  1. I used to wear my jungle boots until they finally gave up the ghost. Now I use flats wading booties with a pair of socks. No more gravel ever. I actually have the ones from Academy that are linked to above. Perfectly happy with them.
  2. That's the right way to live. Good to hear that most people are still good people.
  3. I like the way 4 lb. fishes way better than the heavier lines, especially in current. But I do tend to go lighter on the weight of jigs.
  4. Good question. Should be 4 or 6 lb good quality mono. 4 better IMHO.
  5. That's one reason I like the kastmaster, you can throw them a mile. Lets you stay well off the school and still get to them. And when I say burn it, I crank as fast as I can.
  6. Burn a kastmaster through them. Or a jig with a white curly tail.
  7. Nothing better than a good knockdown dragout with the wife over some minor detail of the remodel. Unless it's two of them. Seriously, good luck, it really is in a heck of a spot.
  8. LED is a good move. Vault looks like a fancy bearing buddy. I keep mine full of grease and have never had a bearing problem on a boat trailer since I started using them.
  9. Some people won't ever be good fishermen. You might be one of them.
  10. It took me a long time to learn, but anymore, whenever I am with someone who I am paying for advice, I take it. Doctor, Lawyer, Guide, you name it. I wish I had started out that way, it would have saved a lot of money, frustration and heartache over the years. Sounds like it was a good day nonetheless.
  11. Nice day. Great report.
  12. I've only floated the Osage Fork once and loved it for that exact same reason. Didn't do very well fishing though, which was probably me. Also seems like there was a lot of paddling.
  13. 3 days from Rush to the next take out will not include a lot of goofing off time. Keep that in mind.
  14. Taneycomo is the closest thing to a sure thing that you will ever find.
  15. Three good fisherman in that show. Happy to have been on that same river with them. Thanks for posting that link, it makes me want to be there again soon.
  16. Hell of a day man. Good thing you posted a pic or there's a certain guy on here who would want proof of a day like that. But I've been there, done that (not with that size of fish!) and know it can be the real deal when it is on. Again, congratulations.

    Whites

We hammered them there Tuesday night. Maybe 20 or so whites and five nice hybrids 6 to 7. They were up until it was slam up dark. Last night they didn't come up, only caught three. Did get a couple of nice blues that were bumping the slot but legal, had to throw a nice 12 pounder back. No thermocline and crappie are scattered and tough. That lake is heavenly. Only saw one ski boat, everybody else was fishing and super nice. Love that Osage Bluff area.
  18. Shotgun and a light is a good idea. Put that nasty thing down!
  19. Hey Ham, I was a jarhead too and I CAN take advice, especially when it comes to catching fish. Good report, sorry you had to fight crowd and way too bad about thoughtless guide.
  20. 9.9's run a lot of Shawnee's up and down the White River just fine. So does mine.
  21. If I was wanting a boat for me, wife and a child, the starting point is a 16' x 48" semi vee john with a 9.9. Super versatile.
  22. From the Kansas Department of Parks Wildlife and Tourism website. Most streams and rivers in Kansas are privately owned. The public rivers are the Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri (shown at right). They are open to the public between the ordinary high water marks on each bank. This is the line that can be seen where high water has left debris, sand, and gravel during its ordinary annual cycle. When these rivers flow through private land, permission is needed from adjacent landowners to access the rivers as well as when picnicking, camping, portaging or engaging in any other activity on the adjacent private lands. Except where they pass through the legal limits of a government entity, the rest of our streams and rivers are privately owned, and permission is needed from the landowners to access and use the streams and adjacent lands for any purpose.
  23. Couple of tricks to help actually catch that coon. 1. I still favor canned cat food for bait, the smellier the better. Poke a couple of holes in the can and tie wire it to the back of the trap. They can't just steal it all then. 2. Set the trip lever as close to going off as you can - a real hair trigger. 3. Use a couple of landscape pins to nail the trap down.
  24. You know what really makes me mad? Gravity, that's what. It makes everything seem so heavy.
