    What's Cooking?

Right now there is a six pack of venison burgers sweating it out on the grill. For tomorrow. George Birthington's Washday on Taneycomo is a real tradition with me. Tomorrow I'll be there with my main football watching and all around buddy and his dad who is also a great friend. I'll be missing another one who I used to go with all the time. I'll probably take along some deli brown mustard and a few cans of Coors. Don't hate me because I'm pretty.
  5. You should also try the Schlafly Kolsch then. It's good beer too. Oops. Somebody beat me to it. Still good suggestions though.

    What's Cooking?

Going all out tonight. Grilling hamburger patties, fresh cut French fried potatoes and a small portion of green salad. Feels a lot like spring and I am finally feeling mostly normal after a good three weeks of the crud that would not leave. Bourbon neat to help with that mostly normal feeling.
  7. I am far from a sonar expert but really like my Lowrance that is a chirp unit. Lots of detail.
  8. I heard it was a pretty nasty day. Glad the fishing made it worthwhile.
  9. Good job.
  10. Winter time big time bass!!!! Nice, Wait. Is that a summer photo you jacked with? You have amazingly big fingers. Proud!

    What's Cooking?

    ^^ WOW!
  12. Truman is similar construction to Oroville dam. The White River dams are reinforced concrete tied into native rock with massive regular spillway capacity not to mention the emergency spillways. Not remotely likely for a similar deal here. Flooding yes. Dam failure no, barring massive earthquake or a nuclear attack with a direct hit.

    What's Cooking?

Chicken and rice soup. Four hindquarters, a couple big sprigs ot thyme and same rosemary, medium red onion, maybe 1/4 c chopped Italian parsley and probably twice that of celery tops, some salt and some Cajun seasoning and the bag of spices from a box of Uncle Bens long grain and wild rice are simmering in the stock pot right now. Will debone the chicken after it cooks for a couple of hours and add the box of rice and some carrots. Easy peasy.

    What's Cooking?

I love BBQ chicken. Not slow smoked but grilled and browned over a medium fire and then sauced with the sauce browned a little too. Got it going right now. Some potatoes browned in butter, sweet corn and a green salad to go with. Life is not what you could call difficult.
  16. Simms boots, White River waders. Best of both worlds.

    Colorado

Going to Colorado for three weeks this summer. Leaving June 28, home July 18. Travel trailer deal. We're going to Mesa Verde first for a few days, then Durango and then Gunnison, coming back by way of Colorado Springs and I-70. I'll have time to explore and fish at all of the above. Recommendations sought. Will probably do a guided trip near Durango and one near Gunnison. Experience there would be helpful too. Thanks!

    What's Cooking?

The last brisket I did I had the egg at about 200 and the whole brisket on for about 12 hours. Rubbed it a day before. After it was done, I put it in foil in a cooler overnight. Put a cup of cabernet and a cup of beef stock in the foil pocket and warmed it again on the egg because the oven was full with other things. I don't know what temp it got to but it disappeared.

    What's Cooking?

Far from grossed out. Duck ham is one of the finest things I've ever tasted. I didn't make it, got it at farmers market. Spectacular is really the only word. It looked like yours, sold in whole breasts with the skin on.
  20. Dear Girschwinn: What are your top ten fishing spots? Sincerely, Us.

    What's Cooking?

Well tonight it's the polish with kraut and apples. About an inch of kraut in an enameled Dutch. Good big shake of caraway seed mixed in the kraut. Two Braeburn apples peeled sliced and cored. Enough to make a second layer. About 1 tbsp. brown sugar crumbled over the apples. Two pounds of Johnsonville polska kielbasa in two inch chunks. Enough to make a third layer. Lid on and in the oven at 325 for an hour or so. Assume everyone knows how to make mashed potatoes. It involves peeling potatoes, boiling same, then milk, butter, salt, pepper and if you like things that taste good, some fresh garlic.
  22. I love those old barns way too much.
  23. Baptist to Cedar Grove is all I would want for one day. Used to make a three day trip out of Montauk to Cedar Grove.

    What's Cooking?

I still haven't made the polish with kraut and apples. Right now Chili is melding. It's getting late now for dinner so I am thinking huevos ranchera in the morning. Brought in four jumbo eggs from the hen house today so I thimk I might have a plan. Plan was executed. Hashbrowns instead of tortilla. Worked.
  25. My stuff came and it looks great. Thanks for a very professional act!
