Everyone should have a head turner very versatile rod.

I just did the numbers from my BFL career . I haven’t fished them several years. I fished 23 tournaments as a boater and averaged out to a payout of just under $500 a tournament . Not too shabby . It paid for itself plus some.

Kim City - Feb 15 - Fun Swimbait, BFL, FFS and Lack of etiquette

Last year I had a younger dude start on the same dock I was fishing . Like a stall in front of me one foggy morning at cape fair . I was like “ that’s where you’re going to start ?” He was oblivious and replied “ yeah on the other side of this dock . “ he proceeded to hit the dock with his first cast . I heckled him . “ you’re not going to catch them like that . They really like it when you hit the pontoons “ your casting is pathetic “ . He eventually just left haha . Not my finer moment but dam. -

My worst experience last year was at the dam access at Taney . Guy was fishing the first outlet yelling every time he caught a fish , and boasting as loud as he could “ that’s 97!!!!” By far the most annoying and arrogant one I had the pleasure of fishing around . Yesterday I had just an epic day on the water . The idiot really had no effect on it . I was more surprised than anything. -

Was he in an old nitro with a new motor? That dude came within 50 ft of me on a direct line . Head down trolling at like 5 mph . Then didn’t even acknowledge I existed . It was wild . I wanted to educate so bad , but I just kept my cool sat down and let that moron go on by . -
MDC says there are plenty of bass in the lake.

How many times are you fishing the lake ? I’ve seen number of big smallmouth this winter especially . It used to be pretty rare to see tournaments down here won strictly on smallmouth . Now it’s pretty common to see 5 going 17+ pounds . Thats some nice sized brownies . -
They’ve been hitting it hard the last few winters . They were at aunts creek doing the same thing . All the marked corps piles were refreshed with green cedars

Just as the title says KGB 7’11 extra heavy moderate fast swimbait rod . In great condition retails for $325 . I’ll take $200 . This rod is designed to throw the big glide baits that are popular now . It has an extra long handle to help with casting the giant baits. Pickup in Springfield area .

I can’t like this post enough !! Exactly the way a steward of the lake should be ! Thanks for caring Bill . IMO every single guide on the lake should be held to the highest standard when it comes to conservation and the law.

Don’t even get me started on multiple trips in one day .
-
Well don’t quote me on this but I believe that if me and you went fishing and we each caught a limit of fish that I could under the law give you my limit . Once they were off the water . In your freezer the possession limit is X2 your daily limit . Now if me and you were fishing and you suck and you catch 4 crappie and I catch 26 crappie and we keep them all . Then I would in-fact be over my daily possession limit . Although this is pretty much unprovable unless witnessed putting that many in the box. So my main point of contention is that the guides possesion limit is x2 his daily limit . But say 5 days last week he caught a limit for himself . That right there is over the posssion limit by 45 fish . Unless he eats 30 crappie fillets every other night . Hence the question , how many crappie can Rick Lapoint actually eat …. ?
-
It’s definitely that
-
Haha what did I say ? It’s not like I’m saying anything outlandish. He guides and keeps his limit and his clients limits of crappie every time out. It’s not anything crazy man . It’s not illegal . I just find it unethical. I figured that someone would have a little fit when calling out the honorable Lapoint. It happens every single day down there . And I’m not a guide . I just get frustrated when the guides pillage the resource for profit . Daily possession limits are a real thing ya know. I’m sure he can get on the public forum and respond . I would tag him in it if he was still a member. Whats his side of the story going to be 😂 I didn’t fillet all those crappie that I continually post pictures of being filleted ….
-
-
For sure that’s the way it is . It’s just odd when the guide has one client and they continually keep 30 fish. So is Rick telling the client to set his rod down and I’ll get my 15 ? Doubtful.
-
Just on his Facebook . Every single day he’s taking 2x limits of crappie. I understand as a guide keeping fish for your clients. But why keep your limit every single time also. Seems counter productive for being a guide.
-
The real conservation question is how many crappie can Rick Lapoint possibly eat .

Let’s go !

I don’t believe the lake is stunted . There is so much bait in this lake the spots are not the problem. In fact I think this lake is as healthy as I’ve seen it in the past 20 years. I know you all won’t believe me but I’ll put it out here . The last four outings have produced over 150 keepers . One day I had 20 fish over three pounds. And I bet if I totaled all the spots I have caught in that bunch only about 6 were non keepers. Big spotted bass for the four days was a 3lb 13 oz spot . I’ve had a smallmouth right at 5 lbs and a large mouth just shy of six lbs . Best five fish total for a single day was 22 1/2 lbs . I would guess the average spot is weighing about 2.5 lbs for a 15 inch fish . The fish are here, they are healthy and fat . I don’t really have a problem with the 15 inch limit , or the 12 inch limit . It won’t have in impact on it either way imo .

Ron and I took our first trip for 2024 to mid Bull Shoals

Man that water looks great ! May have to slide down there and do some power fishing too ! -
I have been painting pretty regularly for the past year . It’s amazing to see my style and just overall ability change with more and more time doing it . This year I’ve produced some unique colors that I really haven’t seen before . These are some of my favorites
-
It’s been an amazing January for me also . I’ve been out three times and the number of keepers has been crazy !
-
Yeah I think that’s the winter I’m remembering . Wasn’t it in March too ?
-
Yeah, I really doubt it ever has . Pretty much any ramp towards the main lake is going to be open no matter how cold it gets . Kimberling froze once that I recall and that was very very rare .
