  1. When I lived in St. Charles many moons ago, I ran a 16 48 jon with a 10 hp evinrude on the Meramec a lot. It beat the hell out of being stuck on the bank or sitting and watching TV. That boat was known as "The Lowtech".

I've never had a bierock, but it sure looks and sounds good.

It was probably "That Lebanese Place" We ate there once and thought everything tasted the same, like it had been seasoned with dirt. Place has great reviews. I presume from folks who like the taste of dirt.
  4. Oh baloney. You can fish nearly any Ozark stream with an outboard if you're careful and willing to do a little wading through the riffles pulling the boat behind you.

I didn't cook it but had as good a plate of huevos ranchera yesterday as I have ever had. Fresh cooked tortilla, double layered. over easy eggs done perfect and a mostly green but some red chili, no meat on that perfect pile, side of fresh refrito frijoles, arroz with some verde on them, Wonderful coffee to go along. On the patio. Pretty waitress, perfect weather.. You wish you had been there with us. Tortilleria Perches, on Sunshine in SGF.
  6. Thanks. We're spending three weeks in Colorado next July. It'll be here before I know it. Stuff like this makes me more certain of the wisdom of choosing Colorado for the destination.

    What's Cooking?

Chili. Carrot sticks and ranch dressing. Cinnamon rolls. Weird I know. But a good combination.
  8. Nice fish. Those are way fun to catch.
  9. Same here. Harris, if you're willing to give a different reel a try, I've got one I'll send you. Just don't get it wet. As long as it stays dry, it's a decent reel with a lot better drag than a Zebco 33.

Oh do tell about the apples. One of the great dishes my dear departed Grandmother made was baked apples. She halved something tart, sprinkled them with cinnamon, a bit of sugar and just a touch of flour so the juice they made thickened a bit. A real treat. If there were any left, they would go on a bowl of grape nuts with real cream for breakfast the next morning. Those were the days.

Tuna casserole with steelhead instead of tuna.
  12. Everyone has the same rights to the lake, Whether it's for setting jug lines, trot lines, trolling, tubing or skiing. It's on everyone to be safe and to share the space with other users. Not a difficult concept.
  13. He earned that name, didn't grow up with it. Seriously, someone named Jedd Jerk-O would have to have some nuts, just like someone named Bastardo - back in the 8th grade when JoeD or smalliebigs was around.
  14. Ok so would it be worse to be a Bastardo or a Gyorko (pronounced jerk -o) ? Either one would give you hard knuckles growing up in my old neighborhood?
  15. Three dump trucks is not a spare time thing. Rent a bobcat and save a heart attack.
  16. If you ever get tangled up in someone else's line, be it a jug line, trot line or someone trolling, casting or whatever - the right thing to do is cut off your line and re tie. There's the rule. Someone tell me it's wrong and why.

Persimmons get sweet after they've been frost bit. Until then uh un. First hard frost OK, but the second hard frost is more reliable. You will have to race the creatures to get them About dinner. Leftovers. Tuna free tuna casserole. Egg noodles, leftover grilled steelhead (most of one medium side) pesto alfredo, four ounces of sliced button mushrooms, two large cloves of garlic pressed, maybe an ounce of decent EVOO and some time in the oven at 350 F. And a bottle of KJ vintner reserve Chard. Cardinals v. Pirates on the box. I've had it worse.
  18. KY3 News Story KOLR10 News Story This is something I've been involved in. Glad to see things coming around. A picture is worth a thousand words. I could give you the thousand but there's really no need.
  19. Glad to hear this Al and Mary. Enjoy every bite.
  20. Congratulations Al, that's nice.

It's mail order. Catalog is in the little house out back.
  22. These the world is going to hell in a handbasket because (insert offence here) are a regular blast to read. Mostly to get me thankful that by far and away the vast majority of people I meet and interact with daily are fine with me.

    What's Cooking?

I put bitters in Margaritas. Will give it a whirl in my next gin and tonic. I'm a Beefeater's guy now, converted from Tanqueray.

    What's Cooking?

Lime over lemon would be an improvement too I should think. Is it borderline too hot? I like the ginger to bite.
