  1. Sweet fish. I was going to go wade in the Meramec today by Eureka, but it's been a long winter and I don't feel like working too hard for em, so I'm gonna go to a lake that's some easier pickings. (Hopefully)

My daughters (7 & 2) seem to eat all the shrimp no matter how many I make. 1lb, 2lbs, 3lbs, whatever... they're all gone by the time I get to the table.

  7. Next Friday - looks like its gonna be about 65 and sunny. Got some new waders, gonna go stand in the Meramec near Eureka for a bit, really let my sadistic tendencies loose and hopefully hook into some baby smallmouth (not good enough to catch the adults), scare the crap out of them, and let them go back to a life living in fear of eating the next crawfish. I might even take a picture of all the carnage. No flash though - don't want to be too cruel. Anyone with me?
  8. Drop to $300
  9. OAF was linked to in the Bass Blaster today when he mentioned the Don Iovino Crank. Pretty Cool! Hopefully you get some bonus traffic Phil.
  10. Beauts!
  11. I have an older 6HP Johnson outboard motor for sale. I started the motor last year, haven't used it since. The motor needs a new water pump assembly and the pinion that spins the starter rope is loose. Located in St. Louis Have a clear title for the motor. $150 OBO
  12. I have the title for it as well.
  13. I have a 12ft. Portabote for sale in the Saint Louis area. Currently listed on craigslist for $350. I've had the boat for a few years. Taken it on trips to the river, small lakes around StL, and even a salt water trip in Destin. There is a small leak somewhere on the transom, just haven't taken time to find/patch it since the water coming in wasn't all that much. From what I've read on portabote forums on yahoo, it seems like there are ways to patch the plastic material. The boat folds up to about the size of a surfboard. Has the older version solid wood seats and transom support, not the new plastic ones. http://stlouis.craigslist.org/boa/5439421403.html
  14. I agree too much orange on the zman stuff. These look great Mitch.
  15. I'm a big Daiwa fan. Like the Tatula series alot. I've owned all 3 in the Tatula series - the baitcasting reels, rods, and spinning rods. The baitcasting rods and reels are great. I use the 7'1 ML for most of my cranking. It can really sling some smaller sized crank baits well which I like. The reels are very smooth and powerful for the price point. I would avoid the spinning rods however, at least the 6'11" medium lt. They have a very very slender tip and mine splintered after very minimal use. Took pretty good care of it, and a lot of the reviews I read afterwards mentioned the same breakage.
  16. Oh no!!!! I'm crushed... All my fame and glory lost! That's a big ole shad.
  17. U Mad Bro? Jesus, all i was saying is that maybe human produced CO2 isn't the only variable affecting global climate. Possible variables affecting global climate: 1. Sun 2. Natural CO2 3. Inflammatory comments from OAF posters? 4. Ned RIgs?
  18. Not speaking for anyone but myself, but there are many more variables at play than CO2. My question is with the amount of emphasis put on CO2. I'm not denying CO2 warms the planet. I am however questioning the validity of model that forecasts long range temperature trends when it couldn't get the past 10 year period correct.

Some of those little stands are the best. I took a service trip to Honduras several years back. They had this little cart stand in town that sold these bean and cheese quesadillas for like a nickel in their currency. When converting to US currency it was like 1/2 a penny to get two of them. I ending up buying some every time i walked past from there on out.

    What's Cooking?

This weekend I tried clearing out some of the contents of the freezer and seeing what I could come up with. The most promising ingredient I found were the left over bones from the standing rib roast on Christmas Eve. There was still penty of meat on the bones, so I decided to make a big batch of Beef and Barley soup. Took the thawed beef bones and seared them for a minute in a Dutch Oven. Added a little olive oil and sauteed onions, carrots, and celery with some garlic until softened. Deglazed the pan with 2 boxes Beef Stock. Added back the beef bones, 3 bay leaves, some thyme, salt, pepper, and some Lea & Perrins, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. After about two hours - I cooked the barley (1 c.) separately - rinsed, drained, and added to the soup along with diced potatoes. I also removed the bones and pulled the meat off at this step and put back in the soup. I let it cook for about another hour. Skim the excess fat off the top as it cooks. Was a hit. Wife and the 2 Girls all ate it up. (usually one out of group has an issue with dinner it seems most nights) You know its good when the dinner table is quiet!
  22. Special Regulations only apply to the trophy area. See link for more detail. http://www.ozarkanglers.com/lake-taneycomo/regulations/ Special Regulations for Lake Taneycomo Effective March 1, 1997 “Trophy Area” Area Affected: From Table Rock Dam down to the mouth of Fall Creek, approximately 3 ½ miles. Bait Restriction Artificial Only: You MAY use feather or hair jigs, spinners, spoons, hard-plastic crank baits and flies. You MAY NOT use live bait- minnows, night crawlers, wax worms, sculpin, crickets, shad – plastic baits- tube jigs, Sluggos, Bass Assassins, Power Bait, plastic worms, plastic eggs– or prepared baits- Power Bait, dough baits, corn marshmallows, cheese; any other bait that can and will absorb scents. Anything that is soft or smells is illegal to use above the mouth of Fall Creek. Length Restriction Slot Limit On Rainbows: Rainbows caught above the mouth of Fall Creek measuring 12 inches or greater, and smaller than 20 inches must be released back into the water immediately and unharmed. This is commonly called a slot limit because those rainbows measuring from 12 to 20 inches are protected. The limit on brown trout remains the same lake wide (20-inch limit). Issues To Be Aware Of Possession And Proper Way To Measure A Trout: You must NOT be in possession of a rainbow within the release slot limit (12- to 20-inches) while you’re in the restricted area. Don’t take rainbows between 12 and 20 inches, caught below the area, above Fall Creek or you’ll be in violation. You must NOT drag any rainbows from above Fall Creek past Fall Creek and out of the area just so you can keep them. If you hook a rainbow between 12 and 20 inches above Fall Creek, drift below Fall Creek and then boat the rainbow, you can legally keep it, if the distance you drifted is reasonable. Possession doesn’t come until the rainbow is inside the boat. This situation can and will be judged by the agent. If the agent believes the intent of the fisherman is to prolong the fight so he can keep the trout, the agent could write a ticket. Intent is the key word. Legal And Proper Way To Measure A Trout: Close the mouth and measure from the tip of the lip. Pinch the tail and measure to the tips. Live Bait In The Restricted Area: Live bait can be carried in the boat above Fall Creek but make sure it does find it’s way on a hook.

    What's Cooking?

I'm pretty basic when it comes to my Grilled Cheese. Just give me some good sourdough bread and some white american cheese and I'm happy. I think the key to a great grilled cheese is really low heat in a cast iron skillet so it doesn't burn and gets a really get a good crunchy texture on the outside and gooey on the inside. Cheesewise I like all kinds of cheese. Gruyere is a great baking cheese (Egg Casserole - day old bread torn in chunks, cover with beaten egg/cream mixture, gruyere, leeks, and pancetta and bake) Chevre (Deep Fried with Honey) Manchego, Mont d’Or, Vermont White Cheddar are some of my favorite with a good loaf of bread, glass of wine and some cured meats.
