiana mix for air fryers. Expensive, but not bad. If deep frying was a 10, I'd say it would be a 7-8. Pretty crunchy, definitely not as juicy but not dry.
  19. Presidents are a great reel and I have several of them. I wish I would've bought a dozen when Bass Pro had them for 29.99 on black friday a few years ago. For spinning rods, I am really partial to Berkley Lightning rods. The 6'6" medium 1 piece is my go-to for how I usually fish. It's a great do-all. Good for throwing jigs 1/16-1/4 oz, small cranks, and spoons. They used to be $40 from BPS and some Walmarts, but I see they've gone up to $50. For trolling rigs I like the Shimano FX medium casting rods, and Shakespeare ATS line counters. Pretty inexpensive setup that does the job. My favorite light action rod is a 7'2" Outlaw. Local rod company and the owner is a great guy. Everharts and I Am Outdoors in Buffalo used to carry his stuff, but the last time I saw him he mentioned inventory problems, so I'm not sure what he's able to get anymore.
  20. They're pretty close to everyone else for the things that I buy. I'm not sure how they are on electronics. You'd think the manufacturers keep the retailers pretty close to MSRP on that stuff. I love that place, swing through whenever I get a chance.
  21. I fished the 18th and yesterday. Sunday was two drum and one short walleye, yesterday I managed three keeper crappie. Been pretty tough.
  22. You really can't compare the two. Striker is their entry level series, the Echomap is mid tier. Echomap will have the quick release cradle, livescope compatibility and better connectors. I always had problems with the Striker connectors coming loose and powering off the unit. The Echomap also comes with a better transducer. I didn't know they had added quickdraw to the Striker series. There isn't much difference there then, aside from the Echomap having Navionics maps included. If you like to zoom way out on a map to scope out a spot before leaving, that isn't an option on the Striker, unless you've been in that area before. I'm like you in that I don't usually like a touch screen, but I really don't mind it. The touch buttons are really big and easy to hit, and you really don't use them much anyway. I have a non touch 93SV on the console and find myself missing the touch screen quite a bit. Everhart's likely has them all on display if you wanted to go play with them before buying.
  23. I think Garmins are the best all around. Strikers are good units but they do not have any mapping capability, just basic GPS that will save and create waypoints. That 73SV is hard to beat for the money. Humminbird has better side imaging and their Lakemaster maps kick butt.
  24. Yep they changed it. Has to be done by the highway patrol or the sheriff's office of your county. If it's a clearly factory made trailer they probably won't pass it as homemade.
  25. For states that don't title, the paperwork for the registration in the previous state, in the previous owner's name, and the bill of sale form (I think it's form 1957), filled out by the previous owner that matches the registration documents. The registration documents are key, just a bill of sale isn't enough.
