  1. Shallow Shad Rap. The shad color has been the best for me. I know there are no gizzard shad in the upper G'nade, but the color isn't that far from the river minnows that live in the shallows. In the Fall X Raps work for me.
  2. How much can it cost for crying out loud! Surely they could run electricity for a host. These people put in charge of public lands who haven't a clue of what people will accept it aggravating at best. Why they believe a campground with nothing but water and outhouses wouldn't be acceptable simply shows how inept they are their jobs. there will obviously be people who will complain that there aren't enough amenities, but those who are satisfied won't complain and add to the discussion, DUH. Campers Point gets visitors and there is nothing there.
  3. There were a few hardy souls NoLuck, I wasn't one of them.
  4. The outfitters on the Niangua where dead in the water yesterday, money gone down the river and irretrievable.
  5. My dad loved to fish, but WWII put a crimp in his fishing with trying to get back into providing a future for his family. I pretty much taught myself through Fish and Game, Outdoor Life , etc, In a small town creeks and rivers along with some farm ponds offered lots of class room. I actually probably got a better start in terms of diversity because of this. I got a good look at many different forms.
  6. Is that after it quits raining.
  7. If you have after market racks they made extensions for them that helped it getting them on top. I don't think they make them anymore however. I use a cart that breaks down and can go in dry storage. In use it has uprights that go in the scuppers.
  8. It rained buckets last night. The river is in the trees, but not in the hay. It's a nice chocolate color. I suppose for reference it's at the road at the center gravel ramp, the one that sets a little lower.
  9. Well it would be hard for me to agree, I'm only here because of docs and improving medicine.
  10. The old Tarpon is a good one. I thi k Ham and I got ours 8 or 9 years ago and they still going. The nice thing about the SOT's is that you can throw your legs over the side and reach anything behind you. The down side is thier weight.
  11. You need some wooly buggers, brown, tan and black. Something for the top in yeller, crease, Pete, or bombers.
  12. I don't know about the arthritis, but tge sot's are essy in and out. Getting them in and out of the water is another thing though.
  13. Believe it or not the river is in great shape today, even with the rain all night. Probably couldn't fish it, what with Redbeard and a few others filling it with floaters. Hopefjlly none of them leave a mess on his picnic tables.LOL
  14. When you're imitating a natural food source color and silhouette can bo important, IMO. I do better with scuds and sowbugs right at the bottom where they should be, hence no VSI.
  15. I don't know if it was exagerated or not, but I do know he came on the river long after Maggard, Burns and the Robbin's, just name a few and they didn't sesrch people using thir canoes or vet them and neither does he. He also doesn't say for certain that he knows some of the trash isn't from his campers, some of who camp on the river.
  16. I always do better without the bobber at the dam. I grudgingly use one at Bennett, but thats to stay out of the weeds.
  17. For some reason the fish I catch inthe park are generally small also. Were you wading or paddling?
  18. I'll be in the area, but not sure when I'll fish the park
  19. What a hypocrite. Johnny come later knew, or should have known, when he bought his place and brought more people to an overcrowded river. I've seen his spiel about being different, but he just added to the problems on the river and is getting what all the others have gotten from the party they created. He attempts to make money from camping and canoeing and now he knows the downside.
  20. I think Fishslayer has a point. If they can check a boat on the river they can check it at the launch or the take out which makes more sense to me. If the idea of the law is to prevent, then checking at the start to insure locked coolers, trash bags, etc makes sense. If they're looking for empty cans in the bottom of the boat or drunks then the take out would make more sense. If you use a gun outside your home or shelter the question won't be whether you were wrong or right, but whether a jury will think you were right. I would worry that I couldn't make them feel and appreciate what I felt.
  21. ???? We have it just about everywhere so what don't we have? It's coming to power plants burning coal that are economically feasible to convert. Those that aren't will likely shut down. As far as vehicle use goes, we're in better shape there then we are with gasoline. The only real down side is conversion and the government would probably have to help there. The problem is that gasoline would go up and the refiners would fight the conversion tooth and nail.
  22. JD the best yak anchor, IMO, is a #3 barbell from Walmart. The trick is to tie a loop around the hand grip so that the rope will pull to the end. This forces the bell into the gravel. If you use floating rope you can run a loop at the bow, then using a brass snap with a swivel fasten the snap onto the rope loop and run you anchor line trough the swivel loop. If you have a problem you let the rope go and pull away fro it then paddle back to work it from the seat. Clear as mud?
  23. Yes, but it's not useless, it keeps the people distracted thinking things will only get better if we only have one party to make the rules.
  24. I hate to keep beating the drum, but NG is below 50 cents in parts of OK and about $1.70 in Springfield. Factor in that it's abundant here, gives off less CO2 and doesn't have to be refined, only needs some smell added. If that isn't enough factor in depriving the Middle East with excess money to fuel terrorism, That the jobs would probably balance out if coal takes a hit. the miners can work in the gas fields. Tell me why we're hell bent on producing electric cars that run on foreign batteries and use electricity that burns more CO2 producing coal then NG? These cars are the ultimate ostrich idea. Head in sand and ignore the pollution from the fuel that drives them. They might be a great idea if we had more nuclear produced electricity. Mans problem is that he has entered into an unnatural evolving that the earth wasn't designed for and we don't know how to bridge the gap.
  25. The sad part to me is that it's the park that is a big part of the machine. I don't worry about the outside business, although I think the river outfitters could have been regulated in how many units they could put on the river, but the push to keep the money in the park. The park is a state entity held in trust for the people, not a state run business..
