  1. Just run the prop and drag now and again. You're tough enough. And you got kids.
  2. Canned trout made into salmon like patties is pretty good. Don't much care for them any other way. Canning them is pretty easy too. I need to do a batch one of these days.
  3. As long as they're not raised in a sewage lagoon they might be ok. I've eaten them and had good ones and bad ones. The bad ones have turned me off them from now on. I've had bad catfish too. Anymore, I want to see fish before it gets cooked. And if it ain't white, it ain't right. Unless it's salmon. Or swordfish. Or mackerel. Or.....
  4. There is nothing wrong with a put and take bird operation. I know the dogs enjoyed it the most of anyone there. For that alone, well worth it. Get your knee fixed, you'll not be sorry. At least I'm not x2.
  5. Not enough man, not enough. They are the worst to try tp pick too. Give me a duck breast filet. Turkey same way. You will never hear about me doing anything with a wild turkey other than breasting it out, making strips and then quick fry. Turkey legs are for at the fair where somebody else does all the work.
  6. Breast and grill medium rare. Peking Duck is a LOT of trouble. Starting with picking the dang thing.
  7. Stay off of Taneycomo unless you got some really good heart medications.
  8. I had an 18.5 x 54 modified vee jon. Would have been better off with standard jon or a full vee hull. Modified vee doesn't have enough vee to make a difference in any kind of even moderately roughish water. But it does cut down on space in the boat. Either get a jon boat or a vee bottom boat. Depending on where/how you fish the most.
  9. They can make some amazing soup with a bunch of fish heads too, can't they? Tell the truth.
  10. Great advice. Plus you can haul enough camping gear in a 16 to actually enjoy a float trip. And a second person comfortably and safely.
  11. That's a different sort of job, I must admit.
  12. I wondered about that too. I wonder if he lost it or sold it or something.
  13. I've eaten a lot of bass over the years. I rarely do anymore. Last time was a float trip campout fish fry. The little ones eat just fine.
  14. No blood showing. Guessing that net.
  15. Heck of a way to get started!

    What's Cooking?

Spaghetti Red. With third day chili. I was not in chili mode at all until today. But now it sounds great.
  17. You don't want a 36. 42 or 48 will be much more stable. And stable = comfort and confidence.
  18. If there is any way to get you to think seriously about a 14 or even better 16 foot boat you will be much happier in the long run. And for a motor, 9.9 two stroke. Cry once.

    Cast iron

Interesting reading. Thanks. I googled Wagner cast iron cookware. I had no idea that stuff was even kind of valuable. It's been so long I don't even remember how I came by it.

    Cast iron

I think the ticket on cast iron is smooth interior and keeping them oiled. Mine all are machined. Shot blasting one that has the rough interior would be helpful I think. These are all Wagner Ware and live in the house. There's another one in the same style the next size up that's out in the shop. There are a couple of cast iron dutch ovens out there too.

    Cast iron

I'm a total philistine. I scrub my dirty cast iron cookware with dawn and a scotchbrite, dry them and coat with some vegetable oil and put them away. They seem to cook things just fine.
  22. I need to get the French press back out. They really do make excellent coffee. It will be convenient when less than a full pot is wanted, even more so now, given the kettle that Lovey bought. That thing is FAST.
  23. I'll have to find some. Best bourbon I've had lately is Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. It's good stuff.
  24. I have a love hate relationship with nanofil. Love the castability and how long it lasts. Hate tying leaders on - I use the Alberto and it works good - but I still get hung up and break off a few times and wind up having to retie. Also seem to have more trouble with the nanofil looping on the spool and creating a mess.
  25. That's a new one on me.
