I'll go you one better, I paint my heads with rattlecans, the fish don't seem to know the difference. I prime them and follow with a flat camo paint in a greenish brown. Fish are looking at the action, not the paint job.
If you want to add guard to a jig that doesn't have one, use stainless wire. SS in .013 is soft and around .018 is stiffer. You can alter the mold with a saw blade. Buy an appropriate size saw blade from Sears, something very close in width, and groove one side of the mold where you want the guard.
