  1. Excellent.
  2. I'd bet pickled pickerel would be something worth giving a whirl and that would deal with the bones in a very tasty way.
  3. So you're saying leave the Mad River at home but still bring the trailer, just load it with beer instead?
  4. I was around for the first Earth Day. 1 of the biggest differences is there's a lot more of us now. We've learned a lot about how to be careful with our pl.anet. For which I'm very grateful
  5. One of my niece's famous lines comes to mind: Who made you wear that hat?
  6. That made the evening better. Thanks.
  7. I'd put them under the rear seat facing forward, one on each side. Tip: Use a lighted rocker switch to control power so you don't forget and leave them on and run the battery down.
  8. I'm definitely not a denier, but I do think I'm a realist. I don't think humanity has it in them to stop burning coal, oil and natural gas until it's gone.
  9. I can cast 3 feet. I make the sausage here at the place and really only need some idea of for how many. Again, thanks, looking forward to it.
  10. I checked with the war department, and I am in. I live in Ozark and have been on the NFOTW a grand total of one time in a boat and that was a long time ago. Looking forward to learning more about that river. Tell me where I'm figuring wrong with what follows. 1. Drive over Friday night and meet up, set up and sleep. My truck has a topper set up for me to camp in and out of. 2. Get up early on Saturday, eat something and go float and fish. I'll bring my canoe as I like to solo. Watch you guys that know the river and copycat a little bit and also try to learn a little bit about how to fly fish. I'm 61 and got my first fly fishing outfit for my birthday this year. I can work a fly rod (cast) reasonably well but don't know jack about actually fishing with one. 3. Get to where we're going and eat and sleep again. 4. Go home Sunday AM. I'll bring my canoe on a 18' flatbed and can defiinitely help with the shuttle. More than happy to bring food or kick in some $$ to help out. I'm a bad assed dutch oven cook but only have one. I can do some biscuits and gravy for breakfast, ribs and beans for dinner or what have you. Let me know what to bring please. Thanks for putting this up. Best to you. Rick.
  11. Harold Ensley taught me to dip white bass in yellow mustard, then the breading and then deep fry them. Try it, you will like it I promise. Properly cleaned, they're mighty fine. Leave red meat on any freshwater fish and you are in for a nasty tasting bite.
  12. I'd like to learn more about that river and would love to make that weekend if possible. I need to check with the war department first though. Do you allow old farts? If I am able to come, I'll be soloing in my canoe but could help with shuttle if needed, I drag a flatbed and there'll be extra room on it. Also no bed space needed, I'll sleep in the bed of my truck.
  13. It has been a shame on the Christian County Commission the way they handled that whole situation. Glad to hear some sense is finally going to prevail. All we needed was some new people in the courthouse and I am very glad they are there. Next I would like to see something done with the old Riverside Inn property other than letting it grow up and having no parking signs posted all around it. What a waste.
  14. Agree. The resource could be better managed instead of being all freaky about it. Keep the same limits on the fish but let a fellow do with the eggs what you will rather than just throw the $$$ away.
  15. I went to the bar, listened to a little music and had a reuben. Does that count?
  16. They just keep getting better Chief. Those guys look like they were having good fun. Thanks for making my day better.
  17. How cool is that.
  18. Don't get that one, the extra crossmembers are going to be in the way and aren't needed. Look at Gavin's set up, it's much better.
  19. Invigorating.
  20. One more comment - have your oufitter provide you with a plastic boat not aluminum. You'll be a lot quieter and won't stick on the rocks.
  21. You may not need one but you might enjoy one. I know I do sometimes. I'm a troglodyte and only fish Ambassadeurs. 4500C on a 6' medium weight medium fast action is my river favorite. I spool it up with 8lb green Maxima. Like I said, troglodyte. I especially like the baitcaster for fishing spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. Why not give one a try and find out for yourself?
  22. Take some dry clothes with you in something that will keep them dry, just in case. What part of the Niangua? Definitely crawdad crankbaits. Also a jig under a float. In line spinnerbaits (Mepps, Roostertail, Blue Fox, etc.) will work too. I always fish a tube too, but like others have said, that's often best done standing still. Have fun. There's a group of us going out together in May, the Niangua is on the short list. The one we go to depends on if the rain we've been getting lately keeps up. If you're fishing below Bennett Spring, you can also fish for trout but I assume you know all about that.
  23. Use the medium. Nice fish.
  24. Get out of the bar and get to posting chief!
