  1. Well you're right down the road from Bennett and the Niangua. I think the park bought most of the prime turkey land though.
  2. I don't know about buzzard, but there is no way to get around greasy.
  3. Wow, that is interesting. I don't know if any old timers on here remember Roaring River way back, but there was a stretch of stream that was still wild below the bridge that ran to the paddle boat lake. I don't know how long it was but those of you familiar with the old dam base can probably imagine. That stretch had the biggest population of water moccasins I've ever seen. They were thick in there.
  4. One thing I always remember is that Cottonmouths are generally found on dry land. When I lived in Laclede county we had a pond with a resident Cottonmouth. When I saw him/it, more often then not, he was in the leaves a foot or so from the bank. He was also not aggressive unless tested by my Husky. She would stalk it and eventually it would show it's displeasure by doing the classic mouth open threat.
  5. I think you should remember that there is a difference between some individuals ideas of reasonable and the law. As long as you're we within the law, the enforcement community is well aware of what it is and the "vigilante's" won't generally test the water officially. I grew up in a time when farmer Brown didn't worry too much as long he knew who and why, but now you have people from the city who find themselves owning what they once thought was a city block and they want no one setting foot on their piece of the earth.
  6. We'll have to get together oneshot and i'll show you my carp rigs. I don't eat them, but I love catching them.
  7. Watermen when I was there you had to stay in the water , but could trespass if you couldn't safely negotiate a hazard as long as you took the shortest route. Is that still the law?
  8. I have mine and just happen to be heading to Bennett for a couple of days. Do you adjust the amount of wool accordingly, I assume you don't use all of it? Is this wool uncleaned, or do I need to Gink it?
  9. You might PM Justin Spencer and Brian Sloss and see what the south running rivers are doing? The storm looks like it might be light on their watersheds. The James might be spared also.
  10. Many years ago I found one that had the lip broken off and I couldn't resist seeing what it would do. It ran the same way on top as it would have under water.
  11. Good grief! That's a full grown one for sure. I have a lot of fun around Beaver, Swan and BS with small yellow spiders working the "perch" on topwater with my 3wt. That average is probably 3 or 4" long but it's so fast it's relaxing. Once in awhile a LM in the 12" range will show up.
  12. This one has been around a long time. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/rt
  13. I don't remember any "rapids", but shoals with a reasonable amount of water over them. We were in a drift boat, but it looked like an easy run for canoes or yaks. It did seem to more suited to wading and fishing from shore using the boats for transport. We fished from the highway south of Baldwin to a public access.
  14. Of course. I just misjudged the distance from my hand to his head. I used to catch them all the time, but this one surprised me and I grabbed, he them surprised me some more by how hard he could bite.
  15. It's been many years for me, but it had a great brown population when I was there and I would think it still does. It's a lot swifter then our rivers.
  16. Lots of emails to support?
  17. I don't hurt them, but I give them a wide berth irregardless of the species. Water snakes can act aggressive and they will bite. I got a good bite from a big Pilot black snake when I was young and they have more teeth then you can count. I bled pretty well because of all the little punctures.
  18. You have no idea the pressure that is on us poor retiree's. Everyone expects you to not only catch a lot of fish. but to have all the up to date information. The pressure is almost unbearable.
  19. Well he's infected with and incurable affliction now!
  20. They do indeed run to the flow from Truman. I can tell you from my experience there is no way to know when to be there. It's a hit and miss, if you hit it's great, if not there's still generally something biting. There are just to many variables, water temperature, flow, shad movement, and the list goes on. Top water walk the dog lures, jigs with a plastic trailer and rods with a lot of reach will improve your chances.
  21. Interesting, but I'm not sure I buy erosion prevention. I don't have any alternate explanation however?

Good isn't necessarily the blueprint for success in Branson. Ambiance and location seem to go farther overall.
  23. I couldn't agree more. I'll probably try to make this one myself.
  24. They are over here at my house.
