    I have used both, and for me a 12' kayak is easier to paddle upstream, but the canoe is lighter and easier to fish from. As far as going upstream it will depend on stream, even the time of year. Sometimes you have to walk it because of the current, but its rare you can't get as far up as your physical ability will allow. For small streams I like a 10' SIT and if I were to go against a lot of current a 12' SOT would probably be my first choice, but the canoe is probably the best all round in my opinion.

    Thanks, we did find them on top well into the morning on Sunday under a heavy cloud cover. They seemed to be partial to Sammy's in the light chop. Color, as reported, didn't seem to matter.

    That picture looks like 3 o'clock in the afternoon if its a recent one. The DNR should have done their job 25 years ago before they let Rogers add canoes to the park. After that they couldn't tell anyone no. It was thier job to keep the river fun for all, but they folded and failed to do their job.

    I agree, in fact I don't think you can improve much on clear Hard As Nails at $1 a bottle. There are also some neat pearl colors out their hiding in the women's aisle. You do get some funny looks though.

    The small serrated scissors for children work great if you can find them, as do the ones made for braid. I've used braid for many years and I haven't found anything, short of the small serrated scissors, that cuts it well.

    Paint spray cans. Walmart did carry three colors of flat paint in camo colors. Smallies were my target also and the finer wire seemed to work well in rivers and for Smallies. I bent the wire 90 degrees in the head and put a small end in the open end to keep it from sticking me.

    I'll go you one better, I paint my heads with rattlecans, the fish don't seem to know the difference. I prime them and follow with a flat camo paint in a greenish brown. Fish are looking at the action, not the paint job. If you want to add guard to a jig that doesn't have one, use stainless wire. SS in .013 is soft and around .018 is stiffer. You can alter the mold with a saw blade. Buy an appropriate size saw blade from Sears, something very close in width, and groove one side of the mold where you want the guard.

    I don't know about specifc blanks, but I like something that tops out at 3/16-1/4 oz, or close to it. I too like rods shorter if I can find them.

    Top water, probably a Sammy. My next choice would be a Senko just under the surface.

    You're just seeing the few that survive. The MDC has tried everything in an effort to stop illegal gigging, but closing the river, and a few others, would stop most of it.

    Very good advice. I haven't been down it in a couple of years, but the lower end fishes well and has its share of obstacles.

    I would say the the canoe renter who knows how to ferry is a rare paddler.

    I suppose we should ignore all the additives added in various ares to "Clean" the fuel.

    I lived close to the Niangua fora few years and sadly it happens. Irresponsible adults and probably an irresponsible livery. They are lucky they were able to pull 4 out, that doesn't always happen either.

    I was in Fair Grove when it blew, and the marina probably got off lucky keeping its roof.

    It would be a great place for one. You might check places in Forsyth, chamber, paper etc.

    The comments concerning drinking water really illustrate the disconnect between the brain and the mouth of some people. I wonder if the negative posters have considered where the wildlife relieves its self?
