  1. I can't say I've ever lost a fish because of the lack of a barb. Lets face it a smallie can throw a face full of barbed trebles at you so it's hard to say the lack of a barb caused a fish lost. I love the fact that i can slip the hooks out easily. I've gotten lax in my debarbing, but I need to get back to it.
  2. He stops at the James, I believe it is without looking. He does include the tributary's. It is primarily for waders who are looking for accesses.
  3. For me it's baked beans cooked under some fat dripping meat in the smoker. And cole slaw, but not on my butt.
  4. Well you either have fat fingers or you're putting them in the wrong end of the pliers.
  5. I've had my Gerbers for about 15 years now and wouldn't have any other. I also have a Leathermen, but I don't have patience to break one in. My Gerbers are a one hand operation from the pouch to the hook and have been since day one.
  6. It's not really complicated, you don't want to be obvious, obviously, so try not to be too conspicuous by a lot of unnecessary movement.. The biggest thing is that sometimes they can be picky about the picture they get so color and a reasonable silhouette is generally the key. Plastic tends to do this well. Of course it's not as simple as it sounds,, but it's a good place to start.

    Elk Report

Sounds like a good trip Ollie, were you fishing west of the highway?
  8. Smallies over trout, must be a Kansas thing!
  9. Looks like it got into your boots too.
  10. Another option is to put racks on your vehicle and find an outfitter that will rent to you. haul it to your choice of put
  11. I've always done better in 2-3 feet and overnight. I'm not sure however about the Table Rock craw and it's habits.
  12. Sounds like a great trip. I've done Trigger to 62, but nothing above where information is scarce. Sounds like a sleeper.
  13. Actually it's more a case of running out of surface area for the most part. The river is so full on weekends that the only options are drinking and swimming in a free pool without much in the way of enforcement. It's true they catch a few with glass or a cooler of beer and no empties, but for the most part it's became a party river decades ago. The DNR could have stepped in a done more to protect it, but they decided profiting from it and competing was better. The only reason the floats don't continue north is because the shuttles are a ridiculously long. They don't work with the bottom line. Much of the river is a ghost of decades ago with not near the depth it had before civilization fell in love with it.
  14. The subtle abuse that tends to go unnoticed by the younger set is the amount of gravel these things put into the holes. It's really noticeable to me in Bennett and the area above Bennett on the river.
  15. Probably go flooded out.
  16. I think a lot pof lake dwellers get confued between LOZ and the Corp lakes. They don't control anything below the flood level unless it's personal property such as a boat or a dock. A lot of the signs about a no wake zone and a protected perimeter are bogus.
  17. I don't think you would have any trouble if you stay closer to the 65 bridge. Rockaway Beach or Ozark Beach would be fine also.
  18. The bottom line is that the employee had no reason to feel that he was threatened or the property was threatened. He should be in deep you know what over it.
  19. The cats are probably spawning, or close to it aren't they?
  20. Wow, if you had stayed at it you would have had a mess of logperch.
  21. The best fishing report for Bennett is to go and observe. The majority of people C & R fishing are doing the same thing that they normally do and unless the water changes the fish don't really change. New flies and methods evolve slowly at Bennett so it's unlikely anyone will be caught short. The one thing that overrides everything is the condition of the stream, whether it is high, murky or they're cutting weeds is probably the only thing that changes the fish habits. Remember, most of the fish in the stream don't have as much time there as you do.
  22. When the smoke clears Jim will never outcast Charlie.
  23. I suspect the flood came at just the right time in the cycle to wipe out a class and the fish have gotten away from searching the gravel. When things get back to normal in the insect cycle the fish will probably follow. At one spot we stopped at Sunday there were literally thousands of fry which probably makes for an easy meal when the sun leaves the water.
  24. If a person put some thought into it there might be a way to rig with a circle. I just won't use them anymore on the flows because of the gut hooking.
