  1. +1 on the Leaky Roof. I've got a couple of their growlers I need to get refilled.
  2. I blame it all on the otters.
  3. Beautiful shots, thanks for posting. We were out there last 4th of July. What a place.
  4. Only second place? Couldn't do first? (joke - that's a great day and congratulations) Especially cool that you got to do it with your brother.
  5. I hit it pretty hard Saturday on the James River with similar results. First cast was a nice goggle eye on a chart/orange spinner bait. Second cast was another and I thought it was going to be ON!. Didn't catch another fish until after 2:00 and nothing over 12 inches, maybe a half a dozen fish all day and I tried everything I know to try.
  6. It's what the regs say, not what we think makes sense or what someone who wrote the regs was thinking about at the time. If you're fishing with more than three rods, you'll be safe with labeling them. If you don't and you run across the wrong agent then you might find out what some people can be like.
  7. I figure I owe that much to society.
  8. I hated that floor. I've got bad knees and it really bothered them, plus everything on the floor got wet if there was the least bit of water in the boat. I figure it's probably less than 50 pounds of added weight. I hope I get 14 years out of mine, If I do, I'll be close to done by that time anyway. It's going to the James tomorrow and going to serve duty as it's model calls for. Grandson and one of his buddies are coming down and we're taking an overnighter. I'll haul the gear and the two of them can enjoy his new canoe.
  9. Cut the plywood to fit, painted it and screwed it to the ribs. Took all of about two hours. I do really like the boat.
  10. I bought a 2006 Shawnee Commissary Boat, (48" x 20'7") two spider chairs, two more seats with pole mounts, EZ Loader Trailer, low hour 2008 9.9 Yamaha, 58lb 12V Minnkota, hummingbird LCG,battery in good condition and three life jackets last November for $5500. Everything was in like new condition. I hated that floor with the ribs running front to rear and have since put in 1/2" CCA plywood floor with non-skid porch paint that matches the boat. Huge improvement for not much $$ ! $3800 for mid 90's hull and trailer sounds high to me too.
  11. Glad to see this report. We're doing an overnighter Hootentown to Horse Creek this weekend.
  12. If you use more than 3, you have to label them with your name and address or your conservation number. Max of 33 hooks total. You're correct about the 3 hooks on A-rig.
  13. I'm with you. Day in and day out Maxima just works best for me. Don't feel the need for anything but a Palomar knot either. My fishing life is already complicated enough.
  14. They are up at Kissee if that tells you anything.
  15. I've met him a time or two at local put in spots. Seems like a nice enough fellow.
  16. Royalex boats are now selling at a premium. Up about $400 to $500 since last year's catalogs came out. I have a very well thought of grandson graduating HS and I bought him a royalex We No Nah Prospector 16 today for $1600 with skidplates and a couple of paddles and was glad to do it. That boat will never lose any value and should last most of if not all of his life. Last year I could have got it for around $1200. Hopefully he'll remember that when it's time for me to go to the old folks home and will make everybody pick a nice one.

The guy is a fast giraffe with decent hands. The NFL will love him, pay him and the team that gets him will forgive everything if he helps to win games. Assuming he can stay out of jail. That's about the only thing the NFL won't forgive, missing games for being in the slam.
  18. I know I'm not supposed to say or even think anything like this but there is at least one otter living in that hole above Greenbridge.
  19. What Mad River boat is that? A Legend 15 maybe? Looks like you guys had a nice trip.

    Baseball!

I'll be watching two grandsons Saturday AM play baseball in Carthage. Freshman DH and Senior CF on the same HS varsity BB Team. Senior is getting a JUCO ride and his little brother is the bad one of the two. Forgive me for liking this better than the Redbirds, though I really really like them too.
  21. I'm glad there are calm well reasoned people like you in this world and on this board. Good luck with making sure Crooked Creek is open for reasonable use by the public.
  22. Buffalo or Kings should both be perfect by this weekend, absent any more significant rain.
  23. It will be a good time. Every single time I've gone to one of the outings that have arisen from one of the good fishing sites it has been a real positive learning, fun, fish catching deal, filled with people that I'm proud to have met and become friends with. I'm certain this one will be no exception. It's always (well nearly always) a good thing to be able to put a name with a face. River time builds a friendship like nothing else.
  24. Kentucky handed the Huskies that game with very poor foul shooting and the lowest scoring game they had all year. Not to take anything away from the Huskies because they did win. But honestly I thought it was a very poorly played game at both ends of the court by both teams. Too many turnovers and really poor shooting from the field. Definitely not a classic NCAA championship, at least to these eyes.
  25. Boat is going to a fine young gentleman in Willard who has three boys.
